This was surprisingly informative. I've watched a few videos on this tablet and this has been the one that gave the best attention to each of the pens. I say surprisingly because I didn't expect to learn that the HOM pen won't be a good fit for me. I never noticed that texture area right where I would grip. Glad I saw this or I might have been disappointed with my choice. Most appreciated.

Thanks for this. Very informative. I just got the standard pen (at the time, had no info on why to spend more) and am really glad I did because I do not choke up on my pen nib like you do. I hold it further back, and it appears that the standard pen is designed for that grip. For you it felt unbalanced, but I think that's with your closer hold. For me, holding it just behind the start of the barrel, it sits gently and perfectly balanced when released.
I love that both grip types have been accommodated. I wish they would use that in their description.

I like the way you emphasized the Lamy pen and then suddenly turned against it not being your favorite. I did not see that coming since I was expecting the Lamy to be the best amongst them. It turned out that other people think Heart & Metal was still the best as well.

I love my HOM2 and it's one of the main reasons I chose the A5X over a Boox device. I ordered both at the same time, but I just couldn't get over the desire for the fine point ceramic nib of the HOM2. I'd love an eraser, but with the easy two-finger erasing - I just didn't see that as reason enough to not use the pen I prefer everyday. Thanks for the vid - will have to check out to see if you ever did one on the HOM2 when it came out.

Love my A5X and HOM pen. Your reviews helped me narrow because of using my device for business meetings. Just returned the RM2, one reason and to help others... the RM2 writing lines did not do well with my small writing. I like .5 pens and to get that on RM2, I had to use their thinner line and it shows too light onscreen to be usable. A5X fine line is perfect for the way I wrote. IMHO : )

Excellent review, CPO. You covered all of the features and attributes of the three pens extensively, including the writing experiences. Just what I needed to know. These styluses are another reason to love Supernote.
Just one thing I’m curious about - spoiler alert - I assume the HOM pen is also your favourite for drawing, but what about marking up documents where you’d use a stylus to highlight text rather than write? ... Would Lamy’s “gliding over the paper” be better here than HOM’s “digging into the paper” sensation?
Whatever the case, it’s good to see one manufacturer offering high quality pens (plural) that deliver different benefits to different users.

Something that not many people talk about on any of these e-ink devices is security. I know a few have a fingerprint scanner to unlock the device and I know most have a PIN or password to unlock too.
That’s about as far as it goes. Is it possible to lock individual notes? Is it possible to disable syncing notes to cloud so they are not compromised? Are notes encrypted on device so that they are protected from malware and other malicious code or hacks?

if you care so much about privacy, this would logically conclude that you know a lot about tech and software and computers. and if you do, then it won't be a problem to you. because you can modify the entire (android) device just the way you like it. write your own scripts and codes. sideload your own apolications. make your own rules. modify the software.
the things you mentioned as privacy concerns are some very basic easy things that anybody literate in tech can set up easily themselves.

I would describe the sensation of writing with a nice fountain pen as the movement and line making takes no effort but it also stops as soon as you want it too.
I feel like the heart of metal/default pen give not the feeling of a fountain pen but fulfill a similar consistency.

Interesting. Perhaps the Lamy would write better with a different nib? But if you're like me, you'd rather not bother. I've had my 5X for a couple weeks now, and I've tried three pens so far: the base level, the Staedtler Noris Jumbo, and the pen from my Galaxy Tab S7. Like you and the Lamy, I love the erase button on the S7 pen, but, while not bad, it's my least favorite "grip feel." The thin shaft is rounded, but with one flattened side. It also has a metallic feel. The nib is on the soft side, and of course will wear out. Writing with the S7 pen is OK. The Jumbo has a thin triangular shaft that is a bit pliable, so it feels pretty good to grip. The nib is fine tipped and more firm than the S7 pen, and will wear out. Writing feel is good. Cpo covered the base Ratta pen, which of course, like the HoM, will never require a nib replacement. Writing feel is also good. I'd rank the base pen first overall and the Jumbo a close second. I'm still thinking about ordering the HoM though, as that's the only fully rounded shaft. And it's a bit thicker than the other three I have.

How is the contact of these pens with the screen. Is the does the stardust have a felt. In? Does writing feel slippery, or does it feel sticky, or neither. I have the HoM, which feels slippery using the fine liner pen, but less so with the ballpoint (unfortunately, the pressure sensitivity of this pen results in uneven script, though the resistance is good£. Writing with my Llamy (which I bought elsewhere) feels slippery, but when I switch the nib to a remarkable nib or Wacom one nib, they feel and sound ‘sticky’ to write with.

100% agree with him. The LAMY POM nib and Supernote screen does not produce a good writing experience. The POM nib is too thick and too slippery. The tablet is really made to work with the ceramic nibs.
Ratta also doesn't allow pen exchanges. So choose wisely.
