A day without Rainman Ray's Repairs is like a day without sunshine. Glad you're back, I was starting to hyperventilate.
Glad to hear I’m wasn’t the only one.
Same here. God bless America
Yes. No wonder it has been raining here for days. I watched this video and tomorrow is supposed to be sunny!
I’m glad you took some time off for yourself and your family. It’s good to recharge. Really enjoy your channel 🤗
Agreed! Although I start to think worst when he does not post for a couple of days.
Oh stop you simp
It's heartening to see that lot full of cars waiting to be wrenched on. Pretty soon Rainman is gonna be a Rainboss if those customs keep coming in. Glad it looks like your move out of someone else's shop into your own is working out for ya.
Could we possibly see the return of "PETAH!"?
@@williamgilroy5217 Heck, even if Ray hires someone named Janet, they're shop-name should be "PETAH!"
That went quite nicely! I am actually impressed with the mileage on that Hyundai. May the customer have many more.
Great little cars these Hyundai Sonata models. I had a 2012 which I traded up for a 2018. Now got 110,000 miles and not a single issue. Oil, gas, tires. The 2012 had shitty stock tires, 2018 tires were much better but I still upgraded.
@@jimr5703 So long as you avoid the 2.0T?
My dad had n azera brand new 20,000 miles in started breaking down
I had a 1996 Elantra - 320k when there finally developed a rod knock. A 1998 Elantra went 310k -- the non replaceable frame rotted out and I couldn't get enough metal to weld and the hood wouldn't stay tight because of the body twist so decided to junk it but the engine and tran/clutch was still good when it went to the yard. Timing belts every 100k, oil changed every 5K, only repairs were a few alternators, batteries and a couple CATs. I have a 2018 Elantra that gets 44 MPG and its been (knock on wood) trouble free. I also have toyotas, hondas -- all lots of miles.
@Richard Cranium Touché.
I’m always jealous how rust free the cars you work on are lol great and entertaining video as always! 🇬🇧
Munch more better lo corrosion vehicles here in CenTex all the way to central California........Only had to work on rusted Midwest junk a few yrs til 70s move to CenTex. Never looked back
Ya. Senor Ray made slick work of frame change. Fixing the nitemare someone else created.
Yes I was thinking the same, lot different working on cars here in Ontario Canada, makes me laugh when Ray says this bolts corroded😂
Ikr, when Ray sprayed penetrate oil on the exhaust flange nuts, I was 🤔 what rust?
@@ricebike if that was in the UK, the entire exhaust flange and nuts would be fused together with rust and would need fire to get it off! lol
I felt like Ray really wasn't pulling his weight when we were lifting that sub frame together.
Second this. I'm beginning to think Ray is a slouch, all of us are just covering for him while he gets all the credit. Lol.
LMFAO
Ray, so glad to have you back. When I don't hear from my favorite video poster for a few days, I start to worry and think the worst, relieved all is well.
Guys and gals, we are ONLY 3K away from putting Ray over that 500K mark. FIRST, check and make sure YOU are still subscribed because sometimes the gremlins get in there and dump you out. SECONDLY, if you are subscribed, talk to your friends and family, ESPECIALLY if they have an interest or love their cars. I know it might be hard but we MIGHT be able to get Ray to that mark by Easter. Let's do it!.
I agree with everything here 👆👆👆💯
Last time on a sub push, I grabbed my wife's phone and wala, Ray had a new subscriber 😊
@@sparksalot4950 That's the spirit, sparks, thank you.
My coffee didn't taste the same without my morning dose of Ray. I even checked your channel for new vids. just in case RUclips stopped recommending them for some reason. Then I was concerned you might be sick or hurt. Glad you're back! You made this look easy, but I know better.
I'm subed and notified. You tube told me about this post 10 hours after it up loaded.
All that work for a bolt ..no chance ray ..been here before bud some steel round bar and weld a nut on one end cut to the right size then get the tap and dye set out and make the thread on the bar job done for Penny's (GB) never say you can't get the right Length bolt again you make it .. keep up the good work Jim from Greenock SCOTLAND
After watching the Wife Unit's channel, and your Off-duty channel, I fully understood the time away from wrenching. Happy birthday to whoever it was celebrating!
