Arctic comes from the Greek word for bear. Arktos. Arctic means "has bears." Antarctic therefore means "has no bears." Though this funny little thing is a coincidence since it got the name Antarctic (which they meant as opposite of the Arctic) before they even knew if there were bears there or not.
They have, but it's actually super expensive to extract it down there, not to mention more dangerous for both people and equipment. So Antarctic oil should be safe until the price of oil triples or quadruples.
Let's not forget how New Zealand built Scott Base, and then the bloody Americans rocked up and built their main base on the same island Scott Base was on. We were pissed. So naturally we got them to set up their Antarctic Mission in the International Antarctic Research Centre in Christchurch, ever since we've been mailing them sheep shit on the anniversary of the founding of McMurdo Station.
