I guess Kalf saving Lagertha's life and being the father of their unborn child wasn't enough to atone for stealing a title. But at the end of the day they're Vikings so it makes sense.
I was taken off guard by the revelation the two French nobles were siblings too. On her first night with Count Odo she mentioned a husband so when we later saw the brother tending to her wounds I assumed he was her husband; and the fact that he was in on it is why she was able to get away with returning with whip marks all the time. Where is her husband anyway? She's been very busy. I also like the parallel of Ecbert saying he thinks God has cast him out of his grace/out of heaven with Ragnar's dream/vision of Valhalla closing its gates on him. When Ragnar was washing Yidu's hair all I could think about were the buckets of water he just dumped on the floor. It's just not a good system. Looks like Aslaug's prophecy that Ivar would be a monster is coming true. Everyone assumed it was his legs when he was born but it seems Ivar is going to be a monster in an entirely different sense (which I appreciate because I was a little worried that just because he had bad legs everyone thought that made him a monster). The characters always talk to Bjorn about his relation to Ragnar as if that's the only reason Bjorn is a beast; but take a look at his mother! Lagertha raised him after all.
The Emperor has been dependent upon Count Odo for a very long time. Now with Rollo there, Odo isn't needed and is only a liability. There is no real threat from Rollo. He would never be accepted as ruler in Paris. So yes the Emperor is happy.
It's not blood on Ragnar's mouth. It's red saliva caused by the betel nuts Yidu is giving him. And a fun fact: Peter Franzen and Jasper Pääkkönen have played brothers before too in Finnish films.
With the French Emperor I feel like it's an illustration of what power does to people. In the show they talk about how power corrupts but it also makes you paranoid and that makes you violent and irrational. The Emperor is more advanced than everyone else but he get's pushed around by smaller groups like the Vikings because he's so terrified of loosing power. So the smile at the end wasn't some kind of a plan but a sign of his continually advancing paranoia. That's why he hangs out behind his throne in the dark.
Now that you mention it Ragnar can easily be summed up by the term "fake out". In nearly all he does, always unpredictable unless you can predict unpredictability.
I think it's funny that the king coming in, actually reminds me a lot of Ragnar when he was younger. Even the hair. Think about it. 😉 I love Steven's reception of him, "King Finehair my ass!" Lmao Steven is a Ragnar ride or die.... loyal bros! I do wonder if a lot of what we saw was just hallucinations from the drugs that Edu?... Ydu? Gave him.... I do think Ragnar is getting/or is already addicted. Opium is extremely addictive. He also gets pain relief when he takes the medicine, so he wants more of it, of course not really seeing what is happening to him. I don't think that magic mushrooms are actually addictive. So it is his first brush with something much stronger.
Lagertha just slayed up on high, like she had a dragon at her back. We'd be amiss not to see that imagery as one meaning: Aslaug isn't the only woman in contention to rule Kattegat as Queen. 🛡🗡👑 I love this show.

Yeah but Vikings never used their real last name just their given viking nicknames we all know their Ragnarsons but in viking cukture once your given a nickname it becomes ur name so it's Ironside not lothbrok
The stuff ragnar get addicted to is actually opium witch china began importing araund that time. from trading with arab as medicin actually. Just a little fun Thing to keep in mind.
The guy who played Earl Kalf is on this other show called Animal Kingdom on TNT. I think it's a pretty good show, it's not for everyone though. And Lodbrok wouldn't be considered Ragnar's official last name. It's like a nickname sort of like Bjorn Ironside.
At 15:02. Fun fact: some men in China were willing to have their manhoods cut off because the rewards were enormous. If the Chinese emperor chose you as a eunuch at his court, you could work your way up the palace hierarchy. Through political alliances, sneakiness, backstabbing, subterfuge, blackmail and murdering worthy of a King Ecberth, Queen K, Kalf or a Ragnar, a eunuch could amass immense power and eye-watering riches. Some Chinese eunuchs, especially at the end of the Tang Dynasty at around Ragnar's time--the mid-800s AD--had built palaces that were 3x to 4x larger than the whole village of Kattegatt. And these were just the eunuchs. Tang Dynasty China was that fantastically rich.