Ray, good to see better heads prevail. Subframe replacement offers less possibility of liability issues, in my humble opinion.
"I measured zero times, and thought twice" I feel you brother.... I feel you.
Ray, you gave me a little bit of anxiety attack, since you haven't posted anything on YT for 3 days. Glad to see another amazing video!
Good Repair and subframe replacement @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Suggestion: Put a small magnet tray on each lift arm to put lug nuts in.
I’ve been seeing Rainman Ray for a year now. He’s organized in his own disorganized way 😅
@@jamram9924 LoL 😂😆

@@forgetfulme1719 LoL 😂😆 you're probably correct!
Lol my thoughts exactly !!!!
I keep every bit of hardware I can too. Just fixed a moonroof with a piece from an old air compressor. It was either replace the whole thing with a used unit, or repair it in place with a salvaged fitting.
My bf and I enjoy watching you all the way out in MT. Keep them coming. I have been learning so much from you. 😊
Hyundai fun! I pull parts like that for a salvage yard and the things that always worry me are coils and leaf springs. Very wise of you to be extra cautious 👍
I'm amazed at how the Double Hockey Sticks you can make such a frustrating and complicated job look so (relatively) easy. This was Well Worth waiting for. Thank you.
@jacksonsheppard9668 I must disagree. He was trying to save the customer a bunch of money. Even though he did use a day to do it, I’m sure the customer appreciated him for at least trying. I know I would have appreciated it
I lost it when you said, Pendulum of finger smashing doom ! As I've done it before ! Great video again.
@Rainman Ray I would have attempted putting in a long ‘Heli-Coil’ thread in there first likely saving a big pile of time. They are good and robust and hold in places like motor mounts, spark plugs, head bolts into block and many other applications. They have proven a life saver many times over.
I believe ‘Heli-Coil’ is a proprietary name so you could find them under replacement machine threads or some similar references. Just a thought/suggestion to be helpful. Had my share of things going sideways and stripping out in my time with the wrenches.
Outstanding demonstration and very well explained. Thank you
Another excellent repair. On my personal vehicle I use Anti-seize on most of the bolts. Causes less issues years later.
Glad your back was worried that you were going out. I watched DYI gang then poof gone . I don't do Instagram or Twitter so when a favorite youtuber moves there I loose them
Ya. Senor Ray made slick work of this frame change, fixing the nitemares someone else created
Happy New Hairdo, Wife Unit!
I'm amazed.... You made this look so easy.... when I looked at it I saw what appeared to be a impossibly difficult repair... I didn't see the same thing as you however.... You did a great job.... Doc
Doc holiday. Nice 👍😁👍
It's easy enough, it just needs a little bit of time
Good on you for closing the door!
It's impressive to see Ray at full speed like this. Would have taken me 3x the time for sure. You get what you pay for.
A nice side benefit of using a wrecking yard sub frame is that you acquire a nice assortment of expensive forged nuts and bolts,, :-)
hey Ray, Wouldn't a hi strength threaded rod and two jam nuts have worked as well?
even welding a nut on one end would probably have worked as well?
I get it. You have a life and family and stuff but when my morning didn't start out with your video, I was discombobulated the whole day. No more days off. 😁
Never ever worry about no vid because of family stuff . Family always comes FIRST ! Job went well .
Reminded me of when I had to replace the rear assembly on my '55 Ford when the ring gear chipped off and a piece went thru the third member housing. Use one from a '58 Ford police car. Longer springs so it lifted the rear about 8 inches. Never tore up my exhaust after that however.
Been waitin for this video, same problem with my dodge, control arm rubber corroded,so glad I seen this video, THANK YOU RAY, YOUR DA MAN👍
Yay, Wife-Unit. Ray needed your guns. 🏋️♀️
Every time i see ray work on suspension and subframes without struggling with stuck bolts i think about how easy it would be to work on cars down south
Superb subframe replacement video,awsome.
