    I got a H2R Nova with a NW emitter about 5 years ago, it was one of my first few good lights and I have loads now yet it's still my go-to bike light with the Olight attachment and a frequent EDC. It's the form factor, high versitility, ~4000k tint and sheer power. At the time I got it it was easily the brightness flashlight it it's class and could even burn close-up. I was almost a bit sad when the new Peruns took it over, I've never been a fan of proximity sensors and the first few models were only available in CW tint. They just seemed to lack the same feel of the old one.
    But this, with the red LED and the option for NW, it's brilliant! The reason I haven't got one however is my DW4.

    I have got my mini 2 a few days ago and here my impressions.
    It's a step in the right direction, but not perfect yet. The headband is much better than before. I just don't like the solid plastic, but it might not be that bad in reality. The red light is controversial - it complicates the UI, looks odd and only rated for 100 minutes. I have 3 lights setup for running/edc: Perun Mini 2 - 92g, Perun Mini - 72g (with Zebralight H60 headband) and Zebralight H30 - 62g. Is Perun Mini 2 the best? No, it's not. It is decent enough to be usable in most cases and could be my primary light. I still love the simplicity and quality of the older generation.

  • @marcass100

    just bought perun 2 mini. My scale is showing 91gr with band which is heavier than fenix if I remember your fenix review. The battery indicator is somewhat really weird because it goes orange between 60 and 10 percent. I mean... that's a big range to not know if you are at 11 or 59 percent. The reasons I bought this is it doesn't dip in lumens on either modes except turbo not like fenix. Plus it had ui slightly better I would say. And it was cheaper on sale than fenix. I guess that magnetic charging is quite convenient. Oh and another thing. Not sure at what percentage but the turbo mode does not switch on if its in orange. That's messed up... like I said too big of a range between 60 and 10 percent to keep it on one colour.
    And another thing. If you stay in low or medium and double tap for turbo then switch it off then on it will not be in low or medium but will switch straight to high. Actually if in low it will go to medium and if in medium will go straight to high if you come back after turbo and off. Its not a big deal all of this but... I don't know... not impressed. Its just a little light I guess nothing be buzzing about... could be better for the money I would say.
    And when light is in orange battery "mode" if you double tap turbo then of then on even you were in high you will be back only in medium. 😂
    Actually😅😂😂... it changed coming back to high again after turbo and switch off. I mean... whatever...🙃
    Just tested at night at work. Light is pretty good even on lower modes between buildings where light can sort of bounce of but if you are in a field the high mode is the best. Its good enough for around a house use but if you are out in a fields or whatever you would probably want a bigger light. as for a dog walk and working under a car once in a while its good enough but if you are bicycle riding on trails etc and night walking in mountains you may want a light that gives you more lumens with longer times even if its heavier.

    Have you thought about doing an emitter swap on the Fenix? I've run a LH351D (4000k) with great results, you get a really floody beam pattern bc of the larger emitter size but that is preferable for me as a worklight. I have also tried some units with 219C and 518A emitters (2700k, 3500k, 4000k) all with fantastic results.

    I think the Olight is an awesome light, but for the work I do, which is mainly outdoors for long periods of time I still think the fenix is a better choice because of the higher light outputs at every level and for longer run times. The only exception is the turbo mode on the Olight, but thats only for 2min… I think the Olight is better for indoor work for sure. Nice review!

    • @darrensmith6782
      @darrensmith6782 Год назад +1

      I have the Fenix as well but I find that when you put it on high you get lots of light for a few minutes then it drops down to medium or so and then gets pretty dim right away. When you put it on medium you get a great output for about 15 minutes or so and then it drops down to low for a long time. If low is good enough then you get great runtimes for hours. It would be nice to have high at 400 lumens for a straight hour and medium at 250 lumens for a few hours. I use mine for running at dusk so I don’t turn it on unless it gets dark enough but I don’t think I would use it for long periods at the 160 lumens it gives you. Maybe the 250 the olight puts out may be better.

    I see this mini is available in CW and NW. I could be wrong, but my impression is that the original reason why NW was favored by enthusiasts is that they generally had higher CRIs. Specifically, they could reproduce red better. Knowing, this, shouldn't we solve the primary goal and just tell companies that we want high-CRI emitters? I think they misunderstand and think that we just want yellowish lights, so they rush off to source lower color temps without working hard to get the highest CRI. Now I am forced to decide between CW and NW without knowing the CRI of either. If the NW was CRI 92 and the CW was CRI 68, that is a no-brainer. But if the CW was CRI 90 and the NW was CRI 92, I would get the CW for the crisper look that matches expensive car headlights and generally higher output. We need to demand that lights are always marketed with their CRI and not just lumens and color temp.

    • @cheule
      @cheule  Год назад +4

      CCT and tint are independent variables. Low CRI and high CRI is usually a dependent variable.
      Olight always skews toward output and it why most of their lights are low CRI. However, CRI aside, color rendition will still look more natural between 3000 to 5000K CCT. So even a low CRI NW 5000K emitter will render colors more “naturally” than a cooler 6000-7000K emitter.

      Another way to think of it is to say that they skew towards efficiency in lumens per watt. Just to give an example, an Olight Warrior 2 Mini will run for 3.6 hours at an even 480 lumens on an 18650. Compare that to a Convoy S21E that will also run at 480 lumens, but it is only 1.5 hours! I just spontaneously bought this one and had to come here to check what I just bought 😂 Looks like I did a pretty good deal 🙂
    I got a 30% off coupon at my local flashlight store for being among the first 100 people to claim it from their newsletter. But the coupon only works for 24 hours 😂 (foul play from their side **smh**)

    Not very happy with the way the rubber holds the light. Put it on the first book that we're supposed to be the flashlight will slide out sideways. You didn't have to be modifying something brand new like that

      Did you attach the clip? The clip slides into a slot on the headband holder. Band is supposed to be on the “2nd” band slot.

      @@cheule i finally got it and I’m somewhat disappointed. The tint is ok, but the green circle around the hotspot is horrible. I have the titanium version of the s mini and it’s extremely uniform compared to this one.
      I’m sincerely thinking of selling it.

      Not sure what you are referring to. I don’t have any message pop up. Must be a RUclips ad?

    Hey I’m only about 5 minutes into the video but I’m curious what how long exactly you wear the headlight for and for what exactly also? Just wondering for reference. I am also very concerned with headlamp weight. I just bought this light and I haven’t even taken it out the box yet. I also have a Perun. I want to get a Perun 2 and another in orange rather than black, Perun mini. I used to wear the Perun on my head and it wasn’t not nice at all. But it worked…

      When I wear a headlamp, it’s usually while soldering or doing some other fine detail work. Usually 2-3 hours at a time.

      You do comment a lot, and for that I thank you. Hopefully the flashlight insight you gain from watching my videos is rewards enough. And also hopefully you aren’t actually threatening me.

      I think he's insane. He makes whiny
      comments about his health and rent
      he has to pay, but appears to not work
      for a living. Also seems to stalk "particular"
      light reviewers.
