Just purchased this same dash cam (on 01.04.2025) before I seen this particular video, after performing my own research the ROVE R2-4K Dash Cam (Front & Back) is an excellent choice. I installed it in my 2018 Ford F150 King Ranch FX4 truck.
Excellent video. I'm debating between this and Viofo A229 Plus. Between the two which would you recommend not considering price as the A229 costs more.
Thank you! Ah unfortunately I have not tested the A229 so I can't comment on how it's performance or how it compares to the R2-4K Dual. I will see if we can add it to the list of to review (list is getting longer by the day! LOL) Cheers!
Hello Alex, I am glad to see someone review the Rove R2-4K dual with starvis 2. Have you done a review with the Vantrue E2 which seems to be close with this? The vantrue does not have the starvis 2 and seems to be a smaller footprint but the Rove seems to have a few different options like the starvis 2, a rotatable camera which might come in handy, a 128mb memory stick and a few options on mounting. Thoughts and don't remember if you did the Vantrue E2 or not. Thanks
Thank you Ken, glad to hear that. Ah yes it would be nice if it was smaller (the Rove) specially since I usually don't use the screen much (after setup). I think size does help if you don't plan to use the App and if you want to use the onscreen menus with full descriptions of what each option does (something that is difficult on smaller screens). I will take a look at the E2, however this is what I been telling dash cam manufacturers: Starvis 2 is such a large leap (specially for day, night gains are minimal imo) than anyone who does not upgrade to it, will be left behind (as non premium dash cam). So while the market will be there for 1 and, I think Starvis 2 will dominate the premium sector of the industry. Probably be good to make a video comparing Starvis to Starvis 2.. Cheers friend!
Thank you! Ah regarding the rear camera, nope the video is not mirrored (you can see this during the demo and during the driving video portion of the review) Cheers!
Hi J! Not sure what type of group activities you are looking for with several people using the dash cam, but if you are referring to using multiples phones to connect to the WiFi, yes that can be done (one phone at a time of course lol) Cheers!
@@johna1060 Hi! Ah your are looking for remote monitoring, Wi-Fi Dash cams do not let you access the dash cam when you are away from it. What you are looking for is a Cloud connected dash cam like this one ruclips.net/video/EBLvq2X2SwQ/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/pe7MCtun4So/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/8Q-u3PHmfls/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/BAEH4f2ulEs/видео.html (live video, tracking, notifications to your phone etc.) Cheers!
I believe that Hardware Kit is only needed if you don't have a cigarette lighter that stays hot when the vehicle is turned off. In my case my cigarette lighter plug stays hot even with the ignition off. So i didn't need that hardware kit. I know some of those power adapters do turn off when the ignition is turned off.
Hi! If your cigarette lighter port turns off and on when you turn on and off you car, then the dash cam will come on and off with the car (so it will not drain you car battery). But if your plug is always on even when the car is off, I use one of this ones amzn.to/3BofzJI to control the lighter port manually and ensure the dash cam turns off and not drain the car's battery, Cheers!
@@AlexAutoFun In my particular case my Cigarette lighter stays on. Even with the ignition off which is nice because I didn't need the hardware kit. I believe the hardware kit if needed would pull the same amount of energy as a cigarette lighter connection would.
@@ginky4 Hi! Yes the hardwire kit uses the same amount of power than the cigarette lighter plug, the difference is that the hardwire kit is able to pull power from the vehicle when the vehicle is off where the cigarette lighter plug does not (assuming that it is switched on your vehicle). Hi M! Ah yes unfortunately there are no dash cams in the market yet with 4K for the rear (only interpolated 4K). Current dash cams use AHD 2.0 for the rear camera signal and that standard is limited to FHD. Not long ago the same company that developed AHD announced that they have began working on AHD 3.0 which will support higher resolutions (however considering 2.0 took many years to be released, it will be a while till we see 3.0). Once that standard comes out, we will eventually see dash cam manufacturers began to use it at some point in the future (which I don't see coming any time soon). Cheers!
Hi F! I never stated that this is a native 4K sensor or that is not. Rove does not disclose the sensor model they are using so I cannot say what is inside the dash cam only what is shown in the settings menu and the driving video (which is 4K at 30fps). If you need a native sensor I would recommend one like this one ruclips.net/video/3mB_gHIjXqo/видео.html but again keep in mind that just because a manufacturer says that they are using a particular sensor model, it does not guarantee that is actually what is inside, here is a good example ruclips.net/video/GQZne5fsWw0/видео.html I do have more teardown videos coming so we can confirm what is actually inside more dash cams as well as a dedicated video where I cover native sensor resolution in more detail, stay tuned.
