- Marty had a knack for writing the most clever western songs. His whole catalogue is filled with great self penned songs that will be played as long as people like to hear songs of the old west.
I'm 21 years old, and I'm going to continue listening to these ballads till I die this music must live on.
MUST LIVE ON!!!!!!!!
J. Sams quotable my friend. Words of wisdom that will remain in the brain.
Have many white children and teach them all about this, and have them pass it down, then it truly will never die. True culture isnt being preserved by anyone else in this day and age.
24 years old, feel the same way.
@@Baathist_Brawler_1565 I agree, white people should have more children. But you don’t need to be white to appreciate this music. Robbins himself was half Native American.
I had a similar experience in Milpitas, California. I shouted to Marty to sing "Mr. Shorty". Marty said his band didn't know the song. Someone said "How about you and your Guitar?" Marty sent the band to the bar, and he sang "Mr. Shorty: to a standing ovation. I had tears in my eyes.
I wish I could have experienced seeing him live, a true legend
I don’t believe this story
Wonderful story.
Very cool.
They just don't write 'em like this anymore!
The 44 spoke and it said "lead & smoke"
17 inches of flame!
My best friend passed away in 2019, me and him loved Marty robins, anytime I listen to Marty I think of my brother. This video made me happy.
Marty could paint such a picture in your mind just like you were watching a video of the song
Best country singer by a mile!
By a Texas mile.
"Nobody knew where he came from
They only knew he came in".
This is what today's music is missing, vocabulary & imagination
Exactly! Thank you. I have been trying to figure a way to describe style and class so that regular people would understand what I meant. Astute.
Cannot Beat Mary's Stories.... He's songs/stories instantly create a picture in your mind in any of his songs.
Im only 30. How i wish i couldve seen him live. Too bad music now a days isnt this good. Takes me back to days with grandpa
Still loving Marty in 2023
I'm 14 and this man is my entire life. Fly high Marty.
One of my Favourite Marty Robbins's Songs.
Such beautiful words! Marty Robbins is a fav till the grave
While on leave from the Service I bought this song & album in 1968 For My Father while He was in the Hospital. Sadly He never made home the hear it. He would have loved it. Brings back so many memories.
He represents American country music and culture in best ways. God bless his sprit. Best wishes from Turkey.
Martin David Robbinson, one of the greatest Balladeers Western Music will ever know, and one the biggest influences on my own muisc.
Brilliant delivery and story telling. Love it so much. He paints a vivid picture better than any movie could.
THAT man could sing a ballad. So much so, you could swear that you were there too.
I grew up listening to Mary Robins, never thinking that he would not be singing those beautiful ballads in the distance.
I miss that man!
As a 5'7 guy this speaks to me.
My dads greatest gift to me was his love and Marty Robbins.
He was my all time favorite and loved his Gunfighter Ballads! You can picture in your mind the ballads he sang. I cried like a baby when he cried, I just couldn't believe it!
A fabulous song by Marty, one of my all time favourites by him.

SAW MARTY, MERLE HAGGARD AND THE SONS OF THE DESSERT IN OAKLAND IN THE EARLY 1980'S. MARTY WAS THE BEST CROWD PLEASER I HAVE EVER SEEN.
God some special people of signing marty robbins is one of them. I am a true cowboy and a big fan of marty robbins
The tick on the clock said Death would wait 10 seconds more.
"It's me Mr. Shorty....your friend". My favorite Marty Robbins song! Thanks for posting!
Great song, but a sad one.
He does it great! All his songs, clear as a bell. What a treasure! 2018.
We miss you Marty...
I love all things Marty Robbins, and this song is my favorite by far! By far!
Is that a Bill Burr reference? Cuz god DAMN, that is a deep cut.
I had to look up Bill Burr, did not know the name. Don't have any idea why you would think my comment had anything to do with him. It's about Marty Robbins and the song, only.
haha, yeah I realized I was WAY off base right after I wrote that. lol
Dang, thought I had my first troll! Thanks for clearing things up. Go Marty!
