Iirc, it was his great-great grandson, thru Alfred the Great (Alfred's grandson), that finally realized that dream, though Alfred himself made great advances towards that goal. Alfred enjoys a revered place in English history, but the location of his remains is unknown. They were moved at least four times, for different reasons. The last known place was a Catholic abbey that was destroyed when England broke from Rome. A prison was later built on the site, and there were reports of the prisoners who dug the foundations finding bones that they discarded, not knowing who they were (Alfred, his wife and a son). A site had a local legend of being Alfred, but it was exhumed and it wasn't him. There are now markers where he was buried under the altar of the old abbey that you can visit, and there are statues of him, but the actual remains of one of England's greatest and most influential kings are lost to time, sadly.

What Ragnar told Borg and Horik applies to the Lagertha situation. Why start a civil war over some land when there's so much out there? Why weaken their chance for new land?
Ragnar certainly wasn't worried about unnecessary bloodshed when it came to Jarl Borg usurping his earldom. Lagertha brought her people to save Ragnar and his family when without her they would've been tracked down and slaughtered by Jarl Borg. And that was before they reestablished any sort of relationship and Lagertha's husband had her beaten for it. Ragnar and Lagertha could've easily taken back Hedeby. It was already mentioned that Lagertha had all of the fighting men/shield maidens with her in Wessex and they were loyal to her, I'm sure they could've blitzed Hedeby and taken it back. I'm watching the episodes just before watching these videos so I don't know what will happen but I hope this comes back to bite Ragnar.
“They need to stop going to England” “That’s not gonna happen, their next trip is to, they’re going to friggin Paris” “I know but they need to stop going to Wessex” You guys know that Paris is in France/Francia, not England right?
Yeah, what I took from the Bjorn and Rollo fight was that Rollo was basically aiming to self abuse via getting his ass handed to him. He feels to blame for Siggy's death and Bjorn chose to fight him because he didn't want his uncle getting killed by someone for being a drunken mess and starting fights. Also yes. When Ragnar asked of what would become of his sons to the seer. The seer responded many things "One of them will marry the daughter of a king", "Another will discover and sail around the sea that has no tides." and "All this and more". Ragnar also asks what of Bjorn and the seer responded by telling him he was talking of Bjorn. So at lease one of those the seer has seen Bjorn do.
I think somehow Ragnar doesn't want Lagertha to be earl because then she won't need him and won't stick around anymore. Ragnar and Ecbert are great characters who are also super selfish
So ekbert wasn't trying to prove any points. He used the Vikings to help secure mercia as a client state for him. He used the vikings to expose everyone who would ever lift a hand to oppose his rule. Not only does he get to kill them in such a way that he appears to be 100% in the right for doing so, but he gets to seize all their wealth and land at the same time. Every bit as important, he also protected his country from further raids (till now) without a fight. Avoided conflict, protected his lands and people, increased his personal wealth, eliminated any internal threats, ball tee'd a hot chick, AND claimed a client state... Not a bad days work ;). Also, children being something to protect and "our future" is a recent concept that is less than 150 yrs old. Children who were too young to work were largely considered a resource drain that provided no value. It's kind of amazing our species still exists to be honest.
You are in for some of the best episodes of the series ( both season 3 & 4 ) Ragnar and Rollo going to Paris, will have a significant effect on the show ( and the real historical effects of that, is still seen in modern day history ) That this series is based on Real historic facts, makes this series so much more better, than other series just based on pure fantasy.
There is something that I've never thought about Ragnar, but it jumped into my minf this very instant: In the third season, Ragnar has some "Jack Sparrowish" behaviour, especially in the way he is lokking at things, people, or the way he moves his hands sometimes (PS: I Steven thought the same, I haven't noticed yet, I wrote it when Ragnar and Lagertha were with Kalf)
after season 2 I came to the conclusion that I would always believe that Ragnar is right, no matter how much of a D-bag he was in situations. PS: That flip tho 😍
You guys should check out this show on Netflix called kingdom. It’s a original show from them set during the joseon era in Korea. It’s like game of thrones meets walking dead.
A new show out Raised by Wolves has Travis Fimmels in it . The guy playing Ragnar. It looks good but only 3 episodes in. Might be a show worth watching as its HBO aswell
I find it interesting that both ecbert and ragnar had to deal with internal problems and the one thing kings don't like doing is dealing with internal problems. And both did it smart. Ecbert got rid of the vikings to keep the public happy got rid of nobles who question him and got greater control of mercia so if the vikings come back they have to deal with a stronger force. Ragnar played it smart to he wants to raid paris not deal with chance of bloodshed. Lagertha says ragnar owes her but he doesn't because she came of her own choice and ragnar is king so he doesn't have to listen to her. Ragnar doesn't care that kalf is earl he just wants his ships and men so he threatens him with his earldom to join him on his raid.

