Hit that SUBSCRIBE button and watch another Barnacules Nerdgasm video right after this one! 🍿 I've discovered where the majority of the squeaking, popping and clicking noise is coming from on DX Racer, GT Omega & AK Racing gas piston gaming seats including all office chairs that use a piston to move up and down. Turns out the bearings and race just wear out and lose their lubrication and this simple video will show you how to restore your chair to perfect quiet operation in just a few minutes.

    ▼ Questions & Answers ▼
    Q) Will this work on any chair making popping and clicking noises?
    A) Yes, if the chair has a gas operated piston-like 99% of all office chairs on planet earth have this method will work.
    Q) I opened mine up and the internals were completely disintegrated, what now?
    A) You can order a rebuild kit for them or you can just slather up what is left with lithium grease and it might not last as long but it still will quiet the chair down.

    OMG I FIXED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I needed to take out the entire PISTON. I dismantled like you said but it still made HORRRIBLE cracking noise. So I took it all apart again.. but this time forced with my hand to move the piston and CRACK noise instantly... so I figured it has to be the piston connecting the chairs mount and that it has no lubricant, dried up.. so I used a hammer to hammer on the mount and pull with the other hand on the piston and got it out, lubricated the base of the piston and the inside part of the mount AND WHOILA!!! WORKS!!
Something to take note for everybody still having issues :)

Aggrobiscuit just clean the grease, pull and hit it hard 😂 srsly had to hit it pretty hard. You can try yanking when pulling aswell. Imo best if you can find some person to hammer and you pull or vice versa

For 2 years my crappy chair had this problem, and I never thought there was such a simple way of fixing it. THANK YOU!! And this is coming from someone who's room/set up is directly above their parents bedroom. Just an FYI for other people looking to do this too: Be aware that if you don't use thick (high tack) grease, this might actually make your chair worse! In my case I had to add a second rubber dampener in conjunction with silicone.

  • @NewtypeXIV
    @NewtypeXIV 2 года назад +5

I just did this and it worked! No more cracking/popping sounds! The pieces on my chair didn't go in the same order though, so make sure you take pictures/film while you're removing the pieces so you know how to put it all back together later.

This actually works! I had taken my chair apart several times and thought I was lubing the right things but it just kept on clicking. I even hit it with a rubber mallet a few times to no avail. My parts were not worn at all but after I cleaned everything with WD40 and then slathered the bearing and washers with a heavy bearing grease it fixed the problem. Thank you.

  • @rinktums

Very nicely done. My new (to me) Aeron had that infuriating click/pop sound I thought came from the seat support mechanism. I followed your steps, and found the bearing and washers messy, but not badly worn, so figured that wasn't my problem. I cleaned everything, lubed with lithium grease and reassembled. Fixed! Took 10 minutes including running out to the workbench to get things to work with. Thanks!

Unfortunately they obviously stopped making it and for the life of me I couldn't find another I liked. Thanks to this video, I figured out that the rubber bumper and the ball bearing were completely busted. Opened the bottom up like you did and found lots of small pieces and the metal washers had grooves in them. Cleaned everything and reassembled the washers upside down. Thank you very much, I got a gaming chair 2 months ago and I started hearing the popping noice and was very worried about if I had broken the chair, but thank you for showing how to fix it. 🤩

Also works with Maxnomic chairs. They have plastic bushings instead of the ball bearing but the fix still works. Additionally I turned one of the worn out washers around, which got rid of the wobble.

great video, first time know that this issue is caused by the bottom bearing. I had the same problem with Corsair T1 gaming chair(bought 2 T1 chair, one is ok, the other has the exact same issue). BTW, Corsair T1 chair's BACK MOUNT COVER never fits on the back(just hanging there loosely), so if you have OCD or cannot bear that , don't buy this chair.

That's excellent! Also if you don't want the whole can/tube, you can get a small packet of lithium grease from an auto store for like $1.00, and just toss the last bit when done.

I did this and it greatly reduced the noises, but the rubberring was broken so im probably gonna get a replacement for that in the future. It didnt work at first but i just opened it up again and applied more grease. I didnt have the white lithium grease but used one that was "oil"colored.
Great video, helped me out a ton

Make sure to tighten every screw before everything else. Might just be a loose screw causing the squeak.

My set up was completely opposite of yours. The rubber piece went back first, then the bearing, then the metal washer. Mine would make more sense as it would stress out the rubber piece less. That would explain why his rubber was disintegrating so badly.

Crazy how these companies sell a premium chair and cheap out on things like these thrust bearings. only having a washer on one side I suspect is the cause of the issues. put a washer on either side of the thrust bearing and it won't break like Jay's did.. the carrier is never supposed to receive enough pressure to break it.. I fixed mine a while back with parts from an old chair.. new bearing from that chair and two washers plus the rubber bushing (which is supposed to be a 'bumper'..
You didn't bust out the Batknife to remove the clip... :)

You hit a pet peeve of mine. High quality chair, cheap box store chair hidden parts. Similar, "ball bearing" cpu fans... that still use a rubber o-ring as a thrust washer.

JERRY YOU LITERALLY JUST MADE MY DAY!!!
do you know how many people will use wd40 for greasing things? despite the fact that the wd40 is actually not a lubricant and contains metal particulates which can cause damage to things that require oil. also wd40 doesnt last very long.

Original application: Keeping missiles from corroding in their silos.

    • @bmxriderforlife1234
      @bmxriderforlife1234 7 лет назад

yes. because it displaces water. hence water displacement 40 or wd 40 for short. however as i said its not actually a lubricant. its a rust inhibitor and remover. also it wasnt just for keeping them in the silos, one of the parts of the original missles had an issue with the part being rather thin and flimsy to the point of having to be stored filled or inflated with some sort of gas to prevent it from collapsing in on itself. the wd40 was used to prevent corrosion from happening and eating holes inside the part. pretty sure it was like an oil or fuel tank or something.

Hey Nerdgasm, thanks for the video! My chair was getting ultra loud. It was insane. It would scare people if I spun myself in the chair, POW-POW-POW!! Office drive-by!
It's my desk chair at work in an office with other people....
So, I watched your video Friday, and today I brought in red lithium bearing grease and some other tools with me into work.
I didn't even clean the bearings b/c they weren't goopy(?). They were actually just bone dry. And there was no apparent damage.
I applied the red grease to everything down there, put it back together. Btw yes, that clip does come off very easily lol.
And now, there's no noise at all. Completely silent. I still squint my eyes when I lean back in it, waiting for the pop. Feels like a different (or new) chair now.
Big thanks again for this video. Liked and sub'd.
