A3's keybind system is truly underrated, I hope it returns. The animations and effects are totally worth the hype, excited to see what the big modders do with that level of detail. Glad to see you posting, best of luck with your training. Enjoy your break but do post more!
I'd actually prefer if they looked at DCS key binding and create a hybrid. A3's keybind system is self limiting, especially when you get into binding up a HOTAS
They had a rough start with the reforger, but it just keeps improving. These helicopters look incredible (as well as the rest of the game) and the sounds are amazing. Great stuff!
The fact joystick support hasn't been added yet is absolutely criminal! It looks so good and well simulated, but i can't give it a proper spin without using my joystick.

You can use a stick with the game just now, I’ve been experimenting with a small Xbox emulator app called X360ce, you can basically fool your pc into thinking your stick is a controller, if you download it it’s pretty straightforward to configure, the stick control is actually pretty nice. The downside is the collective isn’t analogue it’s either up or down or nothing but it’s certainly better than keyboard for the stick flight vets. I plan on doing a small vid tutorial to set it up soon although it’s pretty straightforward to be honest.

As someone rightly pointed out, I was using incendiary rounds from the Humvee’s HMG..! Apologies for these oversights guys. The video took a long time to make, and so I sometimes miss things, but thanks to you all for pointing them out.
@@n_o_t_a_c_e5933You just start the Track IR software before you start Reforger and it will automatically detect it in game. But currently there is no official profile for Reforger, meaning the controls are not setup properly and it’s extremely sensitive.
Used to fly a ton in A2 & A3, I love the new Heli's and how they function in Reforger, just the downside is the lack of customisation with the control of them, feel like my controls are inverted when they're not. The weight though is really nice.
16:34 crates can be carried by these helis and there are physically visible in the cargo space of the chopper. The MI-8 looks pretty cool full of crates 😊

I agree with you about the general direction of the new flight model but it definitely needs a bit of tweaking. The descent rate as you mentioned is rapid, too rapid however. The new inertia is way better but they've over done it, and compensated for the reduction in control by making down-collective *extremely* sensitive, unrealistically so. Down collective is so strong in fact, that there isn't a transition into the balance state and you can land immediately; no matter how fast you are traveling.
This is some really good feedback, thank you for this! I think the collective loss rate makes bleed flares effectively redundant as you don’t really need to get into a balanced state. Some very solid points raised. Thanks again for commenting :-)
Is there a way to invert the vertical axis but only for helicopters (and other future aircraft)? The option to invert the axis as is also inverts the axis for aiming up and down for players which is insane considering they have it separate in ARMA 3 and even DayZ expansion mod's heli controls.
I'm not even a good pilot, but I have a take on this. Arma 4 needs to have the Taru and fully functional pods. We got cheated from enjoying a fantastic concept because of the engine/network limitations. A droppable pod with interior lighting, ViV cargo pods (quad/crates), droppable bench pods, attach/detach the Qilin directly to the Taru... The hose concept for refueling would be fantastic. Walking around the interior cargo spaces and functional doors would be amazing, too.
You make some really good points, especially about the Taru. It was a really underrated helicopter!! It just depends what kind of time frame Arma 4 is set in

I agree with you that reforger helicopters are a leap forward from arma 3 (except HOTAS support). Anyway, being mainly a flight sim guy, this is nothing like DCS. I love both of these helicopters in DCS and enjoyed them hours and hours. There is so much character to each helicopter missing in reforgers flight model and avionics.
Beautiful! I've been critical of BI for this follow-up in the Arma series, but this looks amazing. Let's hope this game will turn around like No Man's Sky.
As an avid VR fan (simulation games only), if there's one thing I could ask for it would be VR with keyboard + mouse / HOTAS. Not sure how realistic this would be to implement, but I can't imagine how awesome it must be drop of your squad in a Hueys while flying at night in VR.

Wow looks like the devs have done an amazing job! loved flying helicopters in Arma 3 and that looks even better. As a private pilot irl I really wish they will add planes and improve the fixed wing flight model that was really rubish compared to the helicopter flight model.
2:24 I'm pretty sure irl the entire helicopter would have crumbled when hitting the ground and then you would have had a massive fireball anyway. 😄 But yeah there are always limitations in video games and this is still a huge step into the right direction. From gameplay perspective this is great and can lead to memorable moments for those who enjoy multiplayer.

