- My goal was to see whether the DJI LiDAR Autofocus is a worthwhile upgrade to give you usable autofocus on the Panasonic GH6? In this video, I test and set up the autofocus system with the GH6 and the Ronin RS3 Pro. I show some test footage and share my verdict on whether I would continue to use this setup!

if you use L mount lenses then there is a setup where you don't need the motors at all instead the lidar communicate with the camera thru the gimbal and use lens internal focus motor
Please do a video with the rs4 pro, gh6, leica 12-35 or 12-60 and new lidar. Thank you
Lidar keeps you in focus even if the scene is pitch black. Great for low light or night shooting.
Oh that's a really great benefit to point out, thank you!
it will be nice if the lidar system can communicate with panasonic software, so it can give instructions or feedback to the camera when we are using the lens with internal non linear motorized autofocus
It can with the latest update / partnership with DJI & LUMIX
can I automatically zoom and focus at the same time with 2 motors?
You had a monitor set up on one of the clips via the hdmi, do you get the screen for the Lidar on this swell?
Take a camera (GH5/ GH6) with one of the best IBIS+OIS, and learn basic manual focus techniques, and you should be golden…
Cost effective plus learned a usable practical skill…
🤔
Thanks for the video. Can you adjust the sensitivity of the Active track, so the camera doesn't move with SMALL movements by the subject? Meaning, can it be set so that the subject has to mover further before active track starts to move the camera?
no
Does the gimbal power/charge the gh6 battery when connected?
which gimbal is needed to use this Lindar? which one is the one in this video? Thank you
DJI RS3, save your money for the new SR4 and the new Lidar that is way better than this.
So basically, it doesn’t work with the sigma 18 to 35? I was considering getting the LiDAR focus for that set up but now I don’t know what to do.
Yes, my understanding is that you need lenses with hard stops for the LiDAR calibration. I found this on the DJI forum where a few people have some hacks to get around this limitation, but I haven't tried any of these yet, and not sure how well they would work, but thought I'd share anyway: forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=235065
It's slow, wobbly, and soft at distance, close up it seems okay but the wobbling in track is terrible.
You don’t have to take all those steps to used the LiDAR using the GH6 autofocus lens ruclips.net/video/AXg5o9FJvsQ/видео.htmlsi=LPBfWCJjFruN8mdK
Seems like a lot of hassle just to be in focus.
That's a good point to add! I wouldn't recommend this setup _just_ to get better focus on your camera. But if using the RS3 Pro is already part of your setup, then adding the LiDAR focus could be worthwhile for you.
Yes, it DOES look like a hassle. But... if you shoot with Panasonic cameras with contrast-detect AF only (or shoot with manual focus lenses), it's either this or pull focus manually (or, buy a Sony camera).
