I’m currently in the market for a 2001 4Runner. I found your channel by watching the “buyers guide” video on them. Great Content man! For sure gained a Sub regardless if I have a 4Runner or not yet
great vid , i always cover my alternator , fuse box and the intake box on all my cars and some times the battery, i take my cars to the carwash and use the green tire cleaner spray that they have there it works great on the engine bay, then power spray it down
Purple Power is where is it at! That's what I recommend for greasy cleaning too. I use full strength, though; and I also tried that Walmart bottle too, but had to upgrade to the $2 Home Depot version because the Purple Power would cut out the grease of the pumping mechanism of the bottle and it would seize up; on the Walmart bottle, the return spring is not strong enough to reset the trigger with a grease cutter as lubrication (extra frustrating).
Be careful with purple power. It's great stuff but if it's too strong it'll bubble your paint in a hurry. Even they recommend to keep it away from automotives.
Great Video man. I see you video today but I bought last friday a "Gun Degreaser and Engine Shine". Well; I will follow your method with this items. Thanks!
I never cleaned my engine before cuz for one just scared I might damage the engine lol. But man when you sprayed it 😳 with the hose and spray cleaner, it definitely made me feel at ease.
Be careful with purple power. It's great stuff but if it's too strong it'll bubble your paint in a hurry. It also isn't too friendly to aluminum and tends to varnish it, especially anodizing
Hello friend, I have always scare to clean my 4runner 1999 engine bay as it become very dirty. After watching I still not confident to do so. Can you assure me?
It’s an off road vehicle so it’ll see water. Don’t force any water into spots and you’ll be fine. Take it for a drive to warm it up. But do so at your own risk. I do it on all my vehicles and never had issues
No. My engine is dead now. Water had gotten into my spark plugs. Thanks to Scott Kilmer advice I saved my car. Had to replace spark plugs after spraying a whole can of WD-40 and letting it sit over night.
Would you recommend this if there is a good amount of leaked oil build up on the exhaust manifold? Definitely want to clean my 02 4Runner engine bay up a bit, but curious if the leaked oil from gasket valves would be an issue!
It’ll be fine. That oil will just burn when it leaks on the exhaust. Just don’t spray directly in the valve cover but it’s probably a small leak and won’t be an issue
I really like your videos, except this one. I would never do this to my 2002 4runner that I bought new in late 2001. Do I care if my engine looks nice? No. Would cleaning it make it function better? No. Could it screw things up? Yes. Having said that, I don't work on the truck myself, and even though it's a 4WD I almost never go off road.
Best 3rd gen 4Runner channel. Just brought one and I’m hooked
Welcome!
No wonder....first time I saw that 4runner engine bay I was like damn that's got to be the cleanest 20year engine bay!
lol...

It's been a year? Did you get a 4Runner yet?

You are good to your car hehe
Cleanliness is next to godliness . A real engine exposed no plastic covers
Great video, I’m going to do this on my ‘97. Thank you for sharing & Happy Friday.
Nice job I'm going to do my 99 Toyota 4Runner in the near future
Take extra care if it’s old/rusty haha

Yeah! Easy!
Great vid as always. Quick question how did you paint your rear bumper?
Just unbolted it and painted it with bedliner spray can rust oleum. I sanded it down with 80 grit first
I never cleaned my engine before cuz for one just scared I might damage the engine lol. But man when you sprayed it 😳 with the hose and spray cleaner, it definitely made me feel at ease.
it's a 4runner, it'll live lol. Top gear put a toyota pickup in the ocean so I'm sure we'll be ok
Looks like a good way to remove all the stuff keeping it from rusting.
Hahaha the oil is rust prevention so may don’t clean it off lol
Good thing we stay on the west coast haha.
Where did you get or buy your front bumper please? I wanted to get one of those for mine. Your 3runner looks clean 👍
It is this tacoma bumper: amzn.to/2WcOhlP
Cool man! looks good!

Do this at carwash
On the street too much contamination to the rain drains
Good point.
Awesome!
Thankd

Sounds like you got some bad spark plug wires not sealing them properly.
those look like aftermarket headlights?
Retrofits
I just replaced my valve cover gaskets. does that purple stuff work on really nasty engine bays?
yes it does
What is pure power
Purple power
@@PhoRunner thanks ,Hugh fan btw

I bet my car is clean than my house

No worries, that’s why I gave a lot of precautions. I just don’t personally take them since the 4runner lives in the wild usually.
What’s your point Markn0024? Light weight ego flare up…LAME
I would never spray water on my engine, it gets into electrical connections and will destroy them eventually.. it’s your vehicle tho🤢
Don’t be scared lol the dealership does it all the time
yeah, hosing down the engine bay? no thanks. at least run the engine to let it dry out. don't let the plastic & rubber get UV damage.
:)
