Absolutely disagree, I live in this country and have been mugged many times by both civilian and police members. Don't generalize based on you spending a fucking weekend here.
@@Furitenma Of course you can get mugged, it can happen to anyone, including me, but that doesn't mean it's normal and you shouldn't visit Guatemala City. Something like this can happen to you anywhere, in the United States they kill even in schools and that does not mean that if you go to the United States, they will surely kill you. There are good and bad sides to every major city. Foreign visitors to the country of Guatemala often used to focus only on the bad aspects of Guatemala City, but did not say much about the good side of the city. Even today, many travelers still overlook Guatemala City and tend to skip it. There are those who do not even want to see the nicer parts of a mostly safe city, and avoid it altogether. So, they end up missing out on a much more complete travel experience. In all of Guatemala, there is a lot more to do and see than meets the eye at first. Some do not even want to give Guatemala City the benefit of the doubt, because of their own bias and personal fears. In realty, GC is a much better, cleaner and safer place than many imagine it to be. Some travelers are so afraid that they do not even want to explore the nicer better parts of town. I live in Guatemala City and this is a great video! 🙌 I've been filming in some of these same places and will start sharing long form videos soon. Like you said, inside the market in the historic city center doesn't feel dangerous. Maybe what the woman meant was that it's dangerous right there at the entrance because my husband who is Guatemalan always tells me that inside the market is safe. However, there are theories waiting outside. 😳 I can't believe you guys walked around zone 1 with a big camera ! I showers use my GoPro because I am afraid of getting robbed. 😂
So glad you enjoyed the video! Yeah the market was very cool and much safer than we thought. We didn't have any issues with the camera although we were ALWAYS on the move so we never stayed in one spot for too long. We think that really helps. Good luck with you videos too!

Hello!! Like any country, there are places that are not recommended. But in general, Guatemala City welcomes the tourist, with open arms. For example, the beautiful video that you two made. I congratulate you for showing the reality; We are a country that is on the international list, as the countries with the happiest population.
Hello, guys, I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Guatemala City!! Like any city in the world, there is good and bad cannot judge until you live it. What I find out about Guatemala City is that the locals tend to exaggerate what really goes on, the Mercado Central es a very safe place. There are a few world-class malls in Guatemala City and Cayala. I have never been to Cayala, but it looks impressive.
So glad to hear you enjoyed the video and what we shared about the city. We feel really lucky to be able to visit and share an often skipped place with our audience :)
We will visit with our kids in December. I don’t understand why skip the capital. I have a huge list of things to do in Guatemala City. I can’t wait! Thanks for the video!
Great blogs!!!! I am from Guatemala 🇬🇹 but live in California. I visit Guatemala at least once a year. Your videos really show true Guatemala. 🇬🇹 thank you for visiting the city and showing that it is safe.
im Glad everything went well for you guys in my home country, I love your video and hope see you guys back again soon with more great content like this.
As a resident of Mexico, I sometimes wonder about visiting Guatamala. Your videos have shown me I should visit. Though I must admit I am a little surprised at the high cost of your eating out.
I am guatemalan and I don't get it why that woman's said that the central market is dangerous. I know many sellers and with totally confidence I can confirm that is pretty safe. The market has its own security system, videocamara, and policeman. All the cities around the globe has problems and it's wise to be careful in any place, but that market isn't in excessive dangerous. I always feel pretty safe because it is. Good video friends, hope you enjoyed your trip for Guatemala, and I so sorry about the dengue, we have a kind epidemic right now, try to use anti mosquito sprays.
GUYS, I DONT KNOW IF YOU STILL IN GUATE. BUT THE CITY HAS AN INFINITE ARRAY OF RESTSURANTS AND SPECIFIC FOREIGN COMMUNITIES. LIKE KOREA TOWN. YES THERE IS ONE, SPAIN COMMUNITY THAT HAS LOCALS IN THE CITY AND ANTIGUA, THE GERMAN COMMUNITY, THAT HAVE THEIR OWN BAKERIES AND RESTAURANTS, THE GRINGO COMMUNITY, ETC. IT IS A GREAT CITY, WHAT YALL SAW IS JUST A LITTLE BIT OF THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. YALL NEED AT LEAST ONE MONTH TO DISCOVER THE TREASURES OF THIS CITY.
@@missionswithserena YALL CAN VISIT EL PUEBLITO RAFAEL CAMPESTRE, COLOMBIAN RESTAURANT, WITH AWESOMEST VIEW TO LAKE AMATITLAN. WORTH THE VISIT. THE PARKING LOT IS ON THE SIDE OF THE RESTAURANT
You should have showed small video portions of Avenida Reforma in zone 10 and bulevar Las Américas on zone 13 and 14…!!! And parque Berlin at the end of Blvd Las Americas…. It’s good sightseeing..!!! Guatemala City on the overall, is safe..! Many Guatemalans are very negative when it comes to the city..!!!! It’s a shame!!!
thank you for showing the reality of this beautiful country! people there are very warm and kind, I live in Baltimore Maryland and let me tell you that is safer in Guatemala city than Baltimore city!!
