Captain Pikachu's known moves are Thunder Punch, Double Team, and Volt Tackle. But wonder what his fourth move might be? Well, whatever it is I hope maybe it could be Tera Blast. You know in case any of the members of the Rising Volt Tacklers get Terastal Phenomenon for their Pokemon.
My head canon for the moment is that his last move is fly. There was the flying-tera Pikachu before SV released and he is the captain of an airship. Makes sense to me. Or it’s going to be thunderbolt. Time will tell.
Captain Pikachu might be a badass or might be more than Ash’s Pikachu but let us not forget the impact that Ash’s Pikachu showed that made Pikachus that looked like only a cute pokemon a total badass for 26 years with their amazing battles. And Happy birthday too!

I'm glad Liko & Roy's battle prowess are starting to get slightly better bit by bit; albeit it would've been slightly better if either had learned a different typed move, that way at least they could do some form of damage if they fight Amethio again; as the Ghost/Fire Ceruledge against Sprigatito & Fuecoco won't be threatened by the two with their new revealed Normal-type moves.
As the first training episode of "Pokemon Horizons", this was pretty good. I like that Liko's Sprigatito learned Quick Attack after training with Captain Pikachu and that Nidothing is revealed to be a new character called Dot. I'm giving this episode an 8/10. Happy Birthday!🥳🎉🎂🎁🎈
Agreed this episode was amazing. It also exceeded expectations bc people were expecting it to be a "fillerish" episode to pad out time till they arrive in Paldea, but to our surprise every detail and event in this episode mattered. The writers could have gotten away with a random filler, but no they made it meaningful. And Happy Birthday, go get drunk. lol

As others have sometimes pointed out, Friede and Cap seem like an adult version Ash and Pikachu. However, because Ash is meant to be "forever 10," they took the concept of how Ash would be as an adult and made a new character out of it.
Having been here since the X Y days I am so glad to see your passion for Pokémon return. While I can say I ended up liking Sun and Moon significantly more than you did (I still view XY as the best series no question). I too hated Journeys for so many similar reasons and really saw my interest in the entirety of Pokémon wain over the 3 years but with this new anime and how much of an improvement Scarlet and Violet are along with the legends games I can say my love for the series has been reinvigorated. I feel that same energy with you too.
I watched this episode and I really enjoyed it! I enjoyed seeing Liko and Ray Actually training their Pokémon like real Pokémon Trainers. I getting more Satisfaction for these two in Pokémon Horizons. Unlike another Pokémon Trainer that just catches Pokémon and never felt like a Real Pokémon Trainer, but that’s all in the past. As for Captain Pikachu, he is a awesome and strong Pokémon. I enjoyed this training story and I’m looking forward to seeing more episodes in this Pokémon series!
Ash pikachu is Ash in pokemon. They both Grow together as strong. Captain pikachu is cool. Problem is we might lose interest while story moves. As they are just side characters for a season.
I love the way you keep dissing Journeys and compares away with HZ in terms of production health. I've seen enough of it and I think you can diss it more and more about Journeys because I am very dissatisfied witn it And Horizons seems gets back to the track where it should be. Training session executed very well despite these two begin with rough start (inexperienced combat issues, etc) And, happy birthday Long! But in regret, I think I will leave Amourshipping and instead I will keep root on Serena (and her Delphox?) and Liko (I love these two cuties tbh aaaaaaa)
Call me Crazy, but I think that Professor Friede might be Ash's father. They both have a Pikachu and a Charizard. Also, Captain Pikachu NEEDS to be a distribution for SV games in my opinion. We haven't had a Hat Pikachu in a while since SwSh.
What Ash's Father has Black Hair which was confirmed in a past little preview of Ash's Father which we couldn't see his face which was since in the Pokémon Diamond & Pearl Series! Excuse me but Pikachu is actually a mixture of both a Mouse and Bunny which is why Ash didn't get Scorbunny! Greninja and Inteleon are too similar which is why Ash didn't get Sobble and Gookey is too similar to Chimchar which is why Ash didn't get Gookey besides the other reason why Ash didn't get any of the Galar Region Starter Pokemon is mostly because of Leon having all Three of the Galar Region Starter Pokemon being on his Team! Ash defeated Leon's World Champion Team which makes me think that Leon's Galar Region Champion Team is way different than his World Champion Team besides Leon clearly set Ash up to Win it!

