I like how Ray is almost ready to rip out the plastic clips until he realizes it’s a repeat customer and they’re his clips.
You may not do it often, but I'm sure new viewers will appreciate seeing "Ray's Legendary Battery Service"! I know it got me into using the NOCO cleaner/protectant on my batteries. They hold up very well.
Must be the only mechanic who can make a mundane starter motor change into a fun video ...keep it up Ray...your a legend 👍👍
I'm happy that you think changing a starter is fun....Try it sometime, especially when it's winter when they're most likely 'ta fail....That'll change 'yer view....
Dude, you make everything look easy and hard all at the same time. Always appreciate the content from an entertainment and learning perspective.. Great Channel.
😅😅
Perhaps you could install a winch at the back wall of your shop to haul these vehicles in?
That's actually brilliant..!! Well played//
He has a tow truck with a wheel lift he could back it in
Only problem with that, Ray will over engineer it, add a few fulcrums and pulleys, hits the lever and launches the "Lex i" through the wall into the next county....lol. (cool idea tho. Lol)
Mount it to the slab. Studs and even the bottom plate might not be fastened well. Even today with all the hurricane codes. Done plenty of construction in Florida in his area both what’s considered coastal and non coastal
Ray already has a winch, on the back of his flatbed. I wondered why he didn't just use the flatbed to move it into the shop.
To settle the motor vs engine debate...Motors run on electricity and engines run on combustion.
Takes a motor to start an engine!
Engines convert chemical energy to mechanical.
One vote for "Lexii." We've had a bunch in my family throughout the years and learned that from the dealer.
Ah but is it a second or fourth declension Latin noun? Is it like Dominus (2nd) or Exercitus (4th)? Is the ablative plural Lexis or Lexibus? A group of Lexus owners probably wouldn't like to think that they drove by with or from Lexibus, and the nominative plural would still be Lexus like the singular. The Romans must have got very confused. Just as well they didn't have auto-chariots.
@@heckelphon This may be the reason why they say Latin is a dead language. It plainly confused the crap out of everyone. lol
@@greenhouse3505 Agreed! You had to spend more time asking how you were using a word than just doing it!
I just refer to them as rebadged Toyotas
"People called 'Romanes' they go the house"?
Always nice to hear you speaking German.....greetings from Bavaria/Germany 😊
I work in IT; "needs to get access to what he needs to access" is a normal, completely acceptable statement.
It’s interesting how IT and techs have a similar vernacular
"I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in"
"I'm in the wrong hole! That's the problem!" Classic, Ray! Love it, Bro! Stay classy, Ray and keep up the good work.
Always enjoy watching your videos thanks
That was a very satisfying video. Straight forward, with the usual awkward bits. I like it.
Great job ray!!! Always fun to watch!!! Thanks ray!
I was trying to think what you could coat those bare copper wires with to help protect them better and I thought of Plasti Dip which is a rubberised paint.
I was just thinking the same thing.
*talks about nuts on the J hook, neglects to mention the nut workin' on it!* 🤣🤣🤣
Great video , Ray !!
thankyou for another enjoyable upload Ray,,,have yourself a great week,👍👌
Ray, one day when you wake up and can no longer face old, rusty cars, think about becoming a master mechanic teacher. Your diagnostic skills are supurb, and we can use 10K more mechanics like you !
I love how Ray makes a mundane job look so entertaining!
Great tutorial ! Thanks !!
Great job Ray
Mr. Legend, Thanks for being an HONEST mechanic. This World 🌎 needs so many more like you. Keep us smiling 😁🚙🛻🪛
Been waiting all day for this Ray but am happy now
God Day to you Ray! Great Video!
this video went about as smoothly as anything ive ever done lol back and forth with and for everything
You're a brave man for driving that into the shop with the hood open, I've seen too many hoods drop due to worn prop shocks and crack the windshield with parts placed in the wiper area.