Thank you so much! It's not always fun to be sick while on the road but we're glad we had a comfortable spot to rest and take our time before continuing on exploring :)
Besides some topics regarding being a 95 % vegan / 5 % vegatarian nowadays, a very good video, which motivated me to perhaps go there myself somehow somewhen as a travel-addicted person ;-) thanks
Awesome video I feel very represented! I live in ciudad de cayala and I unfortunately have to agree with you that a lot of the money does go there. But wow it’s my favorite place ever!
*Nicole and Mico* People who think that they should not visit Guatemala 🇬🇹 City, and its Historic Center. They are people who lived many years ago. The city has changed for the better since a Mayor made an order and the inhabitants have contributed with the authorities to maintain levels of order and security. Guatemala City is one of the best urbanized cities in Latin America. It is very green, with a lot of flora. It is one of the friendliest to nature and its super friendly inhabitants. 😉 😇👋🏽
We really enjoyed our time there and think it deserves more credit. Hopefully more people put the city on their list to visit when seeing Guatemala. Thanks for your comment! :)
This Blog brought Joy to my eyes , thanks for visiting Guatemala it's a beautiful country full of thousands of things to eat .. food is cheap and yummie. ❤
You guys have a great energy. Thank your this video. I have never made videos for YT, but i may start one day. I am headed for Nicaragua, hopefully permanently, and the same issues are to be seen there..'Don't go here, don't go there..." "This dangerous..." etc. I will be spending actually more time than I originally intended, but i will be using public transport as well as being on foot a lot. I think the safety reviews are often totally over. I would like to see a YTer put together a list of places they visited (such as you are doing in GUA) and give an honest comparison between reviews and experience on the ground. Since you are actually giving place a chance, maybe you should consider doing something like that in one separate video...? GREAT VID!
I am from Costa Rica but I do have a profound love for Guatemala, I will be there for the fourth time in January 2025 and I already know I am gonna be back again after that. One thing that I really appreciate from tourists when they come to Central America is when they do try to learn our language, it doesn't have to be perfect, just the fact that they try it's always really welcomed. Stumbled upon this video and I am loving the vibe.
I can't believe I didn't know you guys visited! (By the way, I think the mall you went to was Oakland mall if I'm not mistaken, and the dude with the big feet was is Cayalá!)
14:47 You did a great choice visiting the market in zone 1, and having lived much there. It’s such 14:47 a great place! When some people from the U.S. with chronic decreases come to Guatemala for a few months their medical conditions improve and the only main difference is the food. Guatemalan meat and produce is natural, almost always free from pesticides & herbicides, and non-GMO, ie, in its simplicity it’s very good quality.
Im so glad you enjoyed Guatemala! And our food, our traditions, Guatemala is a great place and i am so glad you broke the humors ❤ I am so proud of my country, and if you haven't visited Guatemala yet don't make humors about it! 🇬🇹❤
The reason you see so many people with little Caesars boxes is because the pizza is so cheap. They even recently launched a campaign highlighting the fact that their pizza is one of the few things that has had the same price for over a decade. It's not because it's particularly good or it's people's favorite
As a Bilingual (C2) Guatemalan, it's always fun to approach gringos in their language. They always get confused at first hahaha. Nice video though, stay safe all the time though, this country is not bad as it seems, nor as perfect as other travelers make it out to be. Balance and awareness are the key to live here.
¡Jajaja, gracias!
There is a lot of bad press and talkative, envious people who like to speak badly of the city and its inhabitants. This is neither fair nor objective. Many people comment and pass judgment without knowing anything.
Hey there! Thank you for visiting, but no worries, Not dangerous at all, but it’s just common cense, don’t flash your valuables all over the place especially late at night, it used to be like 20 years ago but not anymore, we have police all over, the people that told you those things were just trying to protect you if in case it happened so you didn’t have a bitter experience about Guatemala, the No but what if scenario. Anyway, Guatemala is awesome and we love people from other countries visiting us, tourists from all over the world are welcome, we are happy you took of your time and money to come, I’m pretty confident to say you did not experience any unfortunate situation nor saw anything worrisome or shady while you visited. Cheers!
Some people just act so hyperbole, but no worries Guatemala it’s just a a beautiful country just like others country of course with danger but not like that… hope you guys enjoy it, you also visited some of the most exclusive in the city I’m glad about it.
