Best dash cam review on RUclips. This should be used as a template on how to review dash cams. Clear concise all features hardware and software reviewed. Good example clips. Everything included without any fluff. Thank you.
Thank you very much for the video, I really have no doubts to buy this camera, nor doubts for the set up, very clear and very understood it. Thank you so much again for your time. Greetings from Monterrey, Mexico
Appreciate the review. I just ordered it few days ago and glad to see its video quality. I switched a few settings going to 2k @ 60fps just to save a bit of memory. I may switched to full 1080p if I want to save memory.
For its built-in parking mode (without hardwiring kit), does this work the same way as the regular Rove R2 4K (i.e., turning on to record when it feels an impact even with the car ignition off)??
Interesting but how does this work? I thought it has no internal battery. If it's just plugged into the 12v outlut in the car and the car is off how would it turn on?@@jayasmrmore3687
What happened to mini HDMI out port? ROVE R2-4K has it and it's my #1 feature. I can use an external monitor. I'm a truck driver. I close curtains and see out while in bed. Can I get video through USB-C?
I’m a trucker too and I didn’t know HDMI out port could use on an external monitor… Thanks…. I have both Rove R2-4K and now the pro… definitely will be purchasing a monitor
I have a question (ROVE R2-4K Dual Dash Cam) is their a package that includes this 4k dash cam and a good quality rear view camera? all I see is the NON-4k camera combo with a rear view but none with this 4k one ?
Do you mean you are looking for a Rove dashcam with 4k front and rear? They don't have one yet. I also reviewed another dashcam with dual 4K from the company MIOFIVE. Here is the video review ruclips.net/video/bxV5oAT_EHU/видео.html
With all dashcams, they start recording once it's powered on (when you turn on ignition). Not sure why you have to do anything with the dashcam when it turns on.
The dashcam will record once you start your car. You do not need your cellphone for that. The video is recorded on the MicroSD memory card in the dashcam. If you want the video copied to your phone, you have to do that manually yourself.
Rove R2-4K Pro (compare to the Rove R2-4K) has an upgraded WiFi connection supporting 5GHz with data transfer speed up to 8Mbps (Rove R2-4K is up to 6Mbps). The rest of the dashcam looks to be the same.
I am currently reviewing their brand new Rove R2-4K Pro Dual dashcam which has a rear camera. The video will be coming in 1-2 weeks. Make sure you are subscribed to get the latest video.
What's the purpose of the supercapacitor if you have to have a connection to the battery in order to record while in parking mode? That's the whole point of the battery isn't it? No mention of this on their website that this is needed.
All dashcam need a battery source inside. It has nothing to do with parking mode recording. The battery is needed so when you turn off the ignition and power is cut off, the dashcam need to properly end the recording file or else it's lost. It's also used to save the date/clock time. A supercapacitor (or simply just a capacitor) has better operating temperature compare to a regular rechargeable battery, and it does not fail after several years. To do parking mode recording, you need a much larger battery source to power the dashcam (hence using your car battery).
True, however, the parking cable has a feature that you must set the minimum voltage that the parking mode feature will operate. It's a small box within the cable adjacent to fuse panel. You can set it at 11.8v, 12v, 12.2v or 12.4 volts. The cam will not work if your vehicle drops below the set voltage. This has been an issue for many new installs and customers blame the cam. So, don't expect this feature to work with a marginal battery or a newer vehicle that may sit for a couple of days. Once you start the vehicle, everything goes back to normal.@@dial2fast
Usually when this happens, it means the internal battery backup has failed. With the R2-4K Pro, it uses a capacitor inside (and not a rechargeable battery) and therefore it should not fail, but not saying a capacitor never fails. It's interesting you have 2 that is doing the same thing.
You can enter a unique number for the car you are installing this into. This number will be watermarked into the video recording. It's useful if you have a fleet of cars. This way when you view the video, it will show which car the video was recorded from.
There are pros and cons. I like that it records the speed and includes it in the footage as well as live display. I don’t like how lengthy the process for saving the recording is.
Yup. Turned that off right away 😂 That, the screen and the beeps. Set up and forget it's there. Once it does it's job when I need it that's all that matters.

Clear, concise, just what an instructional video should be like.
Outstanding video. While it is labeled as a review, I used it to work through the setup of my new camera. Easier to follow than the manual. Thank you!
Dude I love you! I have never in my life seen a better person to give a review!

Awesome overview of this unit, which I just purchased. This makes it faster to set up and install. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent way to review anything. I appreciate the "no bs" method.

Hi, by any chance, do you have a fix for the fisheye effect? The posts, trees, and buildings are bent inwards.
Is this Car DVR online always, does it have it's own independent sim card one can log into remotely??
For its built-in parking mode (without hardwiring kit), does this work the same way as the regular Rove R2 4K (i.e., turning on to record when it feels an impact even with the car ignition off)??
Yes it should. A lot of times you might get false impacts but better than someone doing a hit and run on your parked car without them being caught.
Interesting but how does this work? I thought it has no internal battery. If it's just plugged into the 12v outlut in the car and the car is off how would it turn on?@@jayasmrmore3687
Were you using the CPL filter in the daytime vid? Im surprised there was no glare.

Yes, USB C supports Video output.

I just got mine and when I turned it on the compass didn’t come up. Do you have to start driving somewhere to have the compass display?
Is there a way to have it automatically start video recording once I start my car? Instead of having to down select everytime the camera comes on?
With all dashcams, they start recording once it's powered on (when you turn on ignition). Not sure why you have to do anything with the dashcam when it turns on.
do you always have to turn on your cell to start recording or will it be transferred to your phone if it's off?

Yeah but can I watch live video if I’m states away.?
Great video
THANK YOU FOR SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PERFECT VIDEO APPRECIATE YOU !!!
Do you recommend the pro version or the non-pro version? There's a $60 difference, just wondering if the pro is worth the extra $60

Good job 👍
Hello sir what about the rear camera? Do they offer one?
I am currently reviewing their brand new Rove R2-4K Pro Dual dashcam which has a rear camera. The video will be coming in 1-2 weeks. Make sure you are subscribed to get the latest video.
Can you see live videos on your phone if you’re away from your car ?
No
Damn
9 meters max with a good wifi signal.
Replacing my old Rand McNally which is not 4k and not half as good as this model. Nice job

Thanks for sharing this review. May I know if there's an alternative compatible SD card that will work with this dashcam?
You can take a look at the Sandisk High Endurance Micro SD card amzn.to/3O0x0an
i have used a samsung evo select with my rove for years with no problem.
I’m wondering why is the pro cheaper than the previous version
I have 2 of this dash cam. But when i stop the car and start the car the next day. The time and date didnt save

What is the number plate feature supposed to be for

What’s everyone’s honest thoughts about this dash cam?
There are pros and cons. I like that it records the speed and includes it in the footage as well as live display. I don’t like how lengthy the process for saving the recording is.
It's my friend, an old camera
oh i see. could you please suggest a latest good one
Have to take 3 yr old tech when its only $94 vs. The $150+ prices for comparable or $300 to get superior quality
Using your phone will eat up a lot of phone data...can you have the phone off and then review the videos using your phone later on?
Can you shut off the narrator voice?
yes
Yup. Turned that off right away 😂 That, the screen and the beeps. Set up and forget it's there. Once it does it's job when I need it that's all that matters.
Great review. Thank you!