Give up on Ash kay because there's no reason for him to be in this Series because his Character Got a Huge Tribute to Say Goodbye to Ash Ketchum in Japan besides Both Voice Actors said Goodbye to Ash as well! 👌👇 Ash will most likely be mentioned in the Series only but hopefully they give fans a clue about Ash's travels by Liko or Roy asking someone who knows Ash but Liko might not know about Ash because she could have been in the Paldea Region when Ash won the World Champion Tournament which Roy might have heard about him!

What! You don't know that Chloe is training to become a Pokémon Researcher which was confirmed in the Final Episode of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys Series which I'm not happy with how they treated her character which she deserves better than Goh but they both could definitely be in some of the Pokémon Horizons Series episodes which hopefully Chloe gets a lot more screen time than Goh!
Eeeh, can't really share your enthusiasm... yeah, this was probably the best episode in a long time, but if you think it was "fantastic", it shows how much Sun&Moon and especially Journeys have damaged the standards. The setup of Liko wanting to become stronger after being helpless was indeed well done, but the "I want to protect all of you" was overdoing it ... she hardly knows these people, who until now are still hired bodyguards doing a job! It would have been more than enough if she'd limited it to her own Pokemon (who already was kidnapped once), especially given how introverted she was before. Feels a bit like May forgetting she doesn't like Pokemon within one episode ... And the fast pacing where an issue is solved in the same episode as it's brought up is my main issue here. 8:55 This wasn't "Constant repition"; they did a set of training once, and suddenly not only changed their battle style, but also learned a new attack. This could have been paced way slower, especially with the Airship-setting, where you could show them training for a bit very episode. Yes, there was a good general structure to it, and they apparently try to improve from Journeys, which is a good sign (and which would be hard not to), but I won't praise them for fulfilling the absolute basics again. (Again, if anyone wants to see truly fantastic character work, watch Haikyuu!! ^^) And while I agree they do a good job of characterizing Cpt. Pikachu, I still can't overlook the laziness in the choice of Friede's Pokemon. If they were just Token Characters at the sidelines to cater to Genwunners, whatever, but getting them shoved into our faces constantly is starting to annoy me. And for the last part ... just no. Even though Cap isn't bad, if you think Ash's Pikachu didn't have his own character traits to make him stand out (until XY at least), you might want to refresh your memory a bit, he was one of the best characters in the series. (at least until XY) Also Happy Birthday! ^^
I gotta admit maybe I was a Lil bit too overexcited since it was my bday and that week overall was very positive for me. I guess a lot of that positivity clouded my judgment just a bit haha. But despite the occasion I still have to say that as a whole I still really enjoyed this episode a lot. First of all because I honestly didn't expect much from it. I was already prepared to watch a cap filler episode, so therefore I was genuinely surprised. Secondly I really do think that this episode somewhat at least lingered my worry about in which direction HZ would go, with my biggest fear being that it ends up like Journeys where instead of proper charclacter episode we just get moments only to "go viral" or for "shock value" But especially in hindsight I gotta admit that it probably would have been nice if the overall progression of this training ep was a tad slower, so it would feel a bit more natural. I also have to agree that the reasoning of Liko was a bit of an overkill especially after you pointed it out xD it would have been more than enough to just limit her reasoning to her Sprigatito alone since it is her first pokemon and it was kidnapped before. I would have kept the whole "protecting the RVT" for later down the road after they actually have spent some good amount of time with eachother . But at least we can both agree that the anime is at least trying to be better and to improve compared to there absolutely abysmal predecessor that was journeys. 😅

I personally just like to limit my expectation, I can't bear another disappointment ^^ So I could also be more negative than the episode deserves. I guess the biggest problem, again, is that they already did it better. XY, D&P and even B&W had much better training phases... and at least in BW Ash wasn't a much better trainer than Liko is now ^^ but let's see - they're trying again at least, maybe they just have to get into the groove again after 7 years ^^