I hate that Ragnar wouldn't help Largetha. They just risked everything for someone else's country, why not hers?
"that plow" lol....OMG. I Love u guys!
"That plow." LOL :D
I think somehow Ragnar doesn't want Lagertha to be earl because then she won't need him and won't stick around anymore. Ragnar and Ecbert are great characters who are also super selfish
That plough tho
The reactions today day u 2 were so rated (R), hilarious, and to the Queen Nikki!!! Laughing for days now I will.
Excellent summary, spot on.
Rollo's direct descendant will become king of frankia/france. That actually happened in history. That is what the seer was talking about.
I like that Nikki is writing down the prophecies..:they make sense as soon as they happen. It’s like “ohhhh, this makes sense”.
In the beginning, that was not the plan of Ecbert but with time, especially after the ritual with Lagertha He changed his mind.
Just amazing channel. 10k to 100k lets GO!
the wrestling references in this reaction made it one of the best!
The Plow...priceless :D
There is something that I've never thought about Ragnar, but it jumped into my minf this very instant: In the third season, Ragnar has some "Jack Sparrowish" behaviour, especially in the way he is lokking at things, people, or the way he moves his hands sometimes (PS: I Steven thought the same, I haven't noticed yet, I wrote it when Ragnar and Lagertha were with Kalf)
“Do you believe you are a good person?”
“Yes”
“Do you think you are corrupt?”
“Oh yes!”
after season 2 I came to the conclusion that I would always believe that Ragnar is right, no matter how much of a D-bag he was in situations.
PS: That flip tho 😍
Nikki Pokemon Trainer: "Rollo use Body Slam". And Black Sails advertiisement!
Ball tea and the plough lol. Kid friendly show guys 😂
best reaction couple in youtube
The weird blood sacrifice is where they lost Ecbert I think. It was visible to him that they can not be allies.
You guys should check out this show on Netflix called kingdom. It’s a original show from them set during the joseon era in Korea. It’s like game of thrones meets walking dead.
Just finished this episode and wow
I think Siggy got what she needed. A meaningful death.
A new show out Raised by Wolves has Travis Fimmels in it . The guy playing Ragnar. It looks good but only 3 episodes in. Might be a show worth watching as its HBO aswell
This episode and the next one are sooo important for the rest of the series
Yep, Its intresting how they still didnt get how Ragnar doesnt like earl Ignstad. Its obvious since season 2.
"no Habbard was fucking Asloug."-Nikki 2019 😉😂
Steven " That Plow " LOL
Saludos !! desde tlaxcala Mexico me encantan sus reacciones
It is funny when you say "When i hear Bear i think of Björn" because Björn means Bear. Hehe.
I think the deal was legit up until lagertha did that whole "cover ourselves & crops in cow blood" ceremony
Nikki & Steven after twitch stream be like: **WASSUP GAMERS**

Yes! Agreed! Please block him!
Whether you love him or hate him, Ecbert is just being a king and protecting his kingdom and he is a very good king.
Nikki has been on point with her predictions these last two episodes lol
Björn means bear in Swedish 🤷🏼♀️
Been off work today - just checked to see if you’ve posted yet and there it is haha. Let’s do this 👍🏼👍🏼🏴 - edit - just watched it - great reaction. Next episode is awesome BTW 😎😎
Love the reactions!
Also! I dunno if ur gonna read my comment but, in refrence to the bear in the seers prophecy I'm pretty sure it might be about Bjørn. Because Bjørn (bjorn) literally means Bear in Norwegian :D (where the show is set to be)
poor Urlander.... had his older brother who would have been king, killed in Wessex.Has the heir thrust upon him... then a few years later his father, mother and all his sisters are killed on the same night (his father killed his uncles so he has n family left), and the throne he thought he was going to inherit from his father goes to the man that killed him. All this before he's 19-20 years old.
As always you two rock it. Nikki you mentioned your shield that you received from Josuha at Below Deck on Esty, where is it? It needs to be in the shot;-)
I got notification that the gift I sent to you was delivered, plz let me know when you get it OK. Elizabeth James
Ruh-roh. Ragnar and crew are gonna be PISSED. King Ecbert better gird his loins for what's gonna happen next, though he's crafty enough to throw his noblemen under the bus here. Yikes!
This entire time I've thought y'all were saying "Baltee" and kept trying to figure out the joke. And it just hit me "ball tea" 🤢😂😂