While this is exciting for A4 (if we're not limited to what locked controls we have now in Reforger), A4 is so far away, that I really hope BI is going to allow helicopters into DayZ SA finally.... there's only one good modded helicopter in DayZ SA currently, and it's by a guy every "mod creator" in the DayZ community hates (because he sells his model instead of it being free, but they fly and handle miles better than the competition), and his name is Nightwolf. It would be nice if they got off their proverbial asses and finally stuck with at least one of their promises, adding helicopters 🙄 Glad to see you back man, it's been quite awhile 😅
No HOTAS unfortunately. I know Xbox controllers work quite well but it’s honestly a matter of time before everything (track IR and HOTAS) all works in Reforger. Thanks for the comment man! :-)
dayz SA is getting real dry scraps from the last scraps left over from the scraps before in some dark, dark alley... they were wet cus it rained, but for has obviously been simply dark, for a long, long time.
The mi 8 will rotate with the main rotar in dcs but it shouldn't wobble left and right it has to do with a gyroscopic effect from the torque of the engine it has a lot to do with the throttle
One thing which i always disliked about Armas flight models is the fact you cant use your landing gear on helicopters like in reality, like sliding on the ground with skids or performing a nose wheel takeoff with lets say a Mil Mi-8. Since sliding works obviusly now in Arma Reforger, is it possible to runn with a Mil Mi-8 only on its nose wheel along a runway (nose wheel takeoff or running takeoff). Edit: Nvm go to 17:51 there its shown that nose wheel takeoffs dont work.
I always loved helicopters, but always been scared of giving any of the Armas a try because i hate PvP, granted, i would be only a pilot of a transport heli so not really interacting with enemies, but my fear of disappointing others just overwhelms me..
I spoke about this I think in my Arma 3 mastering the MH-9 Hummingbird in King of the Hill video (towards the end). Even the best pilots fail in multiplayer, but it’s about putting in the practice and only pushing the envelope when you feel like you’re ready. Becoming a good pilot means taking SOME risks, in order to develop and grow your skills. But don’t be disgruntled if some people yell at you in side chat. Do you and just focus on improving and learning from last time. So in short: go for it! And mute the dickheads 😆
thanks for the work and cutting together all the "new features" but let's be honest the 95% of things should be MINIMUM in a "next gen" simulation and that's what arma 4 wants to be after more than 10 years (release arma 3). tbh if only one of the points you mentioned wasn't there, i'd be pretty disappointed again. and to be honest, helis are a bit more "resistant" to normal ammunition than you think because the hull is only aluminum and most of it just flies THROUGH (not too good for everything inside) but makes the heli quite resistant to "small arms" (normal ammunition) unless you hit the appropriate components. but i don't know how well this is currently modeled in reforger.
@@CallMehTOMMEH idk i didn't play arma3 but i can tell Rising storm 2 helicopter is way better - In Arma Reforger i know when pull the cyclic in, the helicopter slowly pitch up and go up it make helicopters unrealistically heavy. - In Rising storm 2 pull the cyclic in, the helicopter quickly pitch up, but keep the same direction of travel, and slowly start traveling upwards as the horizontal momentum is overcome by the diagonal direction lift of the main Rotor blade. And you can do Auto-rotation landing when engine fail in Rising storm 2 but i can't tell if you can do it in Arma Reforger.
indeed, Mi-8 does have RITA (which is Bitching Betty analogue), but for very limited failures. And oil pressure in main gearbox is not on that list. so BI is failing this one actually.
@@CallMehTOMMEH Left/right engine fire, Left/right engine dangerous vibration, Heater fire, Main gearbox fire, Main hydraulic system failure, Main pumps failure, Service pump failure, Emergency fuel, Icing, First/second generator failure, RI-65 test successful. I don't think BIS is going to model like all this systems, because Arma is not DCS. But still better add blinkers for things like that.
this is all great, but, so we back to cold war?? why cant we have semi modern stuff going on... arma II: cold war, arma III, future that doesn't make sense, arma IV: cold war, again?! i loved the campaign on arma III back in the day, to be honest, but i alwase thinked they where eventually start making different stuff that wasn't happening in 2035 and wasn't created by the community... now they just giving us the arma II vibes again
Say what you want with no regards of what they made! Cous the fact is i want arma reforger merged as free to play game with dcs then you would have the best milsim game. i know that cant be done since they run on diffrent codes and engieens! But the fact is that i would pay for a model if it waz made good as in DCS. With that said imagen the map sice of DCS and a full scale battle with ppl buying models and free base game as infantry then you as payer need to transport guys in your uh60 or UH1 the Ah64 need to attack the tanks cous they are in the way! while the buddys in the f16 need to control the air! and this will not happen if arma 4 is gonna be based on consol at lesast not for 20 years. cous you would need to run a big engieen script with 10000 players vs 10000 players at least and with slot reserving to hellis planes boats and tanks! But that is my wish of an ARMA 4! if they just gonna do things like with reforger they can just aswell just do arma 3 with a engieen update pack that cost 50 bucks so they dont lose the mod community like they done with arma 4!
As a Console player. And logical human. 1989 is the dumbest time. Soviet Union was essentially powerless at the time. If america and Soviets went to war. America would RAPE Soviet Russia. Excuse Nuclear war. It is a game meant for another game. Essentially a testing ground. They could’ve done the 60s instead. But didn’t. Why? Cause logic. Also I shot a Huey in mid-flight 3 times with the RPG. Nothing happened. So they need to work on Hit Boxes and Shrapnel.
Of course you compared it to DCS... You go down to -1000 fpm in a hover and don't get into a VRS. These features are great compared to the earlier ArmA games, but it's an absolute joke to praise them compared to any other heli sim like MSFS, DCS or even WT. I do suppose it would seem like the pinnacle of innovation to an arma player, though.
I thought this was an old video at first.... posted 6h ago? You CAN remove players from helicopters to heal them. You CAN run supplies with helicopters.