I would not say cap pikachu is better, and it doesn’t even seem like he’s Leon’s level, ash’s pikachu beat Leon’s charizard and is able to pull off very powerful thunder bolts, which is seen in the last clash of ash vs Leon so definitely not better than ash’s pikachu but I definitely would say he is a good pikachu
This Pikachu isn't even that cool or good of a character. It's so one dimensional. Captain Pikachu's entire personality is "I'm the coolest, I am a leader". to claim that Captain Pikachu is more bad ass than Ash's Pikachu is a complete disgrace to Ash. Ash's Pikachu is more badass and he doesn't even try to be strong, and the main villains see the strength in Ash's Pikachu. Captain Pikachu can barley win against a couple of Team Rocket Wannabes, while Ash's Pikachu has taken out pseudo legendries, his final evolution, stupidly overpowered Pokémon and a bunch of legendries. Ash's Pikachu is more badass because he doesn't try to be a badass or to be a leader or respected by others, even Ash's strongest Pokémon are more likely to listen to Pikachu. So don't you ever put any disrespect on Ash's name or his Pikachu because friendly reminder Ash and Pikachu are the main reason so many of us became interested in Pokémon
Of course Captain Pikachu is better than Ash's Pikachu. Well Ash Pikachu used to be interesting with his grumpy attitude and the way he had a hard time opening up to others. But in the most recent seasons, and maybe even before that (I dunno I haven't watched the seasons 1 to 4 in a long time), that part of him is completely gone. He may be Ash's friend now, but that doesn't mean one of his main personality trait should suddenly be gone. It's bad writing and it makes the character a lot less interesting.
I actually completely disagree with you regarding Ash's Pikachu. Why on earth would you expect Pikachu to not grow up and learn to trust others/be less grumpy? Why is it bad writing simply because Pikachu developed passed the emotional intelligence of a toddler? Don't get me wrong, you dont have to LIKE the change but to act like its an example of bad writing doesn't make any sense at all.
@@emanx222 Yes I know, you're right. But it happened pretty fast, maybe a bit too fast. And after that happened, what recognizable personality trait did he have left ? Going through character development is a thing, but losing one of your main personality traits in the process isn't great. Even if he likes Ash now, that doesn't mean he suddenly overcame his aversion towards other people (though in the anime, he did, which doesn't make much sense), and even that doesn't mean his attitude should be completely gone. He could still make fun of Ash but in a more playful manner and refuse to obey from time to time, but still show that he trusts Ash and obeys his orders when it truly matters. It would make for good comedy most of the time, but also make the growth they had together even more rewarding to see without reducing Pikachu's personality to a basic "your absolute best friend" trope.

The setup of Liko wanting to become stronger after being helpless was indeed well done, but the "I want to protect all of you" was overdoing it ... she hardly knows these people, who until now are still hired bodyguards doing a job! It would have been more than enough if she'd limited it to her own Pokemon (who already was kidnapped once), especially given how introverted she was before.
Feels a bit like May forgetting she doesn't like Pokemon within one episode ...
And the fast pacing where an issue is solved in the same episode as it's brought up is my main issue here. 8:55 This wasn't "Constant repition"; they did a set of training once, and suddenly not only changed their battle style, but also learned a new attack. This could have been paced way slower, especially with the Airship-setting, where you could show them training for a bit very episode.
Yes, there was a good general structure to it, and they apparently try to improve from Journeys, which is a good sign (and which would be hard not to), but I won't praise them for fulfilling the absolute basics again.
(Again, if anyone wants to see truly fantastic character work, watch Haikyuu!! ^^)
And while I agree they do a good job of characterizing Cpt. Pikachu, I still can't overlook the laziness in the choice of Friede's Pokemon. If they were just Token Characters at the sidelines to cater to Genwunners, whatever, but getting them shoved into our faces constantly is starting to annoy me.
And for the last part ... just no. Even though Cap isn't bad, if you think Ash's Pikachu didn't have his own character traits to make him stand out (until XY at least), you might want to refresh your memory a bit, he was one of the best characters in the series. (at least until XY)

