NO WAYYY, now try it with adapted lenses. This has a HUGE pontential, imagine this being integrated with their XLR handle it would be a single powerful package and if it works with adapted lenses, they could create an AMAZING Cinema Camera. That and built in ND’s and it’s game over for everyone else.
You are the first person I've seen turning the camera to aim over your shoulder to the subject while using a Gimbal. That's how I do it. You won't trip over anything walking backwards... much better. Great vid.
Why have I never thought of this. Great idea. Visibility plus it's so much easier to walk straight ahead then backwards
I've done shots walking down stairs and long takes doing this. Work smarter not harder.@@ywmedia
Thank you! 🙏🏻🎥
Even i have done the same thing with running shots
Lumix is the FUTURE with this move
I would love if DJI launch mirrorless full frame cameras and lenses with the L mount 😍😍😍😍
When you were on the 24mm 1.8 moving back and forth to show the autofocus, the focus breathing was nearly non-existent Lumix primes are get video lenses!🔥🔥
Very interesting video and useful tests, thanks Sam!
Thanks Gordon! 🙏🏻🎥
@@SamHolland does DJI do the same product for different brands, like say Sony?
me✍keeping ✍ up with your✍10 second explination ✍ you nailed it!
This is such a nice implementation of LiDAR! It’s great to see that they’re now communicating directly with the camera itself. The next logical step would be to make the LiDAR range finder work without the gimbal, and then no LiDAR range finder at all 🤣
Yes they really need to get rid of the gimbal requirement. If they release a standalone rangefinder/follow focus unit it would be great.
you don't need the gimbal at all for using the lidar! It's expensive but with the DJI LiDAR Range Finder (RS) to DJI Transmission Cable Hub connected to the DJI Transmission and the DJI High-Bright Monitor you can setup lens calibration and more without gimbal! If you buy the ronin 4D grip on the monitor you can focus on the DJI RS Focus Motor and see on the screen a deph map where are actors! So wireless transmision, manual focusing with range meter for +3000$ without buying the gimbal
yeah, it would be amazing to not need the gimbal, im just imagining something like a bs1h with a full rig, that you can just add the lidar piece to for good autofocus
They need to have lidar in the lens/ captor.
For someone who has the original S5, I think this is a great alternative to buying a whole new camera. However at £499 for just the lidar itself, I wish it was a bit cheaper.
Pd movie has released a lidar focus system. The more companies get into it and the tech advances, the cheaper it'll get for us!
And this thing on top of the camera is not very practical.
Now that is Tickety Boo .... great Collab between the two monsters and also the best video I have watched this week 😁😁
Seems like it’s been nicely integrated. Definitely a sign of greater things to come.
it's very inspirational video, thanks!
This is amazing for people with older Lumix cameras who don't want to upgrade just yet!
Panasonic has its own PDAF now, so I doubt they'll go crazy on DJI integration on newer cameras BUT, I think Blackmagic could greatly benefit by integrating this into their Pocket line of cameras.
The active tracking is Incredible
Did you used it? i did i doest work... and an other one that as been fool and think that is work
Being able to use Active Track without the Raven Eye thingy is awesome. I really hope DJI will bring this to other camera systems. I do agree that there needs to be tap to focus for the LiDAR system. The screen on the RS3 Pro is too damn small to accurately draw a focus box around the area you want to focus on. DJI, please bring tap focus!!
This is very cool 😎
This is huge!!!
Yayy, my s5s are going to love it!
What? This is amazing!
I hope this work on GH6 and older mft, also without the gimbal.
It works on Gh6 now!
Uhh! This looks very good 😁😁
Thanks for the rundown on internal active track. Might be sweet with Middlethings APC-R
For me, this technology allows me to achieve autofocus with my cinema lenses, which is great. I would love to know how it works when there is more than one person in the frame or when it comes to objects. Great video as always.
That's wicked! I still haven't pulled the trigger on the s5iix so still using my Lumix G9 - would it work on that one?
Two companies I love!
Don't love companies
@@whatwelearned well if they did something wrong I wouldn't support that. In general though I love their products and innovation.
Im an S1H user and THIS IS A GODSEND!!
I genuinely love how you give massive amount of info in one go in the beginning.😂
Love It
Great video!
Another great video! You answered my “so what?!” Question 😂😂
Request: as a new S5ii owner I would love to see a video of the best monitor option for the camera, high tier, midrange and budget. There are so many options and I know portkeys give some camera control
It's nice but I'm pretty sure their next camera will have the DJI lidar build in so you keep your minimum focus distance and it will probably work even better.
