Loved the video, though as a Dane I will say... that was not Smørrebrød, that was just bread with salmon on hahaha still delicious, but very far from the traditional smørrebrød
Also dipping Tebirkes in coffee!? I have never in my life seen or heard of this, definitely not a traditional danish thing, but I do have to try it now! we usually cut it open and put butter on, and perhaps also cheese or chocolate depending on what you like :)

if you ever visit Denmark again, try to get outside of Copenhagen, since Copenhagen is much more International than the rest of Denmark, so you mainly get tourist food, or modern twist to Danish things, if you want to see original Danish things, it is a bit harder to find it in Copenhagen. I am happy you found a real hotdog stand, since I have seen many videos with Vegan or Healthy versions, where it have been called a Real Danish Hotdog, a good place for some Old Fashion Danish food would be a Kro (Tavern) since many of them serve more Traditional Food, specially those on the county side, and most of the time they are also above average when it comes to quality.

A hotdog is so good because it's the only native food item in Denmark that contains something sweet (the bun and the roasted onions), something sour (the pickles), something bitter (the mustard), something salty (the ketchup), and something umami (the sausage itself), as such you get the full satiety experience from eating one that you'd normally only get from Asian food. This is the reason a hotdog feels so filling as it fills your tastebuds instead of your stomach sack physically.

What is now known as "Danish" at many places, is actually the Danish interpretation of the bread made by some Wienese bakers, who became called to Denmark during a strike many years ago. They actually should have been named, "Skruebrækkere" for doing this during a local strike, and they haven't been popular at all among the local and now unemployed bakers, but the new kinds of bread they made became so popular that the Danish bakers had to make something similar when the strike ended!!!

If you go to Jylland you can get this style as well, but you have to ask for "Københavnerbirkes". The thing with most Danish pastries (especially the flaky ones) is that excess sweetness is very rarely baked into the dough itself - instead if the pastry requires a sweeter experience, then the sweetness will come from baked-in creams and toppings instead, usually with cinnamon and jam etc, so the dough isn't "compromised". The dough itself is a mix of salt and sweet, which is also a common theme in many Danish sweets like some of our liquorice, salted caramel, etc.
The key in making the Danish dough is to keep it crisp and very light, but with a sweet&salt flavor unlike traditional French croissant which is more buttery and plain.

Tebirkes also called tea puppyseed ( if translated ) is an item eaten with youre afternoone tea, often cut in half and aten with butter. its breadlike as youre breakfast bread, but a little more flaky like a cake, the bread is savery and the remonce is sweet, like a cake. the '' caramel '' insite is called remonce and is a creeme made with soft butter, cinemon, brown sugar and some oil and a bit of flour to thicken it up,

    1000g carrots $0.85 or $1.56 (eco-organic)
    Pepsi Cola 1.5 liter (0.4 gallons) $1.33
500g Christmas sausage $1.7 (special Christmas discount)
1000g Pork roast (pure meat, no bones), $4.11
500g minced pork meat 8-12% fat $2.84 (special Christmas discount)
500g minced beef 4-7% fat, 8-12% fat or 15-18% fat, they do not sell minced meat with 20% fat in Denmark
    $4.96 (8-12% fat)
Food prices make no sense unless you also look at the income after taxes. I have worked part-time in Denmark as a night watch, no degree required and only 3 days of training (at full pay), had some previous experience so wages ranged from $26.5 to $37.5 an hour depending on the day of the week and if it was on a holyday, you are still entitled to 5+1 weeks' fully paid vacation a year + holydays and a pension scheme, as for taxes, then in general the average income taxes are around 40%, but truth of the matter is that there are different brackets and deductions (in fact, union and unemployment insurance payments are automatically deducted) and the first around $6,300 you earn a year is totally tax free. So, working part time I was actually paying less than 30% income taxes, and obviously you need no health insurance because it's paid for through taxes and no need to save up money for an education either, because a higher education is free, including university college, in fact you even get paid to study ( around $885 a month if you do not live at home with your parents, because then you only get up to around $380 a month).
Perhaps I should add, that in the UK food prices are around half of that in the USA and Denmark, and they pay no VAT sales taxes on food at all, but on the other hand they also earn around $1,000 less a month on average after taxes in compared to Denmark, and even if you correct this in accordance with the purchasing power parity (PPP), they are still around $850 short after taxes a month, so that would buy you a lot of groceries and plenty of other stuff. Another advantage of earning more an hour on average but then paying a fairly high 25% VAT sales tax is that the government has a "tool in the toolbox" to cut prices by up to 25% from one day to the next, if prices start skyrocketing and spin out of control for some unexpected reason. not that it has been deemed needed so far here in Denmark.

So no one told you to get flæskesteg med rødkål? On behalf of my country - I must apologize for the sub-par advice you were given. Flæskesteg med rødkål (pork roast with crackling + sweet pickled red cabbage) is THE undisputed GOAT of the Danish kitchen. It's literally the perfect "sweet, salty, sour, savory" combination. VERY few Danes would turn you down if you offered it to them - and they would get a "What the heeeeeellllllllll" look from most other Danes when they do. 😀
    Different uses of it:
It can be served with potatoes, a brown sauce made from the pork roast + different kinds of pickled cucumber (including "Asier") as a family dinner. + Taffel chips or Menu chips... or both!
    In a sandwich.
    On smørrebrød.
    In a burger.
And the leftovers are great for "Biksemad"
All 5 versions are insanely good - and the first thing that comes to mind for most Danes when mentioning "Danish food".

Thank you for the nice video. I am sorry, that you fell into the turist trap "Torvehallerne", inspite of you having a danish guide. It is SO expensive! Next time please try some of the cheaper traditionelle Danish restaurants. Like: "Restaurant Vita. Storekongesgade 25. 1264 København K". Or "Restaurant Klubben. Enghavevej 4. 1674 København V"" Or "Det lille apotek. Store Kannikestræde 15. 1264 København K". And you simply have to try: Roasted pork with crackling salthy skin and "brown potatoes" (fried in sugar and butter) + white potatoes, gravy and red cabbage. So Yummy. Most Americans loves it. Btw.. The danish version of "Gravad salmon, is usually served with asparagus and a cold mustard gravy (named Fox souce", no foxes in it though) . And please also try real Smørrebrød on rye bread, difrent versions, sitting down eating with knife and fork. Like Fish Filet with lemon and "Remulade". Do feel free to contact me, if you need more informaion. Thank you again😋

The salmon has the fishy taste it's supposed to. The fish for sale in the US just have a lot of additives and stuff that creates that taste. Fish in Denmark has a varied range of tastes and they're all unique since the fish is raw, so to speak, instead of loaded up with additives that all give them the same artificial taste. Also, fresh fish never, ever smell of anything save seawater mixed with meat. If you ever get a fish that smells of anything else t then it's past the date of its last sale and should just be tossed no matter how fresh it looks.
The food you ate in Europe compared to the US is how food is supposed to taste. Instead of our food being exceptional it's US food that's horrible, and that's a general thing as several of the additives in US food are illegal for consumption in Europe. I think the additives used in US bread to keep it fresh and bouncy are derived from rubber or used in rubber itself and should never be consumed by humans or any living beings for that matter.
European bread will often start molding in four days unless refrigerated, this includes factory-produced bread, though most of it will last around a week so it can be sold. US bread can easily last four weeks outside of one.
Spangsbjerg Flødeboller are high-quality items, practically the highest level of gourmet flødebolle for commercial sale that you can find. They have stringent quality control where if their flødeboller has even the slightest production flaw, even if the stuffing is perfect is rated as second-grade and sold via outlets instead of stores.
