2:17 - THANK YOU for mentioning the the polarized lens filter also needs to be adjusted (with the screen powered on, turn the filter until the correct angle blocks out the most glare from your windshield). Many reviews online and on RUclips specifically do not mention that it's not just a "fit it and forget it" item. Every polarized lens filter, for every type of camera (from dash cams to DSLRs to expensive digital movie cameras) needs to be tightly attached first and then turned to give the desired result second. And the visuals show how effective it is when the extra few seconds are used to configure it.
Ah, a fellow photography enthusiast! Yes, I even had to tell a neighbor friend about that when he complained his videos looked bad. "Did you adjust the filter?" His reply, "huh?" We got him squared away now! Thanks for watching! 😂
Good evening I appreciate your testing. I received my new rove dashcam the same model you tested here a couple of days ago. There's one thing weird that I haven't figured out but I'm not particularly tech savvy. I use that same sd card reader that you used maybe a different brand and plug it into the USB port on my 4K TV. When I record in 2k at 60 frames per second the SD card shows videos available when I use the USB card reader in the TV. However, when I try to play them an advisement comes up saying unable to read. It is a Samsung pro endurance SD card and I use them in other dash cams without errors. Interestingly, when I switch this dashcam to record in 4k using the same sd card in the same reader in the same TV it works just fine and displays all the 4k videos without errors. The other dash cams I have are all 1080 and all the same model and I use this same USB card reader and the 4K television. They work just fine and I double-checked it in between testing this one. I was just going to see if somehow the 2K with the higher frame rate might have given better license plate reading. These dash cams are pretty much hit-and-miss with obtaining license plate imaging especially at night. I may try that Cansonic Z3 Plus to better obtain license plate imaging. Thanks again.
Interesting ... I wonder why the TV would play 1080 and 4k but not 2k? Maybe the TV owners manual would have something to say about which formats it likes and dislikes?
@@hangtime_31 I couldn't find anything in the television manual that would explain it. I think most people would feel the 4K is more important so that maybe I should be happy. However, I really wanted to see the difference between the two. I believe the manual also showed other options for recording but I did not see them in the menu. Thank you again.
I bought the "non-Pro" version which I had installed today. Other than the 5G and the additional video frame rate, what are the differences between the "Pro" and "non-Pro"? So far, I'm very happy with the quality of the images on what I have. I have zero interest in how fast the WiFi download speed is and would generally transfer to the computer directly using the card.
Hi Mark, thanks for watching! Other than what you said, the non-pro has an internal battery for power during the brief times the car isn't supplying power, assuming it isn't hard wired. (mine isn't). The pro has an internal capacitor rather than a battery, so it should have a longer lifespan. The main thing I've noticed about that is the non-pro used to record for a few minutes after the car was turned off and the USB ports died, whereas now it shuts off pretty much immediately. That could be a pro or a con (pun intended). Yeah, the 5 GHz wasn't a thing for me either unless I'm in an accident and have to download the video for the police right there; usually it's going to be an SD card to computer download since it's much more speedy. Even using a USB 3.0 card reader, it took 20 minutes to download a 128 GB card maxxed out on full 4k video, so I cringe to think what it would be like trying to do that on a phone app over wifi - not interested. In the end, the main thing to me that gave the nod to the pro version was the higher framerate for a little smoother video.
I just received my pro dash cam a couple of days ago. I'm looking under my camera specifications in the owners manual. I don't know what yours lists for the chipset sensor. The pro shows a novatech 96670 and a Sony imx335. The aperture is F 1.5. I don't know how that compares to the one you have. I didn't want to recite everything in the specifications section. The display is an IPS which is a change and probably a couple of other little things. However, I noticed that your model has an HDMI out for television and the pro model that replaced yours only has a AV out. I plan to contact rove about that change as it seems to go backwards. I have a couple of eight-year-old dash cams which have an HDMI output and work great on a 1080 TV. Also, they both have a zoom of up to 15 power that will keep the setting until you power down the dash cams. Those are able to get license plates pretty well at least during the day even though they have older technology because of that zoom capability. Take care.