Does this work with the Lumix GH6 or is it limited to the full frame models?
i want this in black magic
I REALLY hope that they role this out with Canon. This would be amazing. Canon's autofocus is great but in low-light situations, Lidar will made a big difference. I'd love this!
The AF is great news for older Lumix users. i cant see why the tracking wouldnt get better very quickly with firmware updates. At the moment im using a Hohem MT2 gimbal and the AI module for the tracking is actually really good. To make it even better you can use hand gestures to start and stop tracking or recording (phone or gopro). You can also reframe yourself with a gesture. you can also track any objects in frame too. So there is definitely room for improvement in a short timeframe i feel, especially if others have already got those features built in.
i do agree with upgrading to a S5 II being a better option than having to possibly invest in a lidar range finder and rs3 pro if, like me, you have the base rs3 or no gimbal at all
I have the DJI RS2 the raven eye and the Panasonic GH5. I ended up going Canon from my next upgrade. Missing out on some really cool features now
I could be interested by this system if it's compatible with the GH6 in 4k/120 and 2k/240, with all m43 AF lenses ( even old lumix and olympus) and even with speedbooster/ sigma 18-35.
Amazing !!!
Do we need the gimbal or the LiDAR attached to the camera is enough ?
Does it work with sigma and Leica L mount lenses too or only the pana lenses ?
Thanks for your very good work
Hahahahaha you killed me with that first 1 breath line hahaha great vid bro!
Since they are in the L-mount Alliance, technology sharing is possible since the source code is joined between parties. Hope Leica dips in to this sauce. Plus anamorphic lenses with autofocus, since Lumix supports multiple stretch factors.
So...first off...Thank you for making this video! This is a huge game changer. Second, I have the exact same setup(S1H,RS3 Pro and Lidar range finder). Can you explain what you did do to get this setup to work without a focus motor?
that one breath take was pretty impressive
Very very Jim Carey of you with that explanation. LOVE IT.
Hey ! Amazing video. Just to be sure, you are testing a pre-release beta version of what's coming soon on Panasonic cameras ?
Also, Is the gimbal still mandatory for this setup to work ? Cause I'd love to see lidar system that works without the need of a gimbal.
Love from France
Awesome vid. Any way you can do a tutorial on how to use active track? No one seems to know how to use it without raven eye :(
Incorporating the Lidar sensor into the cameras would be game changing. We would get toptier autofocus with ANY lens
This is such a good partnership. We NEED more brands like Panasonic and DJI in the filmmaking and photography realm, or, Panasonic and DJI are all we need.... 🤔 food for thought 💭
Great vid as usual Sam, look forward to your vids as an OG Lumix user myself.
Does this work only with native L-mount lenses or will LiDAR work with EF lenses and the Sigma adaptor?
Lidar should be standard in future cameras.
Great explanation, unfortunately the official marketing dances around some specifics. I have an old S1 with L Mount AF Lenses. If my camera becomes supported, can I simply purchase the LIDAR Unit without the gimbal for this to assist in Autofocus with L Mount AF Lenses?
sony, if you're seeing this, we need a system like this, whether it be the lidar tracker, or even better, outputting autofocus commands to a external follow focus system! (can command a wireless focus motor (or wired) to focus closer or further.)
Great for filming the next Batman 👀
How did you do the focus test without busting out laughing? Kudos, I would've had a hard time finishing the test. Great video!
This is Game Changing! Hope this works with GH6..
Wow
Please how did you plug the wires to the Panasonic camera. I just bought the LiDAR but don’t know how to connect it to work.
One question, does the dial on the front of the Ronin RS3 Pro work as a focus pull on the S5II or S5II-X without the need to install the focus wheel assembly? I have not been able to get a clear answer on this from anywhere, but this video is the closest thing as we now know that Lidar can do it.
3:01 Hohem MT2 can track you for less than just the lidar part of that setup. It doesn't do the camera focus but it can follow you everywhere no problem... and Yes I test the feature of that on this very channel.
You could’ve also mentioned LiDar autofocus on 1080p 60 full frame. Since even the s5 ii changes back to contrast based autofocus. Huge plus for event videographers. Also how did you get this update? Is already and just working with the s1h and s5ii?
wait, seriously? The s5ii uses contrast based autofocus !?! I Thought it was phase detect....
Dang. This could make the AF on my S5 usable without having to upgrade to the S5ii... 😂
Looks great for the S1H , but I use canon/sigma with the sigma adapter ...will this work with that setup
I might have missed it but is this only compatible with specific lumix lenses, or does it work with any AF lens (sigma lenses specifically)?
