Guatemala looks like amazing! It seems like a hidden gem of a country not a lot of people think about! The lush forests look beautiful and the Mayan ruins look very interesting!
Okay so like you probably totally don't remember me but you came to my school like a couple weeks ago and I wrote a letter saying how excited I was for when you finally covered Guatemala and here we are!! I couldn't stop smiling the entire time great video as always :)
0:27 The first confusion that I found in this video is that the name of the country DOES NOT come from such a thing "Mayan-Nahuatl". The reason why I say this is because Mayan and Nahuatl are completely different, here are the facts: The name of Guatemala COMES from Nahuatl which a language spoken by the Aztec, and the word is "Quauhtlemallan" which means "place of many trees". It happened after the Spanish conquested the Aztec, they brought with them Aztec soldiers to help them conquest the place known today as Guatemala. Since the Spanish had no idea how this place was called, they relied on what the soldiers speaking Nahuatl said and that's where the name of Guatemala comes from. In the other hand, the remaining "Mayan" have a name for thier own cities in each one of their language since they were divided by STATES which at the same time have their own goverment. Now, the host talks about many places having the end of "TENANGO", that also is Nahuatl. Please make sure you have the right facts and info to share. From someone who is a Mayan, who speaks Mayan Q'eqchi' and who works on research about history and mayan language development.
This is excellent. The narrator is energetic and really engages the audience. Finally, a useful geography video that holds students' interest. Thank you for doing this :)
the Federate Republic of Central America reminds me of the Gran Colombia (which were actually neighbours for a short time). One can only wonder what could have been if those states remained together. Also Miguel Angel Asturias was the second latin american and the third in the Americas to have won the Nobel Prize of Literature, and yes, he's an amazing writer and you should definetly check some of his novels!. I was anxiously waiting that he be mentioned since he's one of my favorite writers.
Gary Loor The closest thing to that is Brazil, due to the empire efforts on creating a huge empire all the separation moves (excluding Uruguay) were stopped really quickly.
As a Guatemalan American with dual citizenship, this video was amazing to watch. It made me feel so proud of my country and the majestic history of my Mayan people. I'm sharing this video with all of my friends and family!!

How can you pronounce correctly "Guatemala" but no "Antigua"??
It may be because in English the "Antigua" in Antigua and Barbuda is often pronounced without the U
because the gringos can't pronounce two or three vowels together. LIke for example "Reunion or Retauleu"
@@davidjoura644 Retalhuleu*
@@DJV_TF Santiaguito*, it's without the "diéresis"
@@Smgs-ue7tj Thank you teacher!!
Driving from South to North America is impossible due to the Darién gap.
Sam Vissers set up some ramps and do a sick jump
This guy gets it.
nothing is really impossible until you try
Sam Vissers someone did it. It took like two years, but it happened.
Sam Vissers it was done once. but it took a long time to pass the gap.
when you finally see an american video talking about Oscar Isaac as Guatemalan first 😍
Not fully accurate though. He was only born there and moved to tthe US at a very young age. Also, he is half Cuban, and identifies with his Cuban side more (he grew up in Miami, so makes sense).
Exactly
"Bro did you see the new Fast and Furious?"

your picture for guatemala city is actually a picture of "Antigua", Guatemala...
at 1 minute the picture you used for Guatemala City is actually a picture of Antigua, Guatemala, about an hour away by car.
This is a brilliant video. Thanks
Gary Loor
The closest thing to that is Brazil, due to the empire efforts on creating a huge empire all the separation moves (excluding Uruguay) were stopped really quickly.
Saludos desde El Salvador, ❤

Awesome video I loved it I haven't been home in 8 years, you only forgot to mention about all the Germans that moved there that's why we have a bit of German influence and some German holidays are celebrated in the capital and German owned businesses
Which German holidays? 🤔
German holidays .??
I am German, but im not sure that we even have any.
Besides Oktoberfest I guess, but other than that?
indeed, there's very few national holidays across europe except for religiously influenced ones from christianity, but those aren't 'german holidays'
ThePompf a town called zacapa was actually settled by Germans or is a town of Germans.