I bought the cpl filter and had to take it off a few days later. It reduced the glare but yhe rainbow effect made take it off. Wasted my money. However, I then find out its becasue i have tint on my windshield. So now i just deal with the reflections as the rainbow effect was much worst.
I went with the Pro, the view area is slightly more and there's no battery to die, just a capacitor, which should last longer. I'm also glad I got the CPL filter, it cuts down on windshield glare and reflections. Just remember you have to turn the filter while viewing the live image with reflections present until the reflections go away as much as possible. Thanks for watching!
How do you get your direction of travel to come up on the screen of the Dashcam next to the speed? I have the non pro version and it’s never done that.
It's been a while, but I'd have to say it's either standard with the pro, or it's somewhere in the myriad of settings. If you run through the menu you may find it but I no longer have a non-pro to check so I'm not sure. I always have mine set for the screen on the back to shut off after the first minute so it's not distracting, but as soon as you hit a button it lights up again. Thanks for watching!
Don't know, I got rid of the non-pro after going with the pro version. I suppose that might be it, or maybe the polarizing filter helps with glare off the windshield?? Or location of the camera within the car has it close to some chrome part of the car and it reflects off that?? A lot of variables to consider.
@@bucketseats007 Sorry man, it's like I tell my friends and relatives who call or text me with their computer problems ... there's just too many things going on for me to be able to really get in there and diagnose things without being able to put my eyes and hands on stuff. Remote software has solved a lot of that for me and I can help them more now, but with your issue I don't know how I can help you like this, as much as I would like to.
Just FYI the app has 2 stars and does not work for me. When I try to open the app it just sits there and does nothing. I wish I knew this before I purchased it.
Hi Willy, I've had some issues with the Windows app as well. I emailed them about it and they were very responsive; they made some changes and fixes based on my feedback, so I encourage you to get with them and see what they can do to fix it.
You will need an SD card and it should be a quality one, constant writing to the card from the camera can be hard on the card. I already had cards so I didn't get a Rove one but if you need one maybe you could try it and let us know how it goes? Thanks for watching my video! 👍
You know all the road u driven here I’ve know them all 🤣🤣 btw I’m here for the pro vs non pro I didn’t know that they release the pro version of this and cpl filter I was annoying at first at the dash reflects! I’m gonna buy the filter now
I plug ours into a USB port, so it only records when the car is running. My neighbor buddy bought the wiring kit and turned on an option to have it take pics at one frame per second even when the car is off. Apparently there's a battery sensor so the camera realizes if the car battery is getting low and then it will completely turn the camera off. He also has it set to go to video mode if the car is jarred, like hit in a parking lot, which mine won't do since it's not set up that way.
Decent but you could show how well it records license plates. That is the most important part. Seems this gets about 10 feet of license plates and does not see them well beyond that.
@@hangtime_31 I hear you. I spent a lot of time trying to get a good one that can see license plates from a good distance. I bought this same one. I think the polarized lens helped a little but I am having troubles making out license plates from the next lane over. I still need to figure out a good configuration
@@Grykes33 Well, you can always take the video, assuming you have it set at 4k to get as many pixels as you can, then save a frame and zoom in on the still image. I think it's also necessary to balance our expectations - after all, license plates really aren't that large. How far away can you accurately read a plate with nothing but your eyes?
@@hangtime_31 All valid points. That is exactly how I get the plates too, zooming in after putting on the PC. This is a decent dash cam for the price. I may still go for a more detailed lens at some point too. Good review.

Bought the pro version myself. Best dashcam I have ever used. And the uv filter is also great addition.
How about the parking mode sensibility [ this is where incidenta happens ]
and the 24 hrs continious loop recording..is it smooth ???

Great video, I have the same camera also mounted with the suction cup and I get a lot of vibration/shaking from my videos.
Any idea why? I haven't experienced that, but I've only had it in 3 vehicles so far.

That's a bummer. When you installed the filter, did you adjust it by spinning while watching the video to "tune out" the glare?
Should I get the pro one or non-pro one? They look similar to me.
