Excellent video. Scions are one of my favorite units. I have two noteworthy things to mention about this unit. The first is pretty competitive and the second is kind of for shits and giggles. If your opponent is lining up a charge off of or onto an objective you can rapid ingress this unit to really give your opponent an impossible dilemma. If you overwatch their charge with sustained1, lethals, and full-rolls, you're going to do some significant damage. So if they charge they get wrecked for free and if they sit still they get killed next turn anyway. Second thing about this unit is that they are the only Command Squad with the Regiment keyword. So that makes them eligible for the Reinforcements strat as long as they aren't attached to a bodyguard unit. But what you can do is give them an ogryn bodyguard and regimental attaches. Since there is no bodyguard you use the highest Toughness value (6 from the ogryn) when they're targeted, and you can tank damage on the 4++. They just become an annoying tanky 12" deep strike denial unit that can come back (with attaches and ogryn) if they die. You can also get them to 27 OC with the banner and Duty and Honor order for some objective denial. It's not super competitive, just something janky to try out for fun.
@@rileyjessup2414 You can bring them back. The verbiage of reinforcements just says "attached characters". So for example if you had 10 Scions+Command and the entire squad died you could only bring back the 10 man unit. For this same reason you can also bring Sly Marbo back from the dead. Lol. He doesn't have any "attached characters" to his unit.
@@ghost9pm407 Agree with most of this, I.e. T6, regiment so can order themselves and eligible for reinforcements but I thought you used the most common save in the unit when there are mixed saves and therefore wouldn’t be able to use the invul of the Ogryn?
@@KevinPuttock1981 I may have this wrong but I thought you could allocate saves on a per model basis as long as the unit is at full health. If you start taking wounds on one model you can't then switch to another. For example, a Drukhari Archon could tank some damage on his Shadow Field if he wanted to, but if he fails a save that player needs to continue to allocate wounds to the Archon until he's dead. Which is why you probably wouldn't want to allocate to him unless you're really desperate to save the OC on your squad or something like that.
I personally have been running a 10 man squad of scions with the scions command squad. I run 3 plasma, 3 hot-shot volley guns, and 1 melta gun. Plasma pistol on the tempestor and knife and command rod for the tempestor prime as well as the grand strat Enhancement. I love dropping them onto objectives and giving them first rank second rank to give them the maximum number of shots. Compare that with the sustained and lethals these guys get. They melt infantry on objectives. I love my scions!
@sean2549 I am aware, the second order is mostly used for take cover or move move move anyway. First rank second rank fire is my go to order for scions.
@@CadianSergeantSteel I was showing a friend your video about army transport options just last night, and I was telling him you have a huge collection, and it's all beautifully painted. :)

Probably the coolest feature about the Scion command squad is that you could use them to give orders to anyone anywhere thanks to one of the FAQs, Just drop them somewhere and give your guys (or themselves!) a surprise buff. using take cover to get 3+ armour or take aim to go to BS 2+ seem like obvious choices. Battleline Keyword is also becoming more relevant again because of pariah nexus and being able to give that to cheap (total cost not per model) 5 man squads that can show up anywhere to raise banners or whatever seems like a good use of points. really upset by how limited the command squad is in terms of what they could combo with, I'd love to give that Tempestor Prime Sustained hits 1 to some Servitors .
You can use an Infantery squad or cadian shock troop squad with a cadian Kastellan. Attach your Engineseer and the servitors and the Cadian Kastellan can give the whole thing sustained hit. 😊
Most obvious choice is First Rank Fire Second Rank Fire imo! With the hit rerolls take aim is less impactful than getting more shots. Especially those sweet plasma shots. Mathematically it does more damage with only rerolls 1s, and it's even more certain if you're getting the full rerolls to hit. The only exception when using take aim is better is if for some reason you're relying entirely on the meltagun shots to do the job.
i recently bought a 2000pt army of astra, your videos helped. i even had 1 game after a week of just gluing them, and i won by a landslide, my scions obliterated a autark wayleaper and a wave serpent. though i'm looking forward to running a scion unit attached with a scion command next match.
Great video sarge and great looking paint scheme for your scions. I love scions and think they’re really flexible as either point scorers or as a strike unit delivering a concentrated hammer strike. A 15 strong squad (command + 10 man) is a really powerful unit although not super easy to drop down due to space. Pricey but a 5 man + a command squad + a primaris psyker in a Taurox prime can be quite a deadly unit… first rank fire when the disembark and target an enemy on an objective would mean loads of shots, re-roll hits, re-roll wounds hitting on 3s. Plus the psyker can do some nasty damage with his mind bullets on max power
I use them as a suicide unit 10 man plus command 3x melta 3x plasma 1x volley. Drop them in close use first rank 2nd rank to get extra shots on rapid fire and reroll everything thats not a sustained hit it wipes most things in the game. Dont forget tour plasma pistols.
I like to give them a First Rank Fire, Second Rank fire, after they deep strike to smack a unit on an objective. Who cares about the +1 Ballistic skills when I got extra shots and free rerolls.
I drop a 10man squad with a 5man command squad with command rod and try for a huge deepstrike,i bring gaunts ghost in with them and drop first rank fire and take aim on the scions, gaunt gets whatever he needs take cover or take aim.

Unfortunately since the tempestor prime has the character keyword you can't use reinforcement on the command squad
