  • The Folsom Lake Symphony performs the Khachaturian Violin Concerto. Violinist Kerson Leong solos and makes his American debut. "The Spirit of Freedom" concert on April 2, 2016 at the Harris Center for the Arts, Folsom, CA. Peter Jaffe, Music Director and Conductor. Includes encore: Andante from Solo Violin Sonata in A minor by Bach.

    One of my favourite movements from Bach's solo violin . Such a fluid flowb of the "voices"

    I know very well this concerto, and this interpretation is remarkable, full of energy and of deep feeling. Of course, I agree that the tone is always in place. Congratulations, Kerson!

    I think the Khachaturian's cadenza is really awesome and dark, so I can't see the necessity to cut it.

    Leong one of my favorite violinists today.
    And personally, the orchestra significantly below in level, energy and character, looking at the players seems like if it was simply a gig for some of them.

    Good job but more mastery is needed. More bravado is needed with such pieces. Listen to Lydia Mordkovitch's playing of this (nit available on youtube) and you'll know what I'm talking about.
