How Do Marijuana-Infused Topical's Work?
Cannabis-infused lotions, salves, oils, sprays, and other transdermal methods of relief work by binding to a network of receptors called CB2. These CB2 receptors are found throughout the body and are activated either by the body’s naturally-occurring endocannabinoids or by cannabis compounds known as “phytocannabinoids” (e.g., THC, CBD).
Even if a topical contains active THC, it still won’t induce that intense “high” you’d get from smoking or ingesting cannabis. With most topicals, cannabinoids can’t breach the bloodstream; they only penetrate to the system of CB2 receptors. Transdermal patches, however, do deliver cannabinoids to the bloodstream and could have psychoactive effects with a high enough THC content.

Liz, I made this about 6 months ago and it truly is amazing. I had all the ingredients on hand and my husband makes his own CBD oil. We have given this salve to several of our family and they can’t believe how well it gets rid of inflammation and the pain!! We are making it again in a few days. Thank you so much for sharing your recipe and instructional video. You are a blessing to many.
How does he make the CBD oil?
This cream should be available to everybody who suffers pain. 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
I am making CBD lotion as we speak, I put it on the stove and turned you on Liz because you are my favorite!!! Other people have recipes also,, but nobody has your beautiful personality and sunshine!!!❤
This recipe is nearly identical to mine. However I use FECO i make instead of infused CO, plus cbd isolate. In addition to the ingredients you listed, I also use arnica, calendula, menthol, ginger extract, vit e oil, plain unrefined coconutoil, & capsaicin oil (just a tiny bit of that). I add the feco at the end to be sure it doesn't overheat & destroy some of the terpenes.
Do you have a recipe, yours looks interesting too.
Wow. I made this rub this morning and I love the smell and the feel of it. I suffer from osteoarthritis and this is so wonderful. Thank you
Wonderful, I'm so happy you like it and it helps :)
gonna do it today! Can't wait!
Just curious if you think it helped..
May I please ask if you included the tapioca starch?
Man I was worried about this as I bought all the ingredients and added 1500MG of CBD oil which was expensive! I doubled up the receipe and filled up 8 2oz jars when finished. Also the only Essence oil I used was Lemongrass and I did 50 drops. It smells perfect! and the consistantsy is perfect as well. This is with out a doubt better than anything I have purchased at the dispensary at $80 a jar. I'm into everything for about $220 but have enough ingredients to do at least 4 more batches less the CBD oil. I think one major importance when making this is to definitely use a mixer as she described. It makes it so much smoother and fluffy and just gives it that great look and feel you get from the expensive vendors selling CBD cream or balm. It's doesn't leave your skin oily and mixes great into the king with a very smooth texture. I can't thank you enough!!!!! I've been spending a good $200 a month on pain cream for my joints and this works su much better and a ton cheaper!
That's wonderful :) I'm so happy the video helped you.
Maybe next time but CBD shake/trim and decarb yourself adding your own oil. Might be cheaper fernvalleyfarms.com they have great sales.
Grow your own herb, expensive to start unless doing outdoor but saves thousands over time.
Add menthol crystals.... your welcome :)
How great that you got some pain relief & from something you made yourself!
When I finally found a CBD product that worked for my nerve pain, it was literally life changing. But to make my own, as you have…and potentially be able to share it with others…would really be the bees knees!
Kudos to Diamond Delight Edibles for sharing the wisdom…!
Liz, I love your videos! I can tell you've put a lot of time into learning about all different aspects of creating cannabis infused things and it's so helpful. I have a chronic illness that has me in some amount of pain every day and cannabis is a huge part of my life now because of it. Thanks for your expertise and for helping me find a new creative project to try out!
Thank you very much :) It's great to hear my videos are helping others .
Hey Liz, I realize this is one of your older videos but figured I'd comment anyway.
7:04 I had a thought while noticing that the beeswax pellets are the last to melt. Maybe it would be easier to melt the beeswax pellets first (melting temp of 144-147°F) then add the cocoa butter (93-101°F), shea butter (90°F) then finish off with the infused coconut oil (78°F)
That _should_ minimize the chance of burning the cocoa and shea butters and prevent some of us from getting the urge to turn the heat up to speed along the process. 🙋♀️
I just ordered the supplies to make a batch and can't wait to give this a try! Thank you for sharing these discoveries with us! 💚
I made this again today and it’s amazing! Love love love it. I really screwed up the first try using minute tapioca. Use the tapioca starch/flour NOT minute tapioca. I knew it was wrong the second after I put it it in. Liz, you are amazing, I’m hooked on your videos!
