This excerpt is so difficult, especially because you can’t go for the “fast and light” approach, it requires such a big sound, especially form bass trombone that it really takes a lot of air and focus to have each attack be strong and well in tune. These bros rocked
@@TheTromboneClips Shostakovich is notorious in that department, take the first movement with that enormous climax and the cor anglais has to play that sad melody after giving all just prior to that moment. I so love the sarcastic humor DDS uses in this movement with the solo trumpet which sounds so out of place(yet again a trademark DDS)coming after the shrieking sounds of the E flat clarinet and piccolo and the devastating trombones and tubas. One of my favorite performances was in The Concertgebouw with the NedPho under Haenchen. I was unaware that in the crowd Jonny Greenwood was also in the hall and he also enjoyed that one.

I think it would be cool if this entire movement were transcribed for trombone choir.

Check out the Boston Symphony Orchestra’s recording of this…their trombone section kills it. Especially James Markey
Nelsons's records right?
@@henrynicholas2332 yes!
This trombone excerpt begins in the 3rd movement from rehearsal [86], or rehearsal C if you have the Breitkopf score.
Is that Prof. Snape directing? He’s a natural with the wand.
Sounds great! I’m a little confused on why the assistant principal and second trombone aren’t using the same alternate positions as the principal 🤔
Personal preference I guess?
I guess in orchestra you don't allways have time to practice A lot. So you just have to play it safe.
Bass trombone is at the same octave as the tuba, different positions to the 1st and 2nd players.
Kylo ren is a great conductor!
Wow 🥵🔥🔥
exactly.
Damn!!!
Trombone sonic 💨💨🎺
Can you give me a link to the recording of this orchestra of this symphony , please🙏🙏🙏
Uh… the tempo marking should be Half note = 152, not 170.