Brave, or a person that has yet to learn that expensive lesson...
Cracked windshield from parts placed in the wiper cowl is an entirely different situation than hood shocks slowly letting the hood down as you inch it in the garage.. giggety... Furthermore, wtf you putting up there god dam driveshafts?? "I accidentally sent a control arm through your windehh... Myyy baahhd.." people just get off on "teaching"/"warning" (aka: man-splaining) others about all the potential dangers of every single move made, or is hypothetically possible to make.. thank you Mr miyagi.. I will definitely think twice next time before I toss a pair of rotors up on the wiper cowl before moving a vehicle a meter (~3') with the hood up😂
I had a 1988 Bronco that had the hood latch fail at 40MPH, wrapping the hood over the windshield with a BOOM! that bent the hinges and required a windshield replacement.
Quite a shock, given that I was in moderate traffic at the time.
Been there done that on a 17 Silverado just the others day , learned a valuable lesson that day.
I find it funny that you talk to yourself sometimes like I do. Like it’s going to make a difference in your work. Keep it up Ray🇺🇸✌️
Except in his case, there is at least a camera listening... lol.
I call talking to myself,"thinking out loud".
WIthout Ray's babbling, it would just be another repair video.
People generally do start to talk to themselves when working on cars, especially when things go wrong the swear words come flying out. 😂😂😂
Same 😁
Hey Ray
Love your videos
Thank you for the calm attitude, it's nice to check in and just see some good honest stuff when you've had a long day
Nice Detail ty for you upload ❤❤
Wonderful job well done Ray. Tell Luren we got her card today and thanks. (Bill, Sue and Katy)
Somewhere in America, a person is putting glue on an EVAC hose wondering, why would you NOT use glue. Lol, you stay safe!
That, was a darn good video Ray
Black Lexus RX350 with black interior. I'm in love. Nice diagnostic analysis.
Love the sound effects Ray
Ray, you are such a hoot, listening to your commentary.
One comment worthy of note. A lot of the newer imports have a gear reducted permant magnet starter motor... so when you bang on it you can very easily shatter the magnets inside. So even if you had thought about repairing the starter you now are up the proverbial Creek with out a paddle. Re-man starter 100-300 dollars new over a thousand... brushes about $30 which are now no longer an option. So unless you are in an emergency situation DON'T BANG ON THE STARTER.
Good video Ray.
Give the Astro 150sl a look Ray. I’m in love with the smaller handheld lights. Imagine that hood light they have is pretty good
I enjoyed this one, having done a few parking lot starters and alternators, it's always fun but when you get it done and hear that VROOM it is SOOO satisfying.
Lol you became a mobile mechanic for a little while! Welcome to the club!
My ocd kicked in when you didn't grease the starter terminals and the big copper ground but I'm sure it will out live the car.. Great video, love the ramblings Ray.. Cheers..
Good and honest 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I don't know Ray sometimes I feel that you are accident prone because again you dropped me on my face😂😂😂
Good video and repair As always Was entertaining @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Being old school gearhead I remember when part of changing starters involved loosening or removal of headers and heat shields from underneath. I was ecstatic the first time I had a car that I could reach the oil filter from the front and above the engine .
Best one hand mechanic ever.
97°F down there already? It's sunny and a nice cool 54°F up here in Connecticut. Beautiful day. :)
That J pin was more frustrating then the whole job…the bungee option was entering my mind!😂
We had 45F with cold wind today. Was very cold. So your hot Sun is big envy of mine.
Black car + Black interior + Florida sun = rolling sauna. 😊
That battery terminal cleaner works wonders. The protective grease works well too. Worth the money to keep around.
I purchased a couple of those mag etic based lights like you use. Now I am picking them up off the floor all the time. But they are handy and give me exercise😅.
Outstanding video as always Ray good day to you Ray hope your good love your content but the most important thing is to have your self a great day Ray
I talk to myself too but only when I need expert advice!