I gotta admit maybe I was a Lil bit too overexcited since it was my bday and that week overall was very positive for me. I guess a lot of that positivity clouded my judgment just a bit haha.
But despite the occasion I still have to say that as a whole I still really enjoyed this episode a lot. First of all because I honestly didn't expect much from it. I was already prepared to watch a cap filler episode, so therefore I was genuinely surprised. Secondly I really do think that this episode somewhat at least lingered my worry about in which direction HZ would go, with my biggest fear being that it ends up like Journeys where instead of proper charclacter episode we just get moments only to "go viral" or for "shock value"
But especially in hindsight I gotta admit that it probably would have been nice if the overall progression of this training ep was a tad slower, so it would feel a bit more natural.
I also have to agree that the reasoning of Liko was a bit of an overkill especially after you pointed it out xD it would have been more than enough to just limit her reasoning to her Sprigatito alone since it is her first pokemon and it was kidnapped before. I would have kept the whole "protecting the RVT" for later down the road after they actually have spent some good amount of time with eachother .
But at least we can both agree that the anime is at least trying to be better and to improve compared to there absolutely abysmal predecessor that was journeys. 😅

I personally just like to limit my expectation, I can't bear another disappointment ^^ So I could also be more negative than the episode deserves.
I guess the biggest problem, again, is that they already did it better. XY, D&P and even B&W had much better training phases... and at least in BW Ash wasn't a much better trainer than Liko is now ^^
but let's see - they're trying again at least, maybe they just have to get into the groove again after 7 years ^^

I would not say cap pikachu is better, and it doesn’t even seem like he’s Leon’s level, ash’s pikachu beat Leon’s charizard and is able to pull off very powerful thunder bolts, which is seen in the last clash of ash vs Leon so definitely not better than ash’s pikachu but I definitely would say he is a good pikachu
This Pikachu isn't even that cool or good of a character. It's so one dimensional. Captain Pikachu's entire personality is "I'm the coolest, I am a leader". to claim that Captain Pikachu is more bad ass than Ash's Pikachu is a complete disgrace to Ash. Ash's Pikachu is more badass and he doesn't even try to be strong, and the main villains see the strength in Ash's Pikachu. Captain Pikachu can barley win against a couple of Team Rocket Wannabes, while Ash's Pikachu has taken out pseudo legendries, his final evolution, stupidly overpowered Pokémon and a bunch of legendries. Ash's Pikachu is more badass because he doesn't try to be a badass or to be a leader or respected by others, even Ash's strongest Pokémon are more likely to listen to Pikachu. So don't you ever put any disrespect on Ash's name or his Pikachu because friendly reminder Ash and Pikachu are the main reason so many of us became interested in Pokémon

Of course Captain Pikachu is better than Ash's Pikachu. Well Ash Pikachu used to be interesting with his grumpy attitude and the way he had a hard time opening up to others.
But in the most recent seasons, and maybe even before that (I dunno I haven't watched the seasons 1 to 4 in a long time), that part of him is completely gone.
He may be Ash's friend now, but that doesn't mean one of his main personality trait should suddenly be gone. It's bad writing and it makes the character a lot less interesting.
I actually completely disagree with you regarding Ash's Pikachu. Why on earth would you expect Pikachu to not grow up and learn to trust others/be less grumpy? Why is it bad writing simply because Pikachu developed passed the emotional intelligence of a toddler? Don't get me wrong, you dont have to LIKE the change but to act like its an example of bad writing doesn't make any sense at all.
@@emanx222 Yes I know, you're right. But it happened pretty fast, maybe a bit too fast. And after that happened, what recognizable personality trait did he have left ? Going through character development is a thing, but losing one of your main personality traits in the process isn't great.
Even if he likes Ash now, that doesn't mean he suddenly overcame his aversion towards other people (though in the anime, he did, which doesn't make much sense), and even that doesn't mean his attitude should be completely gone.
He could still make fun of Ash but in a more playful manner and refuse to obey from time to time, but still show that he trusts Ash and obeys his orders when it truly matters.
It would make for good comedy most of the time, but also make the growth they had together even more rewarding to see without reducing Pikachu's personality to a basic "your absolute best friend" trope.
maybe more badass than ash pikachu but not stronger,we haven't seen his best feats yet maybe going toe to toe with the shiny rayquaza would make it complicated
