  • This is a clip from the film, The Devil's Violinist. This may be my favorite music scene of all time! I absolutely love it! The film is about the Italian violinist and composer Niccolò Paganini. Paganini is considered the greatest violinist of the 19th century. Playing Niccolò Paganini is the German violinist David Garrett. I am a huge David Garrett fan! This scene inspired me to learn the violin. Let me know what you think.

      um.. as a violinist yes you can if you dont use all aspects of the violin and just play scales you wouldnt be using it to its full potential especially is you only play in first position as many do that using the whole violin utilizes pizz, harmonics, chords, aswell as getting into the higher register and so much more pagannini caprice 24 is an excellent example of using the whole violin, and that is not "hood slang"@@dongiano

    Part of the reason people were so in awe with his skill is because nobody really plucked violin strings, they pressed them. Him pressing, plucking, and the bow is part of what made him so amazing

      @M0du5Pwn3n5 10 месяцев назад +25

      Plucking was relatively rare, but not unheard of (it's still relatively rare). What makes Caprice 24 nuts is that he's plucking with BOTH HANDS. It's hard to see if you don't know what's going on, but you can't pluck a violin that fast with just your right hand doing normal pizzicato. Caprice 24 involves left-handed pizzicato, which was practically unheard-of, and is still extremely rare. So your right hand plucks the strings while your left hand both fingers the notes AND plucks the strings.
      Paganini's Caprices were not just amazing for their time either. There are certainly a lot more people today who can play Caprice 24, but that's mostly just because competition for music schools and orchestra spots has become so fierce. It's still among the hardest existing pieces of violin music.

    • @dongiano
      @dongiano 9 месяцев назад +4

      @M0du5Pwn3n5 I feel like a schmuck now because I didn't even realize that he was doing that. Watching it again, I do, but initially I didn't realize he was using both hands to pluck

    • @traceyxxrose7454
      @traceyxxrose7454 4 месяца назад +1

      The song is not written as plucking with both hands…… it’s written as staccato with the bow and a hammer on and pull off with the left hand to make a unique sound. It’s not pizz with both hands. You can watch Hillary Hahn do it the correct way as this is not it…

But I find Becker and Friedman to be sort of like Shakespeare's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern: There's really no reason to distinguish one from the other... For that reason, I can't see Jason Becker as being a tremendous influence on the whole of the rock guitar community when he wasn't really even unique within his own band. As much as I like Paul Gilbert, the same might be said about him and Bruce Bouillet. But I admit Jason wasn't just all chops... he played some nice tasty stuff and didn't really get credit for his musicality, in the same way that people who haven't really listened to much Malmsteen sometimes critique him, too.

    Back then classical music was for the people what modern music is to us today. They usually cheered during and between movements. In fact, oftentimes musicians like Paganini only performed the first movement of a concerto as it was the most popular part. And they usually ended their performances with salon pieces to show off with their skills. Furthermore, artists such as Mozart or Beethoven improvised a lot (cadenzas, for example). I guess, all the classical composers would be somewhat shocked to see how the conservatory-trained musicians of today replicate their music note for note without adding anything personal to the compositions. Unfortunately, most of them were not able to do that anyway as they had never learned to improvise. And they would never dare altering one single note, either.

    Amo esta parte de la peli, aunque les parezca cursi la manera en que Nicolo mira a Charlotte, es un momento sublime y bello.

    He was the Jimi Hendrix of his day. Literally a god. He was a Rock Star by the standards of that time. There weren't different genres. This was the only style. This is MUSIC!!!!!