As an actual Guatemala citizen I can tell how beautiful Guatemala is, not only the Capital but a lot of the other places like La Antigua, Huehuetenango, Tikal, the Amatitlán Lake... so yeah. Of course it's really dangerous but one is able to take precautions. Also there are some places where you can go camping like Finca El Amate
Hopefully more people will watch your videos and they will visit Guatemala, I think that you guys do more to expand tourism than the INGUAT (National Tourism Agency) that does not promote the city as they should. There are museums, cultural centers, shopping malls even Mayan ruins within the city and sometimes I feel that the entrance fees to some of these locations should charge a more reasonable entrance fee which sometimes can be more than double for tourists. Wish you a good stay in Guatemala. As far as safety the best advise can be your common sense, I was pick pocketed in Europe so this is a worldwide advise.
Guatemala City is awesome. My family is from there and everytime I go visit its a total vibe. Yes there is problems but as long as you have your witz about you you should be fine. Cayala, Zona 10, la carretera del el Salvador are my recommendations. Plus you can't leave Guatemala without eating their KFC Pollo Campero!
Well done! (I’m sure you wouldn’t mind a thief taking your camera, as long as they inherit and perform all the editing work that comes along with it! 😁)
Guatemala city and the whole country are underrated! Guatemala city alone you can visit zona 14, 15, 10, 9 and zona 4, visit the National theater also visit Irtra and the giant Guatemala map. etc.. Salu2!
I live in Guatemala City. I'm glad that you guys had a great time, but please do not disregard those warnings, ever. This city is actually very dangerous if you don't know your way around, especially if you go alone. You can film at the 6th avenue in Zone 1 without worrying too much about anything, but if you were to do the same just a few blocks away, on the 4th avenue, that would have been a completly different story. Not to mention places like "Barrio Gerona" (also located in Zone 1), which are far more dangerous. If you stick to the tourist places, where there are a lot of stores and businesses, then you can feel quite safe. But do not think that this is the standard for the rest of the city. Even though there are some safe places, they are scarce. So, in summary, it is a very dangerous city, yes; but it's not like a war zone or anything like that. As long as you move only around malls and other tourist places, and follow some very basic precaution rules (the ones you would have in any city of the world), you should be okay.
Thank you for the great advice. We were careful to go to “tourist approved zones” and had a great experience in those areas, but it’s very good for travelers to know to stay to those specific sections of the city to be safe 🙏
Hello, Guatemala city was recognized for second time in 2019 as the city more green of iberoaméric, Oakland Place it's the more Big and modern of Central América, in the last five years in city Guatemala are built more 125 news buildings, minimun cost for apartament $97000 dollars in zone 10, this capital it's more Big, modern, cosmopolitan, populated, in Central América.
I dont know why those women told you that the inside of the central market is dangerous, there are pickpockets but only when the place is packed like for Christmas that the place is so full that you can't tell when they pick your pocket but regularly is a fairly safe place
I love Guatemala, I’m not a fan of the city, too much traffic and there isn’t a huge draw for me there. I prefer different states, my favorite is Reu. The water park, and theme park are excellent! Also, that’s where I live and my family too.
I do tours in Guatemala City and can tell you its safer than most of the cities in USA 😂, our city is so green and beautiful, of course you visit 1% of it and in this video you show the most tourist places, so its very very safe trust me.
NO NOT DENGUE there were lemon grass candles, sprays, everything lemon grass everywhere that season, i got dengue, horrid, felt like dying. but honestly antigua is beautiful :)
Lamentable. Gente trabajadora y honrada . Welcome
Everything was fine except that they were charged more for that lunch at the market because you were tourists. Those two lunches should not have been more than $8.00 dollars, that is, no more than about Q60. They were charged double. Next time, try to see the menu and prices so you don't get overcharged. And if they don't show you the menu, go to another restaurant or ask the locals.
See for yourself. It is better and safer than many imagine it to be. Just know what parts to go to, and what parts to avoid. Common sense. There is a lot more to do and see than you might think.

So many places to visit! We'll have to tackle it next time we're in the city :)
Where are all these? I'm in Guatemala City currently 🥺

You guys seem so sweet! So happy you are enjoying my country, also thank you for buying locally ❤
Thank you!!
There's just too much to see! We'll have to get to those other attractions next time.
Glad to see u in Guatemala 🇬🇹
We love it here 😊
thank you for showing the reality of this beautiful country! people there are very warm and kind, I live in Baltimore Maryland and let me tell you that is safer in Guatemala city than Baltimore city!!
Nicole, I'm glad to see ur feeling much better. It must be scary to get sick abroad. Safe travels friends. Much love from Colorado USA ❤
Glad you enjoyed!
inside the market it is safe, people are exaggerated. Insecurity in Guatemala City exists but people exaggerate it
Yes we feel the same way too. Glad you enjoyed the video!