Hi, Can you please share the link to your infused coconut oil? Is it different from your canna butter recipe? Thank you.
When I add the tapioca starch it always comes out lumpy no matter how much I stir or use beaters. Any suggestions, a substitute perhaps? I really like the non greasy feel. Thanks!!
Hello again Liz, sorry to hear about your painful muscles. I do say however, I am waiting to get this formula going ASAP....THANK YOU
I make something like this. It works great. I also use “Trauma Oil” in the base. It’s a combo of Calendula, St. John’s Wort, and Arnica infused oils. I also add German Chamomile, great for inflammation.
We Are Legion could you share trauma oil recipe?
Hi there was a great recipe thank you much for sharing the question I have is where do you get the recipe for the infused coconut please and thank you
Tty using micron filter bags instead of using cheesecloth. Cheesecloth absorbs too much of your products (like oil, butter, tincture) micron bags won't. 😊
Ty Liz for another great video!! I make home made soap, body butter an lotion bars. Im going to make this infused balm within the next couple days!!
Pro tip: If you want to maximize your oil yield, presoak your filter in either the carrier oil or your base oil before you pour your infusion into the filter. That'll give you the most return, reduce the loss, and the filter won't soak up your precious medications. I hope this helps. 🙏
So basically soak the cheescloth in the oil used before straining it?
@alexcalderon4508 it's not limited to oil but essentially, yes.
@@alexcalderon4508 I'd recommend fresh uninfused oil.
Thank you i may try this for pain. I can't afford to continually buy pain salve but I can certainly make my own. I am a candle maker and have made lip balms in past so this is easy to do.
Hi, Love your videos. I ordered everything to make this and was wondering if you can provide the link to make the infused coconut butter. thank you.
I know this is an old video, but I have a couple students with Ehlers Danlos, and you’re an absolute warrior to be so frank and informative about your condition. I have RA myself (which is why I’m looking up pain relief salves)
Really enjoy your videos. I’m a patient in Oregon and can’t wait to try this recipe for myself and friends. Made your lip balm recipe back in April using decarb’d shatter with peppermint & lavender EO’s and they turned out terrific. I always tell people about your channel and share your links in my cannabis groups. Thank you again and keep those recipes, tips & tricks coming💗
Thank you very much. I'm so happy the videos are helping you and others :)
👋 do u mind sharing your group. I would love to join.
Lizzzzzz OMG, it came out almost perfect. I know what small quirks I made that kept it from being perfect, so my next batch is going to be AWESOMMMME! Great Recipe, Great results. Thank you for your great videos.
Wow Liz, another success. I doubled the recipe- added a bit more beeswax and the tapioca starch lessened the greasiness.
Keep the videos coming you are Awesome. 😍😍
Thank you very much. I'm so happy you liked the recipe.
@@DiamondDelightEdibles don,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,t want to miss any of your recipes, so much pain here. I just registered. Thank you soo much !
My son also has EDS. He grows his own cannabis and I have been looking for recipes to make salves for him. Thank you for posting this video!
I hope it helps.
Hii
Do you use regular thc Marijuana or cbd?
If I use my home grown where it's content of Cannabinoids are THC 19.02 CBD .10 CBN .07 to make the infuse coconut oil needed for your recipe; would it be ok? Would it have the pain relief?
I saw one video now I'm on a roll, you an amazing person for making these videos
Same here , then I just subscribed. lol cooking more and more and loving it.
Thank you for your videos I just broke my wrist😭 I can't wait to use this.
“There was 32!” 😂🤣😂
Oh my goodness, I’ve been learning from you and watching you this whole time and didn’t realize you have Ehlers-Danlos too! I have type 3/hypermobility type. Thank you for what you’re doing, your videos have been a great help to me, I’ve been using medical marijuana to help my pain, and as you know EDS pain is excruciating. I’m learning to make my own edibles since the ones at the dispensary cost a fortune
Hello fellow zebra💜 I have been having a lot of issues lately, especially with my lower back and hips. That is why I haven't been able to make to many videos in the last 6 months😪
I'm hoping a new exercise routine helps to get back on my feet.
Take care💜💜
@@DiamondDelightEdibles I was about to comment on your video saying thank you for this recipe! ❤️ Have you tried pressure point massages with a tennis ball? Helps your feet and a lot of pain is relieved... Also recommend a massage stick and foam rolling. I wish you feel better and again, thank you for sharing this recipe. I'm currently making it at the moment 😊
Thank you very much for the suggestions. I'll look into them.
