Mass Effect’s Brutal Krogan Rebellions | Mass Effect Krogan FULL Lore

- Опубликовано: 9 июл 2024
- The Krogan species are some of the fiercest warriors in the whole of the Mass Effect Universe, however despite this, their numbers are extremely limited as they are all hidden away in their separate clans.
Their history with the Citadel Counsel is also extremely heated with not many living within the Citadel itself. So what happened? Why are the Krogan so low on numbers and what were the events that led up to where we are now?
In today's video, we explore the events of the Krogan Rebellions as well as the events prior to them and the consequences of them.

Hope you all liked this video guys and also sorry for saying Species so much. Have a drink on me for each one you heard!
Suddenly drunk!
As much as I love your videos. I kinda love my liver a bit more.
I took your advice and I’m writing this comment from the afterlife.
To say the croghans were going to go extinct because of the genofage is not being completely honest.
More than made it explicitly clear that the Jenna fage wasn't a sterility virus it was a population control virus which meant that it would change itself to allow for more or less births depending on their population rate krogan's were killing themselves off culturally
I like it when Wrex says 'Shepuurd'
Makes the entire trilogy a replay.
I was caught completely off guard by the gag Wrex and Grunt do about that in 3
You quote warlords but you are The offspring of a syringe, that line makes me chuckle every time .
Fun fact: there is no such recorded instance where a Krogan has died of old age.
Despite Mass Effect Andromeda characters calling Drack an old man for being 1400 Earth years old, he's not even the oldest Krogan we've met. Warlord Okere taught Grunt about the Rachni and told him they are a worthy foe. The only time a Krogan ever respects another opponent is if they have fought them first hand or seen them in action. It's possible Warlord Okere was alive and fought in the Rachni wars which would have made him close to 2100 Earth years old before he died.
That’s so cool
I wouldn't be surprised if Krogan _can't_ die of old age
@@HalTheBot Right. Between their organ redundancy, their ability to store massive amounts of nutrients, and really slow metabolism plus sci-fi space magic they probably could live for a crazy amount of time.
That's not surprising considering how the Krogans evolved. I wonder if they have functional immortality like elves? Where their cells stop breaking down after a given age? Of course the Krogans could also just have a ridiculously long lifespan.
Reminds me of Lobsters lol. The only reason they die is predators or sicknesses (parasites).
Just cured the genophage in mass effect 3, so nice timing
Your doing amazing job representing mass effect lore, can't wait entill quarian lore
Quarians are really awesome honestly
God yes, I’m waiting eagerly for that video
Please

For as smart as the salarians are i always wonder if they could genetically change the krogen to be less aggressive
Mordin, yes, simple genotypical change. Prefer peace, yes, may work as increased fertility spreads throughout species. No. No... high rates of aggressive males will make dominance challenges unfavorable. And the females... uhhhhhhh... cultural impact unfavorable. Re-emergence of undesirable traits a certainty. Krogan generations... too short... for lasting genetic change by foreign introduction. Final conclusion
@@seikoshinohara3084 I’m Urdnot Rex and I approve this message.
Infecting the population with a genetic plague is a lot different then genetically engineering the behavior of an entire species it would take generations of gene therapy willing or unwilling and even then by the time you're done they wouldn't be krogan anymore wouldn't be any different than what the reapers did to the protheans turning them into the collectors
@@randomrandomnesss2188 Wrex*
Krogan are smart. But with their aggression being lowered they may see it as barbaric but still have the choice to become mercenaries and soldiers and what not.
As much as I love the Krogan and Wrex, I can't help but think the Genophage was the right call. It is an awful, unethical solution to an awful and unethical problem. Without Wrex, the Krogan will immediately go on a revenge crusade against the galaxy.
The problem is we're given two extreme solutions. The genophage results in 1/1000 live young, this results in a shrinking population for the Krogan and eventual extinction, while the natural 1000 young per female is clearly unsustainable and would result in war, followed by famine and extinction on a galactic scale. Tweeking the genophage so Krogan females have more offspring than the 1/1000, but not the full 1000 would make the most sense.
If, as I mostly do, Wrex is leader in ME2 I go with the cure in ME3. If he's not, then I don't. Though the "extra" Salarian aid in ME3 at the loss of Wrex is no way worth it.
@@redrave404 Its only shrinking cuz the Krogan keep killing each other or dying in combat. 1 viable birth a year is equivalent to humans, if not better and we are not at risk of dying.