Nice work 👍
Cheers from Nova Scotia
23:25 for under hood lighting, I just bought a $20 LED shop light from Menards. Yea, I have to plug it in, but it never runs out of battery and I never have to wait for it to charge.
10:58 😂 Rumor has it there's a starter motor down there somewhere
Another entertaining video!
Having a Bad Day Just watch Ray. Thanks .
love your videos
I was really thinking that in the end, in the last moment, as a cliffhanger you will drop the entire box of plastic clips into the engine bay....i've got dissapointed Ray ;-). Thanks for the upload, great one as usual. Have a magnificent day!!!
The jeep taunts us at the start of every video!
I recently bought a Craftsman underhood light which was less than $100 and uses regular Craftsman 20v batteries. Works great, way brighter than other underhood lights I've used, and it folds in 2 so you can stand it up....
The long-awaited anticipated battery cleaning Thank you so much You made my day
Yup, got a box of those clips, and they have come in use for replacing many broken ones.
Now don’t get me wrong, snap on is amazing, that being said I only have a few snap on tools. I’m not a mechanic but i do more than the average guy, (right now I have an npi 4.6 block I’m getting ready to mate with ported PI heads, forged internals, ect)
The tools I use are Gearwrench, Olsa, Tekton, Wiha, makita, Capri, ect.
(Not gonna lie I have some HF stuff too) engine stand, breaker bars, a set of icon sockets, and of course the golden ratchet.
I seriously think I have an addiction to shiny useful things, I order a tool or set every week. I think I’m up to 37 ratchets, 23 complete sets of sockets, 42 different pliers, 6 torque wrenches, and about 200-300 box end wrenches. Plus a lot more.
But only 2 sets of screwdrivers as well.
Anyways I love watching car repair videos when the guy with $40,000 worth of snap on uses the same tools I use as my main tools. Today it was your Gearwrench socket set. I have the same one except I pitched the blown molded case and threw them in my box on organizers. Actually just got another set of deep and shallow metric sockets yesterday.
My point is that I would have spent $31,472.69 if I got all snap on (Or 2 dozen eggs) and I’m your average guy with bills and a family. And I’m not a pro mechanic like I said.
But I am contractor so my work tools are waaaaaay over $30k. So I 100% get why you would use brands like snap on.
Well good day to you Ray it's raining this morning 💦
I agree with you on Lexi for plural addressable/acknowledging of said Lexi is such a way. I'd imagine that's how you'd say it. I've addressed the same way to the brand before I watched you on the tube so it's ironic you have, not "got" said things the way I do on the channel as a tech and human/father/DIY unit myself alike and it is strikingly resembling my nostalgic chord. Love watching Ray. I feel I watch my own hands working sometimes watching you. 🤙🔧✨️👌
Rainman your awesome I would love to work in the same garage with you I laugh evertime I watch your videos,I've been a mechanic for 8 years so if you need help I'll pack my cloths and take a trip lol
Ray, the battery schmoo didn't go bad. The colorant is only a tracer, to help you find your target, and has no other effect. The active ingredients are mostly colorless.
Word Ray, use your words😊
Positive cable on first and off last! Ooops... Also Vaseline works perfect for terminal protection.
Ray- Did you ever think of putting recessed "pots" on the floor so you can hook up a winch to them to pull vehicles into the shop when you have no help? My friend's son did this and it is wizard!
Morning Ray, a little late to this one sorry. I get sooooo jealous when you say it's hot there, because where I am in north west England it is 7°C this morning!!!! I really wished I lived in Florida, never ever been n would love to visit one day. Will take a long time to save though because I'm unable to work and ironically it's the cold weather doesn't help me one bit
Fun video thanks Ray, for once engine designer got the starter motor position in an accessible place meaning no jacking car up and crawling underneath!