As far as lifting a vehicle off the rack, at our shop, we welded D rings to the arm of the lift, and used transport ratchet straps to the frame to secure.
I never thought I had an addictive personality until, I had withdrawal symptoms from you non-posting for a few days.
Mechanics hammers. Grandpa was German and he worked as a mechanic on a steam-powered dredge. He used to say that German mechanics didn't need hammers...things either fit or they didn't. But I noticed that his toolbox I got after he passed did have mechanics hammers.
I hear ya. After the weekend, the first 5 workdays are the hardest.
!
Good job indeed sir.
WOW Ray ! 280 odd thousand miles......!Thats more than the distance to the moon!!!
You made the correct choice in replacing the subframe, If it was my car I would 'Fix it" but some one else's vehicle - Full replacement (liability) Their car their problem.
One time I did a full suspension rebuild up front and subframe replacement in the rear, and just kinda put all the adjustments wherever 'looked good' (while hanging in the air at full droop). Sent it off to the alignment shop and it was dead on.
Tragic but really informative awesome video thanks ray
While you were gone RUclips unsubscribed us. We were at my sister's house yesterday looking you up on our account and sure enough we were unsubscribed. Needless to say we are resubscribed.
Thanks
As a mechanic from wisconsin, I envy the lack of rust.,
So glad you made this video
Just a suggestion, when I was a fleet mechanic, and had to do oil changes, I would FIRST use a center punch to poke a hole in filter to let it drain... then pull drain plug. By the time pan was drained the filter would be empty and no oily mess when taking off filter. Neat trick I learned.
Excellent coordination with the Wife Unit!
That window control happened to my Sonata 20 min fix with the new console. And now I know how to remove my subframe. :D
Great video Ray
Thanks very much 👌👌👌
I'm actually glad you did that way because it shows how it was done in the first so you talked somebody what not to
That was a tough job. Well done.
We love you Ray and family ❤️
This is interesting, my 01 Tiburon (RIP), I was smacked by a Caddie doing a U Turn. The rear subframe I thought was replaced, it wasn't. Was bent to the point that overtime it rusted in half.
I was pissed. Loved that car.
That didn't go too bad. I have done this exact repair before for the exact reason.
To compress the coil spring if you don't have a coil spring compressor, or it won't fit, on the ground, lift the opposite corner and use bailing wire to secure the offending coil spring. It works!
I'm sure glad to see a video , I was about to go into straight panic mode .
"It appears we have some corrosion!"
Eric O would beg to differ!
well i hope you had a great weekend especially with the kids you do need time out for them also glad you are replacing that sub frame it will be safer in the long run ,and thank you for the video
In the late 80s early 90s I used to run a International ACCO( Australian constructed cab over)tray and had replace the entire differential and banjo now I am no motor mechanic so it took me over a week to do it we didn't have battery powered tools back then so everything was done using normal spanners etc
Nice to identify how that thread got stripped in the first place. Amazing that all the rubber bushes seemed good after so many miles. People unfairly give Hyundai's a bad rap.
Ahhhh there's our Ray of Florida sunshine!
I know shit all about mechanics, but the videos for some reason are addicting to watch, I learn small things as I watch. Keep up the work!
No tea bagging with the nutz😂
Wife Unit's look on her face listening to Ray's instruction on removing the exhaust told a story. It goes like this " I really don't understand what you are trying to convey to me. Are you having me on Ray? I cant hold up the exhaust! I'll die! On camera! RAY!"🤣
I was concerned when you did not post. but glad you are OK. I had to watch "Matts off road recovery"
Thank you Sir. For your detailed repair video. And you time …
don't apologize for not uploading for the past few days. You have a private life that should be taken from us. so do all the subscriptions. So we don't get to see your video the same day you get up. then we'll probably do it the next day. I hadn't noticed you hadn't posted in the last few days until you said that
Great job Ray !
Ray Happy Tuesday and I am glad to be here for your great video. That was an awesome fire on Sunday. 🔥Also have yourself a great day.