@@IrishWarrior00 Krogan aren't human. It's a problem in most sci-fi with aliens, people want to identify with the alien characters, so the authors/creators treat them as merely strange looking humans with superpowers. But Krogan aren't human, they evolved on a planet with different evolutionary pressures. A world where aggression and violence were far more necessary than earth, and therefore intrinsic to natural Krogan behavior. The Krogan will always have a higher death-rate than other species, and the Salarians should have taken that into account if they were sincere in "helping" the Krogan by bringing their fertility rates in align with other species.
Yeah, *no*.
In that case, just do the kindness of a bioweapon that sterilizes them outright, or is just fatal. The genophage IS a slow extinction. It makes life hell for mothers, many of whom commit suicide, and it killed the spirit of the species.
Truth is, the Krogan were never given a chance. They were living in a post-apocalyptic world, with all the hard cruelty that breeds; and then uplifted for the sole purpose of waging a genocidal war. No wonder they turned out the way they did! The Council reinforced all their worst qualities!
How the Krogans turned out cannot be blamed on their nature, but the choices enforced on them.
Shepard! Easily one of my favourite fictional species, they’re so cool with such a tragic story. I know I sound like a broken record at this point but great job as ever WiseFish
My favorite species. Ahhhh a grand video indeed.
Krogan Guard: "Check out the quad on that human"
Grunt: "That is Battle Master Sheppard, his pair is indeed impressive"
Garrus: "That's right..., humans only have two testicles."
Krogan Guard: "But.. how?"
Wrex: "Sheppard's pair beats your four of a kind...."
Liara: *blushes*
What the fuck did I just read

16:29 that armor setup is awesome.
tbh the genophage probably wasn't a bad idea but it was way too extreme. Genophage lite is probably what should have been used cut their breeding rate a bit but not a ton
The Genophage reduces the birthrate so that they give birth to one young a year, much like humans. If the Krogan weren't so violent they'd be fine.
So instead of 1 in 1,000,000 being viable 1 in 50,000?
Great video. I either had never read about the Krogan pirate character before or had forgotten it but that sounds both badass and scary AF.
I work as a video editor so a lot of times i need to listen to something to keep my mind occupied while doing the boring stuff. I've now listened to everything you have posted and can't wait for more content! Thankyou WiseFish! :D
Now I believe the krogan under leadership of like wrex and bakara can thrive, and therefore I think that curing the genophage is the right thing, but back then its extreme but necessary as I feel that it was the only way to quell the krogan
Listening to this one on the bus to work. Thanks mate!!
You do a great job with your videos! I've been watching your channel a lot recently..
this is very fun to watch left a like love seeing what you did differently from me in your playthrough
Yssss, mass effect lore! Thank you sir.
I really like this videos: greatly researched and so nicely edited.
Shame you did not continue with videos.
Your lore vids are some of the best man.
Bro please keep continue doing these videos 💪🔥
Great video
Good video!
That was AWESOME excellent work respect dude.
Would love to see THE KLINGONS THE KROGAN and THE SONTARANS fight.
One tiny nitpick, according to the Rachni queen in the first game the queens were controlled by a "sour yellow tone/note"
Looking forward to the next one.
A really interesting and tragic story about the ole Krogan. If they hadn't been so over-zealous in war maybe the genophage would never have happened but then would there have been a bargaining chip to get them to help out in the war against the Reapers? Great lore vid, as usual! Well played.
A good fight
When you want to win a battle, you ring the Krogan. When you want to win a war, you ring the Turians.
Great video as always fish! You got any plans to do a video of the Batarian Skylian Blitz?
I dont even follow mass effect but I love how to make your videos so ill always watch what you put out!
I always wondered why the council didn't just give the Krogan all of the not quiet right world that no one else can live on. While not as nice as Earth, they could easily survive in so many places. Let them mine the world no one else can go to and fill up those worlds. Also since a hundred years is nothing to them and risking life and lim is a Tuesday for them. Have the Krogan begin to explore the unknown parts of the galaxy. They could find where those relays go to and turn them on from the other end. Allow them to keep a garden world and all of the not quite right for most worlds. Yes you will have trillions of Krogan but at least they can be happier.