Toyota's been good about that on the newer V6s. I just had to do the starter on my 2008 ES 350 (same engine that's in this RX), it took less than an hour start to finish. Only had to remove the battery, air box, and intake tubes. Though I did cheat - I removed all the underhood plastics when I got the car.
Funny thing is I even have the same Costco Interstate battery..
@@seand7349 I wish the same could be said for Toyota's V8's. The location on my Tundra was enraging, particularly when I had to replace it a 2nd time after just a few years.
@@karlschauff7989 Ughhhhh. Under the intake, right?
@@seand7349 I wish! It's under the exhaust manifold. Cooler lines and a frame also in the way...
You got this Ray.. you make it look so easy at times .
Ok you got me. I thought it was gonna be a sad mondaine Monday with no rain man video and POW just when all seemed lost we get a new video!! Now it'll be a good day.😊
Love your site. I learn so much! Thank you!
The battery looked so "clean & shiny" I thought you might spray a little black paint on the batt hold down. Like when you use both hands, scared me with trans falling on floor 2 days ago. Super great vids Ray
Love always hearing Creed in your videos.
Good job Rainman. I learned a lot. Kudos to you.
I hope Ray can get his 2k subs. Get him to 500k.
Quote of the day "snapon is expensive" , Ray the snap on guy looked at you and thought hmmm there is my holiday home in the keys secure
The starter in my old 92 Aerostar failed in a Home Depot parking lot, so I called my buddy who drove me to an auto parts store, got a starter, and crawled under and replaced it. Easy Peasy. No cramming it under the hood in those days.
I changed out the starter of my Ford van in my driveway, just crawled under with a wrench, and had it done in 5 minutes.
Anymore a starter that doesn't have to be accessed through the back bumper is considered " Easy Peasy".
Super powers wane as one ages brother. Get used to it, but do enjoy what you have while you have it. I do appreciate you, just as much as I hate starter motors. They have been one of my banes over the years, along with Bosch alternators.
Sounds like you were having a day just a day😂👍
27:55 that is just perfect for all the electronic in any car.
Toyota Glues The evap lines together to make it easier for assembly for the employees doing assembly on the intake and evap system @Rainman Ray's Repairs
Wait, what ,huh?!?!? First you have nonsensical ramblings, then a. Rubber thing caught on the nuts, and the country de grax something caught in the wrong hole? Seriously, thank you for another awesome, educational video. I truly enjoy all of your videos and have for quite awhile, and will continue to enjoy my morning coffee. You are truly a breath of fresh air... and very much enjoy your rambling... nonsensical and all.🙏💜
I'm amazed how quickly things rust, corrode and fall apart there in Florida. I live here in dry, dusty, dirty and UGLY Denver and I guess I shouldn't complain.
You need a 4 wheeler to pull the vehicles in from the parking lot - I think you have one at home - buy another one and charge it off to the company for your work needs.
He has a tow truck
Tow 4 wheeler when the flatbed takes too much time. Could waste an hour just loading and unloading the "Lexi' ". Lol
@@chrishengeveld6117 I think he has a 4 wheeler
I like the product link Thank You!
Good stuff
G'day Ray, I hope that you, the Wife Unit and the kid units all had a great Easter.
I asked the sales guy NY Auto Show. He said you have to say "Multiple Lexus vehicles". That is the only right way.
The collective noun for a group of lexuses is TOYOTA
*Toyotas, remember it is plural.
Looks super similar to the Camry I just did a few weeks ago. Was actually the easiest starter I've ever changed, amd bonus for not laying on my back under the car(have done one in the snow on an old Pontiac).
Our 03 Camry starter job was nearly identical. I hope this starter is better than the five auto parts store ones did in the Camry.
Easiest starter ever is the 3.0 ford vulcan engine IMO. A blind 2 year old could do it.
Looks like a Rust belt car. No wonder the starter failed. Great Video !
Good morning Ray
Good day to you sir 👍🐿🖐