At 14:36. Fascinating. The Emperor Dezong of the Tang Dynasty in China ruled up until 805 AD. The emperors after him were Xianzong and Muzong. So this girl was captured by slavers on that ship before 805 AD. Then we have the Siege of Paris by Ragnar, which happened in 845 AD. That means this Chinese girl is more than 40 years old, at the very least. This doesn't seem right. She looks younger than 40. As for Ragnar trying to conquer the Empire of China, LOL. It'll take him a good 10 years to get there and it's an empire of about 100 million people at this time. He'll need a bit more than his ragtag crew to vanquish a nation of 100 million. He can barely besiege the capital of a nation of 5 million--the French kingdom. So yeah...that ain't happening...
At 20:56. Ragnar better be careful. These two Viking earls are about to steal Floki from him. They call him a genius--which Floki really is--and see there's a rift between Ragnar and his best boat-builder. They frankly don't care if Floki killed whoever. The short dude wants to take over all of Norway, so the best way to vanquish Ragnar is by stealing his best secret weapon--Floki.
I never thought that Floki was happy about it, but season 4 is where I most hated that quuen I never know how to spell her name Ausloug or however, but Floki wasn't happy he was shocked her taking blame away from him is what makes him what he is later on and my personal least favourite Ragnars son
Don't forget that the only person Ragnar killed after he got inside Paris was the Christian priest/bishop. He uses Christianity against the Christians. So does Christianity really mean anything to him outside of it being used as a weapon?
It wasn’t Ivar’s fault, it was the other kid’s for not understanding the appropriate social settings, Ivar was simply making a statement! Joking ofc, but you cannot blame the child, so in a way it’s not his fault, technically it’s the fault of whoever put the ax there for negligence.
Idk why Bjorn jabbed at Harald... the king... about his ... "kingdom"... I mean, fame won't make your "kingdom" any bigger... i mean I know Harald has ambitions and Bjorn knows that... so he took some jabs at him... but was it because Harald is shorter than Bjorn?... cause Bjorn is a monster... i mean, who compares to Bjorn? Maybe Steven? Maybe comparable "kingdoms"? But yeah, that was a bit weird to me, but hilarious. Guess we will see what all was true or false about Lagertha's relationship with Caulf. Good reaction.
I think lagertha was genuinely sad about killing Kalf but she swore she would kill him

I never thought that Floki was happy about it, but season 4 is where I most hated that quuen I never know how to spell her name Ausloug or however, but Floki wasn't happy he was shocked her taking blame away from him is what makes him what he is later on and my personal least favourite Ragnars son
The scene with Ivar killing the other kid, is a direct reference to how the viking Egill killed another child while playing ball.
nikki, you didn't mumble. i heard you clearly with out doubt you said geisha.
21:44 I guess Ragnar was searching for the plug of the bath tub 😃
a haircut with a "release" LMAO
25:20 her reaction is EPIC 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Man, now I can't wait to get home from work!
Vikings yesss ❤❤
A new Vikings reaction! A great way to start the morning! Season 6 should be starting this Fall! Perfect timing. :)
its funny how steven calls Ivar The Monster when its Ivar The Boneless : )
Don't forget that the only person Ragnar killed after he got inside Paris was the Christian priest/bishop. He uses Christianity against the Christians. So does Christianity really mean anything to him outside of it being used as a weapon?
Haircut with a happy ending lol
It wasn’t Ivar’s fault, it was the other kid’s for not understanding the appropriate social settings, Ivar was simply making a statement!
Joking ofc, but you cannot blame the child, so in a way it’s not his fault, technically it’s the fault of whoever put the ax there for negligence.
Finale of GoT!!))) D.B and David stole the scene basically😌
8:07 that was hilarious