The problem was that Krogan started seizing worlds belonging to the other species. The Rebellions literally began when they attacked an Asari colony and wouldn't leave.
the krogans wouldve been far too powerfull to defeat in a war if they were given more planets
The krogans had not learned the lessons of their history & the Council, especially the salarians, failed to see this as well. So after they were given high weapons & resources, of course they were going to expand & conquer.
Talent. Thank you sir.
Great video as always matey! And congrats on the 50k subs!
On the question of the unified Krogan clans threatening the galaxy once again, it depends on who's supreme overlord. If it's Wreav, then yeah, the Krogan will threaten the galaxy once more, but if it's his more level headed brother Wrex, then they'll be kept in check. If Eve dies, then Wreav wouldn't have anything keeping his ambitions from coming to fruition, but if she survives, Wrex would be able to rally other clans under the banner of Clan Urdnot, but this is determined which one is clan chief of Urdnot.
FULL lore???
more like, FULL steam ahead for more amazing videos!!!
Right off the bat, the Iconic Normandy.
18:18 Mordin even says he'd never met a Krogan worthy of the term scientist.
I know these are old and youre slowly adding content, but can you do one on the Rachnii wars? Idk if there's too much info on it or is it supposed to be vague on purpose?
Mass effect Krogan: you’re killing our kids, you’re killing our species, we will unlife you!
Fallout brotherhood’s super mutants: for us to be able to breed is a weapon far greater than anything humanity can threaten us with.
Fallout 1: don’t tell him we’re sterile.
3 mutants: we’re empty, but we won’t stop
4: *cult of the abandoned children*
Fallout new vegas: we’re going extinct and we won’t even mention it, this is fine.
I really
I must say Mordin was right about the Genophage, until the Reaper War, Krogans already learned to their mistake and the cure was their hope to renew their ways?
oooh ! lore time !
Shepard helping heal the Krogan seems like a very grave mistake that will result in the extinction of humanity.
It depends on the ending, I think that with the destruction ending they could grow out of "control" same with control ending, with the synthesis ending however I'm thinking that the genetic changes that occurred could stabilise their birthrate to a viable level
Rachni wars, brogan rebellions and first contact war... We need games.
So both the rachni and the krogan wars were the result of the salarians?
For the rachnis case, it's a "dude wtf!?!" Moment
For the krogans case, it's a "why'd you have to do that to us?" Moment
Literally all of the problems besides the geth, but by this point I would not be surprised if they were, are the results of the salarians not communicating well enough with another species or not at all.
If any one race that deserves to be harvested, it's those frogs.
Or as javick says: "throw them out the air lock!"
Its funny because many of the citadel species have their dark pasts. The Asari despite being blessed with amazing gifts from the Proteins live a huge percentage of their lives being dancers and then live their twilight years as life coaches. They were literally sitting on the key to stopping the reapers for centuries but got caught up in their own pride.
@@gibster9624protein be crazy 🤣
The rachni didnt give a fuck about communication so, fuck them lol. And the Krogan, basically before they were discovered they were kiling eachothers for sports and almost extinct. When they were founded, they helped with the war of the rachni and they were awarded with better planets and better life and they decided to bite the hand of the givers becuase KROGAN wanted more war, not the Salarians, hell the rebellion war started becausethe Krogan didnt wanted to leave one of the Asari world, so they were actually communicating with them before a war could break out lol. Here i have to give it to the council for the genophage, yeah, it was a extreme decision but do you prefer to sacrifice thousands to save a whole galaxy?
Salarians stole ftl tech from the rachni? I don't think so... Since they must have had that tech to use the relays in the first place... And no communication to the queens is logical, since they were, by that time, controlled by the reapers. You know, that sour oily song...
But other than that, good vid.
You don't need ftl tech to use the relays, unless, of course, you are counting the relays themselves. Humans just happened to find one floating around Pluto. If there is a relay close enough to your planet to reach using sublight speeds, you can then just relay hop to other star systems using sublight ships.
@@achristiananarchist2509 damn you're right, I always forget, that the ships can use ftl w/o relays, Normandy SR2's first flight... The relays just make them even faster.
Imagine that, the Turian population rallying around a war.
I've felt one of the untold threads of Turian banners... sorry Society is their NEED for a war. Not to win, or they'd care more about their losing economic war with the "client" species the Volus. But to be IN a war. Humans in Mass Effect, just as warlike, but they don't NEED war, they end UP in it. So they can try to get out of it. Remember, the Turian Heirarchy TRIED to go total war. That's what got Humanity brought to the attention of the Citidel
GREAT VID.🐱
Unpopular opinion: The Krogan deserved the Genophage.