This Blog brought Joy to my eyes , thanks for visiting Guatemala it's a beautiful country full of thousands of things to eat .. food is cheap and yummie. ❤
We have really loved the food in Guatemala. I (Nicole) am a soup lover, and the soups in Guatemala are next level!
@@nicoleandmico 🥹 new sub!
Thanks for joining us! We’ve got lots more of Guatemala to share 😁
The drone footage is steller, and what you captured was fantastic.
Thank you 😊😊 Mico is amazing with the drone. I love the shots he gets
14:47
You did a great choice visiting the market in zone 1, and having lived much there.
The food is delicious! We totally agree.
Im so glad you enjoyed Guatemala! And our food, our traditions, Guatemala is a great place and i am so glad you broke the humors ❤
I am so proud of my country, and if you haven't visited Guatemala yet don't make humors about it! 🇬🇹❤
Thank you for this video! You are a very sweet and amazing couple! Guatemala is a wonderful country 🥰
Thanks! We have come to really love Guatemala
Great Video 👍🏻
Thank you!
I like your videos in Guatemala and I'm glad you have a good time. 👍👍👍10/10
In two months I'm going there to visit family but for only 5 days
Awesome! We hope you have an awesome time
Bien venidos a Guatemala disfruten
I recommend staying at NARAMA for your Airbnb. Its behind the airport. Safe and clean area.
I'm Guatemalan, and I've also made my way around the world, and the advice the women gave right before you went into the market was uncalled for.
wow really? We did feel pretty safe when we got inside. Very interesting they said all that then.
La Torre del Reformados is a little replica of the Eifel Tower in France, it's a gift from France to Guatemala.
You haved blessing time in Guatemala. You will welcome peoples are nice and friendly. 😊👏😘❤
I live on Guatemala City and it’s really nice and save
Did you guys try the zip line at cayala
The reason you see so many people with little Caesars boxes is because the pizza is so cheap. They even recently launched a campaign highlighting the fact that their pizza is one of the few things that has had the same price for over a decade. It's not because it's particularly good or it's people's favorite
Totally! That’s the reason we’ve always loved little Caesars too. It’s still so affordable while everything else is hard to keep up with. Yum!
As a Bilingual (C2) Guatemalan, it's always fun to approach gringos in their language. They always get confused at first hahaha. Nice video though, stay safe all the time though, this country is not bad as it seems, nor as perfect as other travelers make it out to be. Balance and awareness are the key to live here.
nicer than Okland mall is Miraflores in the Roosevelt, not that confusing and very cool. with a lot of shops.
Loved your video!
Thank you!!
No somos ladrones aquí en Guatemala. Los políticos si.😅😅 Jajaja. Bienvenidos. La próxima visita museos. Zoológico. Etc
Cheers!
im half guatemalan, and it brings me joy that people enjoy the country
Great video ❤
Thank you!!
Thank You for visiting Guatemala
Some people just act so hyperbole, but no worries Guatemala it’s just a a beautiful country just like others country of course with danger but not like that… hope you guys enjoy it, you also visited some of the most exclusive in the city I’m glad about it.
Which drone are you guys using?
Welcome to Guatemala always, thanks you for the video.
Been living here for awhile. I love Guatemala and I feel very safe being here.
You should totally visit IRTRA de Reu or irtra de petapa
What district did you stay in?
Always welcome to Guatemala 🇬🇹 worthy to visit eat live and eat all great at reasonable prices.
Absolutely! In fact, we might welcome it 😂
Guatemala city and the whole country are underrated!
Wow we never knew that. Definitely a metropolitan feel in Guatemala City. Can't wait to visit again!
I prefer the taste of Domino’s Pizza but we’re poor and Little Ceasar’s is the most affordable pizza chain restaurant 😂
You should visit quetzaltenango next ❤ a state/departamento from Guatemala
Next time go inside the palacio de la cultura (president palace) it has great murals the art inside is fantastic
We will!
I do tours in Guatemala City and can tell you its safer than most of the cities in USA 😂, our city is so green and beautiful, of course you visit 1% of it and in this video you show the most tourist places, so its very very safe trust me.
Yo soy de Guatemala 🇬🇹 viva guatemala 🇬🇹
NO NOT DENGUE
there were lemon grass candles, sprays, everything lemon grass everywhere that season, i got dengue, horrid, felt like dying.
but honestly antigua is beautiful :)
Lamentable. Gente trabajadora y honrada . Welcome
Nosotros estamos totalmente de acuerdo!
There is a lot more to do and see than you might think.
que bueno que visitaron mi natal cayala
