Hehe I actually go to that school now and am in both bands! To clarify, Jazz band is a lot more fun but it starts at 7 am, and the music is harder. Concert band is kind of boring unless you're doing a march and have a fun bass part. Keep up the good playing and remember to practice!
I'm a big fan of the jazz band too, but many students only have Concert Band, so I try to choose the most enjoyable music and have as much fun in those classes as possible. All music is awesome! (Including orchestra!) 🎉
It’s crazy because in my school I can hear the trombones in jazz way more than I can hear them in concert. Keeping mind there’s one trombone in jazz and he’s also in concert so idk how he gets quieter
Hi mymokol4399 - I see we have a jazz pedagogy expert here - thanks for the comment! Now that I think of it, I always use Concert Bb and Concert A (for saxes) in jazz band, but for this video it worked to have both ensembles play the same tubing note. 😊
@@SchoolBandOrchestra Of course! I see that it was better to use the same note, even if it's not accurate. Also, I'm curious: Concert A for the saxes? Why is that? (I'm genuinely curious.) We always use concert Bb for all the instruments except flutes, who use a concert A. Why would saxes, for whom concert Bb is a C and a G, use a concert A?
@@mymo_in_BbConcert A for tenor saxes is B, B is a stable note for the middle octave and top octave. Concert Bb, C for tenors is unstable for new players for that top octave C, I personally tune to both Concert Bb and A, I prefer A concert because it’s really stable. Same Can be said for altos and Bari, Concert A, F sharp for Altos and Bari is the most stable note for these horns for both octaves.
@@alejandrogutierrez1297 I kinda don't get why B and F# would be more stable than C and G, I play tenor and bari and certainly never noticed that these notes would be more stable, quite the opposite (this is a genuine question by the way)
I love how the solo for concert band was fragile. I did that as my solo in 7th grade concert band, and I’m still obsessed with it now. I kinda just realized I’ve played all of the concert songs in this video, so I guess concert band might be a little generic, but whatever
As a jazz (2 years) AND concert band (4 years) jazz is so much more fun. (Jazz) You can tell who is actually more into band, and you have to audition, meaning it’s the best of the crew, it’s also usually the older years of the grades so you have more experience. (also just way more fun) (Ima a trombone btw) and concert band, I really feel those ‘be softer’ like what. Then jazz ‘LOIDER C’MON I WANNA HEAR THAT’
Did I hear the thunderer for a second or am I just old and hear Sousa a lot in my highschool years 👀 (Probably not, I just want to flex that we played the thunderer at my middle school concert and played stars and stripes forever in our show ‼️‼️)
Why is this so true, as a new 6th grader in concert band (trumpet) and having a brother who is in jazz, I feel like jazz just has all the fun tho I just learned that jazz has to created their own solo, sad.
I think part of the reason i like jazz band so much more than concert band is because my parts are actually technical and not the same note on quarters changing every four measures. (tenor sax here)
I'm not sure what exactly you noticed, but my students write random things that I say on the white board, and then I transfer them all to my computer so that I can print out a huge list of "Mr Winters Quotes" to hand out on yearbook day. 🤷🏻♂️
I've just been busy teaching band & orchestra. Each video takes about 6 hours to edit, and I just haven't had time recently. Thanks for your support! ❤️❤️
i wish i were in jazz because it seems fun but i know its wayyy harder 😭😭 plus clarinet seems like it would be hard to play for jazz and i dont know any other instruments yet
Jeez…the sax part hits too close to home. My teacher literally subbed in my part in a March for a part that only plays one note over and over again And in jazz we play sir duke…
only applies in high school. symphony orchestras and concert bands clear jazz bands by MILES after hs. meanwhile, most of the kids in hs concert band are just there for the credit, while jazz has the ppl who want to play instruments

Same!! My Jazz Band’s also a zero period so 7 am, too! I’m in Concert Band as well but it’s the intermediate band.
@@thepinkelephant2520 SAME!!!
My jazz period is 4th period so 10:19 is when jazz band is for us
You don't understand how much I love this channel

I swear this is my favorite channel
Me to but they take so long to post

Well in my band it's because out band director tells us we're "blasty" when we play the tiniest bit loud in concert band.
@@alex_exists u gotta keep balance in mind for actual music. in jazz, balance doesn't really matter
@@DarkDish0so real
As a bass player I feel disappointed that concert band bass was not included ( it is rare though )

Finally you posted another video
I know! 🤷🏻♂️😅😅😅
And I’m also in my schools band and in there jazz band 😊 I look up to this band!

Sweet! It's always best to do BOTH!
@@SchoolBandOrchestra would you ever come to a concert?

i really like that one person’s hair that is blue because I also have blue hair
For a middle school drummer that kid is really good
as a bass trombonist in high school I think jazz band is the most fun

This guy seriously said concert F
for tuning a jazz band 💀

In jazz I play Alto and in concert Bass Clarinet both are great for experience.

Tenor parts were horrendously boring for me in high school. I doubt that has changed in 23 years.
Lol yeah if you play any kind of saxophone (especially tenor or bari) you’re really gonna wanna join jazz band

1:37 omg so real (i play first alto in jazz band and i used to play first alto in concert band, i play oboe in concert band now)
As a classical musician who is in concert band and orchestra, we are organised people unlikr jazz players

I HAD FRAGILE AS WELL DURING MIDDLE SCHOOL brings back memories 2:50
I HATE IT☠️☠️☠️
The jazz count is so accurate 😊
As a bass player, this is valid
For me, the trombones are quiet no matter what, i play tuba in cb and trombone in jb
1:05 too loud? For how to train your Dragon that’s perfect volume
2:22 fragile makes me so mad as the glockenshpiel player, not a single one of our flute players can play it
this is Terrifyingly accurate lol
For me it was always the trumpets how missed up and ultimately got blamed for everything, our drummer was super good.
green shirt guy play both percussion and bass clarinet??
Hmm...he may have been a fake percussionist just for the filming...
BASS
The most important 4-letter word!

@@SchoolBandOrchestra your SOO welcome and you guys are literally gods at sax #Alto Sax Gang 😀🎷
so what was the name of that piece that they were playing in the jazz sax parts
It's from a song called The Sermon. Love it!!!

Jazz band is concert band’s cooler cousin
But is it too cool for it's own good?
i wish i were in jazz because it seems fun but i know its wayyy harder 😭😭 plus clarinet seems like it would be hard to play for jazz and i dont know any other instruments yet
It sounds like it's time to learn a second instrument, like tenor sax. Summer's a great time to do that!

3:30 blame the drummer

How to train your dragon I think

2:29 fragile?
Jazz is just better

Nuh uh
As a tenor sax player jazz band is way better
i ❤ jazz but i play bassoon 😭
Was that fragile for that flute solo?
It was from "(not) Alone" by Randall Standridge. Is it similar to, or the same as the solo in "Fragile"?
It's slightly different in Fragile
At 3:08. In your dreams
yay
0:29 either theyre playing out of tune to sabotage your band, or they dont know theyre out of tune, which im afraid might be even worse.