The orks deserve it more, saying otherwise is more heretical, Guardsmen!
making 3 Turian worlds uninhabitable? Yeah they did tbh
The krogan needed to be humbled by the genophage, but it should have been dialed back later on. But they need a leader like Wrex for that to be feasible. Krogan need to seriously rethink their warlike culture
Basically they're like mandalorians but alien like
WiseFish>Your favourite youtuber.

Yes!! More Mass Effect! 😁
Take a shot everytime he says "hit back"
Awesome
The only thing I disagree with is the beginning where if I heard right you painted a picture of tuchunka as always being not very lush, where in me3 eve says that in the past it was green until the nuclear war.
Now I could I’d heard wrong or miss understood if that’s the case ignore this if not cool
“Hey, yeah, you know all these gifts we’ve been giving you? Yeah, so, we did that because you’re immortal fighting machines that breed like rabbits and we need cannon fodder. Thanks for volunteering.”
Man it makes me really sad that we probably won’t get a true Mass Effect 4.
What about the new game coming?
Aren’t they working on a new game?
A good bug is a dead bug.
Starship Troopers and Krogan would get along really well until there are no bugs left.
The Krogan are the most tragic species in Mass Effect
I don't agree with you but they are one of the most tragic
I happily ended the rachni as well as the krogan.
Don't start no shit there won't be no shit
I always found it amusing when Mordin would say “no no it’s not genocide. It just reduces their birthdate at a genetic level to near zero” it’s like, Mordin, my man, that IS genocide.
you're wrong, genocide is defined as the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. The genophage did not kill any krogans, it simply massively lowered the birth rate of the krogan population.
I don't think it has been stated but was the cure to the genophage a full restoration of the Krogans reproductive cycle or was it improved to a higher level but not the levels seen in the past?
Toad like! If I was a Krogan I’d head but you for calling the coolest race in Mass effect that. I always thought they looked more like reptilian bison humanoids.
Are going to continue mass effect lore videos Playlist?
Yes I am. Just trying to pick a topic to cover next for it

Report to the ship as soon as possible-
A fully matured Krogan is only 10 years old?
I would love to hear the lore of NieR: Automata.
The salarian made a mistake but the krogan made a bigger mistake provoking the war.
I'm a big lore junkie and I remember in ME3 when it came up about curing the genophage on my first playthrough I was immediately like, nah that's a horrible fucking idea. Love you Wrex and Grunt but if someone assassinates y'all I'd be dooming the galaxy.
If my information is correct, the salarian found the rachnni 1st, then the "uplifting" of the krogan. Then the genophage.
So the Salarians (& Asari) are the bad guys. Not Racchni or Krogans
Put you had the push it too far Krogan
Nice comment.
Imagine how good a Netflix show this IP would make?
Really?
Remember what they did with thw Witcher?
MassEffect has amazing potential for awesome series and movies but not now. Hollywood is out of line. They would just tarnish this great IP with hack-writers and activists.
But one day we may see something great...
Yeah I know we all love Wrex and Grunt, I do anyway, but really the Genophage was really too light of a countermeasure, the realistic solution for dealing with a species THAT set on being aggressive bullies, you either completely subjugate the whole species and keep them on a very tight leash, or you exterminate the entire population. Personally, id have harvested tons and tons of genetic components from all the strongest ones and used it to create some Krogan-android/cyborg things that could be used to defend against threats like the reapers.
spooky 666th
The krogan need leaders like Wrex to keep them on a leash, otherwise the rebellions would happen again and the genophage would be necessary again. The krogan didn't learn from the genophage and everyone screaming at them to stop being stupid and self-destructive, and they actively refuse to rebuild. Unless Wrex can change their culture and quell their ambition, the genophage should stay in place, albeit maybe lighter.
the genophage must be upheld, even if it means sacrificing friends
krogans won't ever learn
Are you deliberately spreading misinformation? Or are you just so bad at reading comprehension, that somehow you MIS-READ the lore?
What did he get wrong? I'm not trying to jab at you, this is a genuine question. I'm only just now getting into the series, so I genuinely don't know.
Edit: Just saw that you posted this 7 months ago, so I'm not expecting you to remember. Sorry bout that!
All Krogans
Should be forced to marry asari and the problem would be solved
Wouldn't that just make more Asari?