@CallMehTOMMEH Not sure about in water. I understand they were in water in the video but you made it seem as though it was an impossibility altogether. I'm on console, I just run up and hit Y to remove casualty from the seat. Water may not be possible since you are swimming but in that situation, even if you could remove them, you wouldn't be able to heal them since you can't even heal yourself while swimming, and you wouldn't be able to fly the helicopter cause it would be flooded.

Agreed! I’ve tried an Xbox controller which is probably the closest thing we have right now. Will definitely feed it back

The guy who got me into Arma 3 for the helichopters is BACK !!!. i dont have reforger yet becaus my laptop cant run but will be upgrading soon
9:35 that is the Auxiliary Power Unit starting up. The APU helps start the 2 main engines. Once the main engines are running, the APU is shut off.

18:20 this is because you’re using incendiary rounds. If you use non-tracers it probably won’t catch fire

I think they need to model airframe stresses as well, we shouldn't be able to make 5g turns or negative G manoeuvres without consequences

There are plenty pve severs in arma 3. Don't be afraid.
Also, you can practice flight with single player scenarios or open up a private server and practice with zero enemies. Just fly.

Becoming a good pilot means taking SOME risks, in order to develop and grow your skills.
But don’t be disgruntled if some people yell at you in side chat. Do you and just focus on improving and learning from last time.

There already is an option to load supplies in the helicopter, but not sling.

thanks for the work and cutting together all the "new features" but let's be honest the 95% of things should be MINIMUM in a "next gen" simulation and that's what arma 4 wants to be after more than 10 years (release arma 3).
tbh if only one of the points you mentioned wasn't there, i'd be pretty disappointed again.
and to be honest, helis are a bit more "resistant" to normal ammunition than you think because the hull is only aluminum and most of it just flies THROUGH (not too good for everything inside) but makes the heli quite resistant to "small arms" (normal ammunition) unless you hit the appropriate components. but i don't know how well this is currently modeled in reforger.

- In Arma Reforger i know when pull the cyclic in, the helicopter slowly pitch up and go up it make helicopters unrealistically heavy.
- In Rising storm 2 pull the cyclic in, the helicopter quickly pitch up, but keep the same direction of travel, and slowly start traveling upwards as the horizontal momentum is overcome by the diagonal direction lift of the main Rotor blade. And you can do Auto-rotation landing when engine fail in Rising storm 2 but i can't tell if you can do it in Arma Reforger.

It definitely is similar! It’s often more forgiving (because of rotor breaking) and you can reach the balanced state much more easily than in Arma 3.
indeed, Mi-8 does have RITA (which is Bitching Betty analogue), but for very limited failures. And oil pressure in main gearbox is not on that list. so BI is failing this one actually.
What failures does it include? It might be worth mentioning to BIS

Left/right engine fire, Left/right engine dangerous vibration, Heater fire, Main gearbox fire, Main hydraulic system failure, Main pumps failure, Service pump failure, Emergency fuel, Icing, First/second generator failure, RI-65 test successful.
I don't think BIS is going to model like all this systems, because Arma is not DCS. But still better add blinkers for things like that.

this is all great, but, so we back to cold war?? why cant we have semi modern stuff going on... arma II: cold war, arma III, future that doesn't make sense, arma IV: cold war, again?! i loved the campaign on arma III back in the day, to be honest, but i alwase thinked they where eventually start making different stuff that wasn't happening in 2035 and wasn't created by the community... now they just giving us the arma II vibes again
Say what you want with no regards of what they made! Cous the fact is i want arma reforger merged as free to play game with dcs then you would have the best milsim game. i know that cant be done since they run on diffrent codes and engieens! But the fact is that i would pay for a model if it waz made good as in DCS. With that said imagen the map sice of DCS and a full scale battle with ppl buying models and free base game as infantry then you as payer need to transport guys in your uh60 or UH1 the Ah64 need to attack the tanks cous they are in the way! while the buddys in the f16 need to control the air! and this will not happen if arma 4 is gonna be based on consol at lesast not for 20 years. cous you would need to run a big engieen script with 10000 players vs 10000 players at least and with slot reserving to hellis planes boats and tanks! But that is my wish of an ARMA 4!
if they just gonna do things like with reforger they can just aswell just do arma 3 with a engieen update pack that cost 50 bucks so they dont lose the mod community like they done with arma 4!

You go down to -1000 fpm in a hover and don't get into a VRS.
These features are great compared to the earlier ArmA games, but it's an absolute joke to praise them compared to any other heli sim like MSFS, DCS or even WT.
I do suppose it would seem like the pinnacle of innovation to an arma player, though.
I thought this was an old video at first.... posted 6h ago? You CAN remove players from helicopters to heal them. You CAN run supplies with helicopters.

Not sure about in water. I understand they were in water in the video but you made it seem as though it was an impossibility altogether. I'm on console, I just run up and hit Y to remove casualty from the seat. Water may not be possible since you are swimming but in that situation, even if you could remove them, you wouldn't be able to heal them since you can't even heal yourself while swimming, and you wouldn't be able to fly the helicopter cause it would be flooded.