Thank you for your support. xo😘
Hello fellow Zebra's
Always my go-to recipe. Thanks, Liz. Where are you? 👍 💜 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘
Oh, that's me! Yes, a disgrace, shame on youtube! I'd love to have you back, probably with lots of others. 💜 Here's wishing you the best, and I hope you're happy and healthy, Liz. 🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘 ps I get up every morning in agony. I apply lots of your cream to my various pains and it's surprising how well it works (bursitis, fibromyalgia). It never ceases to amaze me how well it works. It works better than vaping, for me. I don't know how I've ever survived without it. You're a lifesaver, Liz. Thanks again. ✌
You know what you’re doing one of the only ones on here who do. Thank you
Thank you, and since I'm an essential oil freak, I do have all those you mentioned, lol. I just ran across your videos tonight and have watched a few, but this one was so great to see. Find plenty about edibles but this is the first I've found on making pain balms. Fibromyalgia drove me to use cannabis since I'm not a big fan of pharmaceuticals and their side effects. Again, thank you.
I love this balm! How can I prevent the turmeric from staining?
I was wondering the same thing. I'm gonna try it without the turmeric capsules I'll let you know if that helps.
@@shickman1000 what was the outcome?
Oh my Gosh Liz, been watching for almost a year now and I've watched this before but must have missed the intro. I also have EDS. Love your videos you've helped me to save a lot of money by not buying stuff from dispensaries. I'm in Florida U.S. we don't have growing rights yet, so No choice but by the weed from dispensary but at least I can now make my own products. Btw I always use pretty much the same oils or additives as you and love it! ✌💚
I too have EDS
Nice!!! I suffer from a lot of chronic pain mostly caused by inflammation. Could I use corn starch instead of the tapioca starch? Thank you 🙏🏽
Holy shit, what a gold mine i found when I subscribed to this channel! Thank you, thank you, and thank you some more ma'am. Amazing channel and amazing content.
Thank you very much. I'm so happy you subscribed :)
@@DiamondDelightEdibles The information you actually provide is sort of overwhelming. I'm finding if you watch a video twice, you'll catch something you missed the first time! Plus I love your voice and your such a beautiful face to look at😊😊😍
I like the method with the tapioca. I've never seen it done this way before, but I'm fairly new at this and would like it better, being smoother and less greasy. Thank you for your lesson.
I know this is a weird question but I gotta ask! Is there a way to make a spray? I can’t reach my middle back to apply cream and lotions. Everything I found on the market, absorbs more product than you use
Thank you I learned something new today and it's going to be very helpful thank you very much
The key is the strain of cannabis used. Cannatonic is a great strain for high CBD/lower THC. Makes the best rubs. I like to add Arnica oil at 10%
Thank you for the breakdown. I found it very easy to follow.
I've watched a couple of your videos and I love them! Thank you for sharing your wisdom in an easy-to-understand manner
Wow I really injured to video I've watch quite a few and yuk yuk yuk you are so calm and I was not intimidated at all and feel confident in making this thankbyou so much for sharing I have an awesome week

PAM ROOT
I love your hair 😍
Can you give us how to make the coconut oil part first? You have a video on that!
When do you add the tapioca starch?
At the end.
This has been the best video I’ve found on making pain balm. Thank you so much!
Love this! How can you tell how many MG are in the balms
When you buy cbd distillate you buy it usually by the gram which is 1000mg of CBD divided by the number of tins you make will give you how many milligrams per tin
Great video, Liz. My first attempt at making salve and I ran into a problem that I haven't seen addressed anywhere. I added the tapioca to make it less greasy but all my clothes, sheets, etc. turn green after applying my salve. What did I do wrong? I used coconut oil as my infuser and then mixed with beeswax and shea butter. I want to make another batch as soon as I know what I did wrong with this one. Thanks!
I love your idea of the tapioca starch, you said 1/4 of a cup, but to how much oil do you use for 1/4 of a cup? TIA
You literally inspire on a regular basis =) You're the best!
This was a very good recipe. Only ingredient needed is menthol crystals and its perfect
Love this! I have CBD Isolate powder. Can I add to this recipe? If so, what step would I add? Thanks!
I can't see why you can't add it. Thank you :)
im sorry i just made it 421 comments, 420 was perfect but i have to thank you for the video, great work! please dont hate me!