@@Stenno00 God loves you
Yep, Marty Robbins is from Glendale, Arizona. If I remember correctly his home was a shanty along Grand Avenue but then most homes in the area were shanties. Our house was a shanty in Buckeye, AZ.
Thumbs up if you became Marty Robbins fan because of "Big Iron" in New Vegas :)
Wow! I’d have given anything to see him play live, let alone meet him in person!
Fantastic marty the greatest singer ever
Love him, love him, love him. ... Until we meet again! BRAVO!
I'm 24 . I love These old western songs.
The first Marty Robbins album I ever got was #1 Cowboy, this song was not on that album. But that album made me fall in love with the man and the music that I am happy to say I still love to listen to more than 25 years later. Thanks for posting this Tarquin.
Big men always make that mistake about short men I know I taught a few that lesson
Behold the greatest Balladeer of all time, there has never been another to touch him. A welcome respite from the vile modern world in which we now live. What Marty created is what is best in men.
I downloaded this song in the year 2018 and I'm still listening to it. It never gets old, but it is always new to me. 👍 👍 👍
Still loving it! 2018
Well you missed 2019 my Friend.
i love you marty...... R.I.P ..my friend
Its true ,lead,smoke,17" flame,way cool @nite.🐺🐾🐾
@clintbradley Indeed absolutely the greatest balladeer-storyteller to music, who ever lived in any type of music. I rank Marty with Elvis, Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, and Patsy Cline. Will never stop missing him but so grateful for so many wonderful posts both to enjoy listening to, and to show new listeners what there once was in music-superb, appropriate lyrics; wonderful tune; magnificent voice and style;Talent; CHARACTER.
This guy is a badass
Absolutely great. Heard it at my Grandfather's house on LP. Love it.
What a voice!
One of my favourites. I just love it.
Very well put! I agree 100%.
Genuine talent.
Great song
Still listening in 2017?
I Love this SONG!
its been 20 years since I found this song on my fathers old tape reel, Remember them?
Such a great song
amen to that my friend.
i love all this live marty tnx agin tarquin45
@BruinsBuckShot77 Different style of music but yes, Harry was a very fine songwriter. Had the pleasure of seeing him perform once by himself because his band had been waylaid in Europe somewhere. Great show.
very nice
Oh Dane ain't no shame to be nicknamed shorty. Only thing I tell folks who ask why I suggest this song😉 especially being six foot three 265 pounds. Thank you Marty robins
Anyone got this whole awesome series of the Marty Robbins show on video?
I've never heard Dean Martin sing "Mr Shorty" however, I prefer Marty's version simply because it's country & western, and Marty did it so well.
Doubt Dean Martin ever sang Mr. Shorty. Who brought that up? Loved Dean though, Glen Campbell said Dean was the definition of cool and Glen worked with them all.
2022!!
@fabfrith Marty Robbins is from Arizona
it would seem 7 people did not refer to him as mister
They’re ignorant.
yes....Marty was a young man when he died 30 years ago huh???...he was 57... if he were here now he'd be 87...I like Marty...Chopper60plus that song Return to Me what version do you like Dean Martin the original or Marty????..nothing against Marty he a great singer but I like Dino's rendition cause he was the original singer
here is a lesson in good song writing kids
He looks just like my dad
Based on one of martys brothers who was short
It's funny because this song is about him kinda...since he was vertically challenged ha it's just a fun song....
love that marty. my favorite singer of all time. and i disagree. utah carol and the chair are much sadder.
The only improvement of this great ballad would be if it were made into a video or even a movie! Someone at CMT or in Nashville should check into the royalty rights to this song. I can close my eyes as I hear it and visualize the song and the story. What a great song!
I'm short too my nickname is Mr shorty
I did this at a summer camp for disabled kids one summer, and the kid playing Mr. Shorty was the slowest draw I've ever seen! The big guy plugged him easy and sort of ruined the song. We had a lot of fun at the Grand Mesa Easter Seal Camp.
Jesus youtube give this video more bandwith.
Jesus loves you
This is the saddest song ever.
Wow the auto tune was incredible back then
Manlet Anthem
