I pre-ordered a remarkable before the first one even came out, and while it is a great writing device, I found myself rarely ever using it. Why? Because it's almost impossible to find anything once it's in there! It's like a black hole for your thoughts. For example, say you have 50 notebooks, each with 50 pages of notes from different meetings, brainstorm sessions, etc. Now suppose you remember discussing something at a meeting a while back, but you can't remember exactly when it was or where the note is. Well, good luck ever finding it! Or suppose you're in the middle of a meeting and you star something in your notes to remind yourself to do a task later or to go back and think about something again because it might relate to something else you're working on. Again, good luck with that! You'll have to actively remember to go back and find that scribble because there's no built-in way to make it stand out or to be reminded of it. Now, compare that to the Supernote, which has the star recognition feature, the ability to make titles and keywords within a note, etc. Seeing those features was a GAME CHANGER for me and made me realize I didn't have to suffer with the remarkable's pathetic software anymore. To be fair, remarkable DID finally give us tags in the most recent update-albeit years after launch, which is pretty ridiculous-but that's basically it, as far as organization and re-discovery go.
Another gripe about the remarkable is how big a pain in the butt it is to use custom templates. You either have to use third-party software or root into the device yourself to add the necessary files, alter the templates json, etc. And even if you go through all that, custom templates usually get nerfed every time the remarkable has an update! Again, compare that to the Supernote, which makes the process of adding custom templates incredibly simple. At the end of the day, the remarkable's feature set is just way too basic and limiting given the price point. I don't plan to buy another one in the future unless there are some huge improvements in these areas.
I can totally understand. When i started with the supernote within a week or two I started having same issue to many folders and i wasn't using the tags. Once I started w/ tag much easier.
Nice honest update! I don’t see any UI sluggishness in my A6X. I rely on folders, consistent keywords and dates in titles. Never had a frustration or lag finding a recent or archived doc. Use of Keyword can be a great friend. I also have an RM1 and my A6X still wins out overall
I have an A5, I only use it to read pdfs and write notes, even the older model works great still and its built like a tank😂 I left mine on the roof of the car and it fell off at 15mph right onto the corner and there's only a slight chip on the plastic, case, pen, and function all still really good
Good review. Thank you. Note to self: Don't place a reflecting surface in the perfect angle to reflect light into the camera :-). I'm considering this device these days after Remarkable2 became a subscription based device for syncing and storage.
Same. And SN is so much cheaper than RM2. Buying a eInk notebook is to reduce buying more. Rm2 did reduce papers. But end up monthly need to pay extra, this loses the main purpose. SN allows pdf and png as templates. Which is better.
An update should be coming in the next few days which increases UI speed and pen latency. They also have a pencil tool on the roadmap, which should be what you are looking for in regards of shading but i'm not sure when this update will drop, probably sometime next year.
Good review. Thanks! I would say that the price is a little higher then the Remarkable but with the Remarkable you have to buy there monthly connect program that’s $4-$8 a month that will eventually add up and it turns out to be more expensive. 🙂
Maybe my expectations were little different coming from the Samsung note devices, when I sketch on those you can shade using pressure. On this one it does thin as you lift are but shade doesn't change color.
Good review video. I’m in the market and this dedicated video was helpful. I like the pros and cons format. As I research the RM2, your pros (service and communication with customer base) for Supernote stand out.
Very useful video. I have a friend with a reMarkable, and I liked it a lot, but now that I have a Supernote, I can say the writing experience is superior for me on the Supernote. But looking around my desk, all I see are pens, no pencils. reMarkable definitely has a pencil-ish feel. I would say the UI is more responsive, in general, on the reMarkable. But I think Ratta may be able to fix this, if they ever release this next firmware.
He’s kinda were I am except wanting to try the supernote. I’ve used the boox note air 2 & am pretty sure it’s prob the best but the supernotes’ supposed pen feel & more professional look I like a lot. Unfortunately, Supernotes ship times literally don’t exist at the moment so..eh
I have a Remarkable 2 and thinking of switching to Supernote because of tabs, tags, and the ability to document search on tags. Also, Supernote has 32GB of memory vs. the Remarkable 2. Let me know if you want to switch devices lol.
Joshua, I just received my SNA5X. Search is very good (and a value point v. RM2). You can search across the entire device or within notebooks. Also, you can create keywords, titles, and stars and search those!
hello i have a question Which is the best device for you among these three devices in terms of reading pdf books and writing feel? Super Note A6, Note 2, Nova Air 2
@@esg499279 lol like the text conversion? It is suppose to be the only reason people prefer these devices imo...and RM2 made it subscription based. It is a deal breaker for me.
I think they don't use a better CPU because that would decrease the battery life. I could be very wrong though, just what I thought off the top of my head. Good video though! I'm considering buying one myself.
Yep. And I hope they maintain that laser focus. I wouldn't want them to start adding things app stores or backlights...it's digital paper and that's all it ought to be. Cheers
@@hpal Then just get a remarkable my guy. All respect but the “keep it simple crowd” kinda rubs me the wrong way. Unless the price is going to decrease by no means should they not add features.
@@RandoRaf You should have evaluated the processor prior to purchase. Criticizing it after you purchased is you decision problem, not the Supernote's problem. In the last three weeks I have had a Boox Note Air 2, a Remarkable 2 and Supernote A5x. The support for the Note Air 2 was terrible (email based and they don't respond for days) so I sent it back. The subscription, included in the purchase price for the first year, was a turn off. The Supernote is head and shoulders above both without a doubt.
No I was getting close to pulling trigger but then Supernote lauched a nice big update and remarkable added subscription model. I've been really happy w/ the Supernote so I haven't even looked whats new out there lately.
@@RandoRaf I am still hesitating between te two. I like the form factor, whiter display and most importantly the very purist interface on the Remarkable but the lack of any table of contents features and easy erasing tool is holding me a bit back. The Supernote has those but the toolbar really looks cluttered and distracting.
Another drawback are the customs and import taxes, another 120 euro's in the EU. That's 600 euro's and Ratta is unable to deliver the product (preorder).
It's the holidays, and they didn't even need the black Friday sale to deplete the storage. Kinda says alot that they will already be shipping again in January.
I write daily in a paper journal and I read and make alot of handwritten notes for my work, so what I really want to know if the handwriting to text converts well - because the main thing is for my notes to not remain in handwriting but to convert into word/text docs so I can use my notes to create ebooks. Can anyone advise if Supernote is good for this? I was originally looking at Remarkable 2 but with Kindle and email integration and potentially G-Drive in the Future, I'm definitely leaning towards Supernote A5X, I just want to be sure before I purchase - any advice?
Yes It was hard to justify at first. I have samsung tab s7+ which is powerhouse and it was same price. But I can tell you its 2 different devices. When it comes to writing, this blows away every device I have tried.
so i have been using it for like 3 days and I am curious if we can do the screen mirroring, i bought this for that and yaaa apparently it cant do that yet!

Are you still keen to try the remarkable now that they have introduced a subscription model?
Yea total deal breaker. Id consider if it brought something to the table but its charging for basic things. NO chance in Hell i'll get it now.
The subscription is not necessary for the remarkable. You are not forced into it. It’s plenty functional without it.

Price: e-ink will be more expensive. It's a pricier technology.