I made some for my mother inlaw for her cancer and Author rightists this stuff works great I have a question my sister lives in southern California I live in Northern California is it legal to mail her a jar?
Hello Liz, I have a two week wait for the Tumeric Tincture. Can I just use more of the capsules?
How much does this make?

About 1 cup.
You are so adorable! Your recipe really works for me and some shoulder pain I had as well as anxiety and tremors. Bless you!
Have you tried amino acids for your connective tissue? Also seamoss and a herb called comfrey root is great for tissue and bone healing in the herbal world.
Awesome. I'm so glad I found you. I've been wanting to learn to make salves. I'm in Colorado and have a garden soooo. 🙂
Please explain the first ingredient: infused coconut oil. I'm assuming it's infused with CBD? At what strength? Thanks!
Not sure, but generally " infused" in these videos means infused with THC 😉
Thank you for the awesome recipe, it works so good on my arthritic joints and back pain. Very good video, i love how easy they are too follow🧡👍
I just love your channel , i have made this cream in the past with a different recipe that was not near as good as yours. I am so glad i found your your channel with all your awesome recipes. I can't wait to try everything you make ♥️
Excellent technique with the whipping! Thank you so much
Kia ora from New Zealand Liz… can you use corn or rice starch if u can’t find tapioca starch?
helloIs there anything else I can use besides the tapioca starch if you could help me out please and thank you
Best mom ever....
Thanks for the recipe. Going to incorporate cannabis root ball extract and arnica too.
Most videos i see with infused coconut oil is more greenish, how was yours more creamy color?
Hi I make my own wee things, one ur video I'm defo going to try! Il let you no,fran
a few comments, the turmeric spice or capsules have a very low active percentage....a curcumin would be better as it is the active ingredient in the turmeric or the essential oil. Also not sure if y'all know this but using ANY aluminum is bad for our health, then adding hot to it, it will leach into your salve. Please use glass. There are many small glass jars available to buy or if you can find, using baby food jars works great, plus you are recycling!! The lids seal very well! Also....for your essential oils go to newdirectionsaromatics amazing prices Ive been buying from them for 15 yrs. amazon is good for your containers though!
Liz! My balm didn’t stay as a sold. Do I need to add more wax?
Hi, i find that having 3 or 4 parts oil/butters to 1 part wax makes a nice solid balm. So maybe remelt oils/balms and add more wax, let it cool and see if works, keep repeating this until u get the mixture into a sold balm. Hope this helps, maybe she will respond with a better answer :)
This looks great! I'll give it a go soon.
Even though you may not like the smell of lavender, just know it is miraculous for burns. If you put it on a burn right away you will have no redness, throbbing, soreness, nothing. Absolutely amazing stuff.
I agree with you 100% about the Lavender! We have lavender in tge garden and it smells a lot better than the Essential Oil! But I'm very new to all this and I'm learning every day. Your video is my favourite upto now and I've watched loads of DIY Balm video's. One thing that you mention intrigues me, what do you infuse into your Coconut Oil?
I'm still getting the equipment, oils, waxes etc that are essential in making the Balms & Oil's. I'm house bound so not able to get out and about and therefore I rely a lot on the internet for my gear. I ordered a couple of kilo of all natural organic Beeswax... hmmm it really smells of paraffin and it's a deeper brown! Nothing like the natural golden coloured wax that I use for my woodturning! Will it be OK to use or would I be better sourcing more from another place! Anyway enough of my questions, thank you for sharing your interesting video I've SUBSCRIBED so I won't miss any of your future video's. Take care.👍 😆 👌
Thank you very much. I infuse the coconut oil with weed.
Can you use arrowroot powder instead of tapioca?
Is the coconut oil infused with THC or CBD?
wengreen It would depend on the type of cannabis you use. I use high-CBD flower to make mine. It’s got THC, but it’s more CBD.
Haha I hate the scent of lavender too! Thank you for this, can't wait to try it out!

How do I make this without infusing the coconut oil?
Can you use cannabis infused MCT oil? Or dandelion infused grapeseed oil or both? What if I have dried lavender, can I infuse it into something to use in this as well? I have so much rose powder and lavender I grow.
Yes you can.
Thank your for being the first video I didn’t get bored within 3 seconds of watching
I made up a batch using jojoba oil as the carrier oil. Much to my surprise this stuff actually works. I have a lot of foot pain at night (type 2 diabetes). Within a few minutes of rubbing it in, the pain has lessened enough for me to go back to sleep.
thanks heaps for sharing this recipe.