Welcome Back, I'm glad you took some time for family.
The green subscribe button with the “welcoming chime”!
Tell me I'm not the only one. I got all into the video and was trying to see around the other side to see the bolt hole. I caught myself turning my phone trying to see. That's when you realize you're not really there. So, either Ray is doing a really good job filming or I'm an idiot.
Yes, yes..we are idiots 🤣
You can tell the difference between the rustbelt tech's and the restfree tech's. The rustbelt guys are schooled in the art of frozen and damaged threads and would have found the correct bolt and spot welded the nut on the back side but its all good. Perhaps I'm just envy of not having cars drip "rustoil" all over me. When that oil/power steering fluid meets the rusty subframes, it mixes together and is downright nasty. Keep up the fine work Ray.
And he is only watching dust come out when he removes parts, what a nice change that would be from upstate NY rust storms
Yes, I was amazed when those exhaust joint bolts came out without breaking! I would probably have drilled out the damaged thread and made up a stud with nuts both ends to replace that long bolt.
Thanks for a great video.
Missed you Ray glad to see you back oh darn we didn’t get to see the big backyard fire 🔥 glad you had some family time and other things.
Hi Ray. Myself and others were quick of the mark to suggest repairing the thread's on the sub frame was the best option. Now seeing a better look at the damaged collar with the threads obliterated I agree that you once again made the correct decision. It is easy to make comment from our armchairs here at home and cause some angst of which I apologize if this is what was felt. Carry on my friend in what you are doing and I am sure you will get to the 500k mark very soon.
Methinks I would've used an SAE sized longer bolt and nut and used the original sub-frame. I did similar when I couldn't find a 130mm long 10mm bolt for my Frontier alternator, ended up using 3/8" long bolt from hardware store and SAE nut.
thankyou Ray a very enjoyable extended upload,,see you in the next one,,have a good week,👍👍
I think that lining up some of the holes might be easier if you used a drift pin. A set of drift pins may save some time on some assemblies.
When I worked on construction equipment, drift pins were quite often more useful than another person trying to help shove things in place.
Not a mechanic by any means. That said, I am impressed with the amount of tension in the suspension of a car. And,, now I understand why there is that giant spring on each side of the car. They provide the tension that spreads out the forces that come with the car going over bumps, and with turning.
This man felt guilty about a weekend off. He post so many he deserves it forsure. Your a good man ray.
I liked it when he closed the door.
Good job Ray.
That is some crazy mileage for a Hyundai. I have a 2006 Ford Crown Vic that I bought with 87,000 miles on it, it now has 381,000. I did replace all the timing components around 100,000 miles ago. I'm hoping to make it past 500,000 miles. I never did like those cam type adjusters. That's one thing GM got right decades ago, by using a shim type system. It held alignment a lot longer than those cam adjusters. The toe adjustment could have been designed like a tie rod, to shorten or lengthen a threaded control arm, instead of using an oversized hole in the frame.
the more vids i watch, the more my love of mechanic work comes back, ive lost confidence over the years of working on my cars, im fully qualified as well, doing an oil change on my wifes car this weekend, bought all the stuff needed, filter, oil, new sump plug, sockets, socket adaptors for my drill lol, also bought myself a torque wrench so i can have actual clicks myself, its all thanks to u ray for reigniting the spark i lost, keep being you and never give up, much love from scotland dude
Congratulations! I've seen your wisdom mature over the years. A wise man learns from his mistakes and evolves to do better in the future. Seems your modification techniques are becoming more refined also. Attention to details do matter. I wish you many years of happiness with your new wife.
That was quite straightforward for a major task, good to see. Looking at the way that bolt dropped when bolting up the subframe, you can see what happened to the control arm bolt originally they just spun it in with a power tool stripping it in the process! "Edit" you just said that as I was typing this!
Nice work on this one.
I'm glad you got things done, but I did miss your video's. That's how I relax at night.
Nice to see you took a little time off that's always good but did miss your video. Look forward to yours and South Main Auto every day. Never miss either one Thanks