I have the lumix s5 (1) and the dji ronin gimbal. So to make this work I just have to buy the DJI LiDAR Range Finder? Or do I need to buy another gimbal with DJI LiDAR Range Finder? Thanks!
Forgive me if I missed this part, but does it work without the gimbal yet?
Lumix, Sony, Pentax, Nikon, Fujifilm, Canon, Olympus, and Ricoh are all well-established Japanese manufacturers.
Is all the required firmware available to the general public at this point or is it still in beta?
can you use the lidar without dji gimbal (handheld), or use it with other brand's gimbal?
What about the OG Lumix S5? Lidar would be a wonderful replacement for the CDAF Depth from Defocus pulsing in video.
When you say using autofocus lenses, is that limited to only Panasonic branded lenses? I have a few of the Sigma lenses, with electronic connections and autofocus
Hey Sam, thanks for the video and the Shawn joke lol! Just a question, do you know if the lidar works with another gimbal? I have the DJI Ronin S, do you think I should just get the Lidar? Thanks
Would the Range Finder on a Lumix S5 (not II or IIX), work better than the auto-focusing of this camera. Naturally, setting either body or lens to manual-focus first?
Some cages have mounts to the side or diagonal. Would that effect the LiDAR? I want to use with a flash
that was a hard 10 sec 🤣🤣🤣 almost ran out of air just looking at you 😛
It would be nice if Panasonic could get some updates to the gh5s (and others maybe) when connecting to the rs 3 and the ninja v+. Once connected to the ninja, I have no internal camera control. No iso, no wb, and can’t even use the focus wheel.
Still rocking with the GH5
I want to buy this to work with my s5 but not sure which components I need. I have a ronin sc.
Just putting this out there, S1H ii with built in ND's, IBIS and PDAF, take my money Lumix...
SAME!!!
Any chance it's coming to the s5 mark I? 🙏😭
Well, lidar inside iphone is so tiny in size .. so Panasonic and DJI can actually integrate pretty advanced lidar system inside the camera body. Damn exciting days ahead
LIDAR FOV is fixed, so with different FOV lenses will function differently (can't upscale a FOV wider then the hardware FOV) for WA lenses
Great videos on your channel! I currently use a GH5s with 12-35 but am considering upgrading, would you say S5ii or S1H is a better bet?
Hey. Thank you 🙏🏻 S5ii 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻🎥
Does it work with Canon EF lenses with the MC-21 Sigma adapter?
a LIDAR integrated in a future S5 III would be fantastic! But for now, having the S5, I would rather buy the S5II intead of this AND the gimbal.
So, to use the lidar, you still need to use the gimbal?
0:47 won a subscriber 😂
Firmware for GH6 and GH5-II for Lidar RS on autofocus lenses dropped today.
I am not sure I understand the technology. Would this work with m4/3 cameras like the GH5 and GH6? Love these two cameras, but without quality autofocus they just gather dust for many of us.
It could be coming but I’m not sure. DJI and Lumix are the people to ask 😉
Thanks Sam. I wasn't sure if it worked on all cameras or not. Sounds like it is dedicated to specific cameras at the moment. Thanks again for getting back to me on this. @@SamHolland
Hello, I Have a problem with Lumix S5ii. It has a terrible preamps and when I connect any device with TRS cable I hear noises(mostly in left chanel), and I can hear internal mic when external is connected(rub it in quiet room wearing headphones) Is that just my copie problem or common?
Dude we want to see if it works on the GH6
ok but is possible to use lidar without the DJI RS3?
waouh. just got the rs3 for my s5. does this work on normal rs3?
Would this work with one of those cheap vintage Helios lenses or Voigtlander 25mm f/0.95 Nokto? for GH6? Love these lenses but I take a lot of self portraits and would love some autofocus
Hi. You can use the LiDAR with those lenses but you’d have to attach the focus motor. Only the Lumix lenses communicate with the DJI electronically 🎥 I hope that makes sense
Does the active track only work on rs3 will it work on older rs2?
Will this work with GH6?
Which Lumix cameras are compatible with it?
I need this in opposite direction 😂 use the focus detect from camera and send it to the motor
Could anybody explain how i get this to work? S1H+RS3pro+Lidar here.
When I plug in everything the c1 on the lidar module is blinking red.
What about really long lenses? I understand that on short distances it could work fine, but what about if object is really far away? I dont thing that lidar will be usable then.
I think they need to improve the reach of the lidar beam to 10 meter. Usually past this distance infinity focus makes everything in focus even with wide aperture
I have an s1-H I'll get a lidar for it, I also have a s5MKii-X
would be great to have a cableless setup without the gimbal, basically just the lidar communicating through the hot shoe and controlling the lens.
