Fun fact, please read because this is such an interesting story: Did you know that Japan and tiny Montenegro had a 100-year war? On paper, at least. When Russia and Japan went to war in 1904, Montenegro, as Russia's ally, declared war on Japan. Rumor has it the Japanese were not able to locate Montenegro on a map, and they gave up on invading the country. Basically, Montenegro provided one unit to be placed under the command of Russia. The tradition was that one person - the bravest on both sides (Russia and Japan) had to fight his counterpart. Russians were silent, and this huge, tall guy volunteered to fight for Russia. His name was Alexander Lexa Saichich, he was a Serb from Montenegro, afraid of no one. He beat the Japanese warrior... When the peace was signed between Russia and Japan, somehow everyone forgot that Montenegro and Japan were - officially, on paper - still at war. And so that remained for the next hundred years. In 2006, when Montenegro became independent from Yugoslavia/the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, Akiko Yamanaka came to Montenegro. The two countries finally ended a war that lasted for 102 years and established full diplomatic relations. Amazing story from Balkan history.

@@AlexM-t6h @KabalFromMK9 - Yes, it is similar. And for the context of Berwick-Upon-Tweed, it's a city in Scotland that is directly on the border with England and has switched countries several times because of border changes. Anyway, the United Kingdom went to war with the Russian Empire at one point and in the official declaration, it mentioned England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland - and to avoid confusion - Berwick-Upon-Tweed. After the war ended, treaties were signed ending the war for England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, but forgot to mention Berwick-Upon-Tweed. Thus, it remained "at war" with Russia for like 100 years or something.

Reminds me when I was learning about the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms in law class, because I’m a Canadian, and in the sections on language rights, there’s multiples clause specifically singling out New Brunswick to be bilingual. And guess what, that wasn’t in the original version of it, New Brunswick was so dedicated to bilingualism they asked all the other provinces and territories to enshrine it in the Charter.
So that’s how I got the phrase: “Especially in New Brunswick”

This comment is great for all to learn some quirks on Vatican City 🇻🇦.
    1) Vatican is NOT a UN country, so they are not part of the legendary country series because they didn't want to (they happily like the UN observer status). You would think Vatican would easily gain UN member state status but the People's Republic of China (or just China) do not recognise Vatican and will veto their application unless they agree to cut all diplomatic relations with Taiwan.
    2) Since China doesn't recognize Vatican, in their terms Vatican is not the smallest country in terms of size and population.
    3) This is a fact which I stumbled upon a week ago when researching Sovereign Military Order of Malta. It is a Christian Order with 0 territory which has diplomatic relations with 100+ countries but most doesn't recognise them as a country. However, San Marino somehow recognizes them as a country so San Marino thinks the smallest country in the world is an Order with no territory 😂😂

This is just from my own perspective, but I believe Taiwan and the region of Kosovo are part of Western hypocrisy. I'm strongly against the invasion of Ukraine and any outcome than a Russian defeat would be unacceptable. With that said, I also understand the view point of the Kremlin, when they claim how the Western allies only claim foul when it's against their interest, when in reality, what Russia did, is basically what the Western allies and especially America, has done for decades.
There's a good reason why Ukraine does not recognize the region of Kosovo as independent, because by doing that, they would pretty much allow Crimea and most of the Donbas region to become part of Russia.

I had no idea that the Sovereign Military Order of Malta was still a thing! I lived on St. Croix for a couple of years, which was one of four Caribbean islands that was actually colonized by the Knights Hospitaller of Malta between 1651 and 1665. St. Croix has had SEVEN western colonizers in its history, and there are several places on the island where you can see all seven of those flags flying, including the Knights of Malta!

Just a quick note on Cyprus: Turkey DOES recognize Cyprus, sort of. It recognizes that it is a nation that exists, it conducts trade and diplomacy with them and such, but it doesn't recognize it as the "Republic of Cyprus" with a rightful claim over North Cyprus. Official sources refer to Cyprus as the "Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus" and only recognizes their claims over the southern half of the island.

They famously started a bunch of hospitals and treated both christians and non christians equally as patients.
Thats how they got the name "hospitaliers"
They also did other charity work like feeding the poor and funding public institutions or housing for homeless etc.

Ossetians did not migrate from Iran. Ossetians are linguistic descendants of Alans - steppe-nomadic ethnic group who originally lived in what is now Russia and Ukraine. Alans were relatives (descendants?) of Scythians and Sarmatians and in the 1st millenia they migrated to the south and settled Northern Caucasus where they mixed with Caucasian peoples. Saying "Ossetians migrated from Iran" is the same thing as saying "Italians migrated from Romania". Alan language (as well as its descendants including Ossetian) belongs to Iranian language branch because it is one of the descendants of Proto-Iranic language which was spoken very far away from the territory of modern Iran. Some of Iranic tribes settled Central Asia and later Middle East where Ancient Persian civilisation was born. Some of them (like Alans) remained in what is now Russia and Ukraine and later settled other European territories and Caucasus.
It's interesting that the map you showed on 6:57 is pretty accurate but what you said is totally contradictory to that.
