I bought the same sale. I am overly impressed with both lights, particularly with the Baton 4 Pro since the case charges many other Olights, but is also a 5000mah battery bank for other devices.
I would look around. I was able to purchase a replacement Fenix LD15R magnetic tailcap from a supplier. The stock HM50R had a couple of extra threads than the LD15R cap but still appears to be waterproof with it applied. (I dropped it, without battery, in a 5gal bucket of water for 30mins with no adverse effects). YMMV. Now I have a perfect combination of handheld, magnetic, and head-mounted options in a compact form.
Great idea, I took your advice and did the same thing. The only thing missing for me now is a low setting on the fenix, 30 lumen for the low is too bright.
This is the best comparison review by far. I think that the Olight 2 lm moonlight white light is a winner and will soon appear on the Fenix. Red light is better in every way on the Fenix. Still too many button clicks on these torches. I'd like to see manual switches for red or white light and also for last use memory or low to high, even though it would add to the price. Minor correction. Olight’s flashlights can use other brands of rechargeable batteries as long as they deliver enough current, which for the Perun-Mini & Baton series is a 5C rating I believe. They just can’t be charged in the flashlight, so you have to take the non-Olight battery out and use an appropriate charger for whichever type of battery you’re using. That magnetic charging cable attachment is 100% worth paying a few bucks more for the convenience though.
@@mcmlxv9827 A CR123A also works in the Perun 2 Mini in moonlight, low, and medium. So one can always have more than one way to get light in an emergency. One can also buy the Baton 4 Premium and use its charging case with the Perun 2 Mini and/or switch the batteries of the two lights while the other one is charging. Not to mention it gives one a powerbank and works off a standard USB C cord.
The Fenix 50 is the light that got me into Olights. The charging port was cumbersome and too small for a lot of my USB-C cords. Now I own dozens of Olights and have given family and friends dozens more. No regrets.

Moreover Perun 2 Mini when powered from a powerbank can use all of its modes whereas Fenix can only use its lowest mode. This is also to be considered for long term trips where maybe you'll need to charge and use the light at the same time (see cave trips or backpacking over night.) I have a 10.000 mAh powerbank in my backpack's top lid and the charging cable connected to my headlamp this giving me a very long peace of mind in regards to autonomy but also with the possibility to use all the lights functions. @@GearGadgetReviews

By the way, the run times fenix uses are not correct. There's a 1lumen review that shows the turbo mode drops from 700 lumens almost immediately and will be below 200 lumens at 7.5 minutes, climb to 365 lumens around 14min and zig-zag until 55 min, at which time it drops to 120 lumens. Olights are known for being pretty accurate in their run times and brightness values.
yep i thought the same thing about the red light being too bright. I'm done with olights magnetic charging. the Perun headband sucks. I have two perun 2 mini that I'm going to replace.
In this case the perun 2 mini will work with a standard 16340, and not all Olights need proprietary cells. This doesn’t, but charging will only work with the included sale. And none of their AA or AAA lights obviously require proprietary cells.
You can just get the olight magnetic chargehead keychain which you attach to your Keys or if it fits in your wallet which Will turn any usbC cable into a magnetic olight charge cable
what is your go-to headlamp for night hiking. I have the Olight Array 2S, which start with very nice bright red LED but sadly doesn't maintain its brightness: after an hour or so, the brightness is very low, possibly lower than it's rated low RED output settings. Have you tried green LED better contrast, bit not as good to keep night vision than red but far better than white(never tried myself).

The Olight proprietary charger is really not that big a deal. Just leave it hooked up to your usb A car charger. And the good thing is you don’t have to thread and unthread over the battery enclosure, causing wear and tear over time.
I do wish the Perun 2 Mini in neutral white also had a 5 lumen or so red, to go with its brighter setting/flash modes. There is no reason a third setting would be confusing and it certainly would be useful to have it for close-up use and runtimes. That said the white light low on the Fenix is just too bright. I far prefer the white 2 lumen "moonlight" mode for 10 days of the Olight Perun 2 Mini and find it a very useful level. It is also somewhat inexcusable that Fenix would mislead anyone into thinking they are going to get 700 lumens out of that small light for any significant amount of time with today's technology; certainly NOT 1 hour. I know there is a comment already made that also points out that error. I also need neutral white in a headlamp. So the Perun 2 Mini in neutral white is going to be my pick....besides I already have more than one of them. ;-) I do very much like the Fenix HM65R-T which does have a warm/neutral white flood. I wish the spot was neutral white, but I can live with CW in that. [I just saw they have a dual spot with one neutral white....if that was just on the HM65R-T along with the warm flood I would be even happier with it.]
Focal Shadow? Lens Shadow? Beam Hole? The charger system is a bit of a headache. Keep any digital memory devices away from a magnet, and I don't know if magnets have an effect on the performance of batteries. Come to think of it; If I have to carry another part, why not an extra battery?
So I'm I huge olight guy, I have the perun mini 2 and as a backpacker I hate the mini 2, Red light 40lm retarded if you ask me, the headband is a letdown only cause the rubber tab rubs against your forehead, I had to switch out the new for the old perun 1st gen cause it's magnetic and the rubber tab works on the first notch unlike the new one where you have to stretch it to the second notch.. the only thing I like is the beam profile.. So I actually ordered the fenix today from Amazon and from all the RUclips videos I've seen this light wins in ever battle for my uses . Now don't tell olight I made the switch to a better headlamp lmao

Nice comparison. Proprietary batteries and proprietary charging make it an immediate no. If Olight made a product that had actual competitive advantages, then it might make sense to buy into their system, but I see no point when there’s tons of others who do it better with widely available consumables. Check out the HM60R. It’s light enough that you don’t have to use the center strap, the added flood is really helpful, and red led is the same intensity as the one on your HM50R v2.0.
I have 3 spare 16340 Olight for Baton 3 and 4 but i wont buy an Olight headlamp. For me, the best is Fenix HM65R-DT with theat warm white, incredible good for wet, snowed or ice surfaces.
Hi Brian, The Olight's are all but banned in the LEO world. I would NEVER get an Olight. I worked the midnight shift at the PD for decades. If your proprietary charging cord took a S_ _T you could not just go to the local gas station or all night pharmacy for a charging cord you were SOL until you ordered one from Olight. I also have the Fenix, I give the Fenix two thumbs up. I am a gear and bag nut.
I bought the Baton 4 Premium with charging base, and The Perun 2 $89 shipped. Great combo. Both will charge in portable base. A++ video.

The perun 2 mini can use the fenix battery but not charge it. It can also use the 3v lithium primaries but its output is limited .

Yes the moonlight is amazing. And that it is memorized is a nice touch from Olight. 10 days on a 16340 battery is insane!

I'm 6 months late, but you don't have to only use Olight's battery. You can use the regular disposable types as a backup. Not that you'll need them.
You can just get the olight magnetic chargehead keychain which you attach to your Keys or if it fits in your wallet which Will turn any usbC cable into a magnetic olight charge cable
