I have a Brother FS70. It has the same black leveling button on the back of the main foot. When the front of the foot starts to rise you lift the foot (needle down), press the black button in, then lower the foot. It stays level for the thick part then returns to normal when you get back to the main sewing. The FS70 isn't heavy duty but it goes through denim like a hot knife through butter.
I make my own pants. I dont use denim. I used a winter fleece. It seems like this was easier for my sewing machine to handle. I did have a Juki full setup, but that was too much, its for a factory floor. I gave that away for free. Some lucky person got it. I mucked up my singer heavy duty, and it need the timing done. I really like seeing you sew that hem. It seems like the FS60 might be a machine worth taking a look at.
Great video, love all the detail and explanation. Really answered a lot of my questions regarding this machine. Molly added some extra entertainment too haha.
Great to see the machine travel through the 12 layers on the hem. My personal nightmare when altering jeans are those thick seams. Tomorrow I am picking up one of these Brother FS60X so now I feel it is a great choice. Just a tiny hint, when I approach those thick seams I press the black button on the side of the foot which levels the foot over seams. It works on my other machines apart from they struggle with the thickness. Just wondering if you try what I say if you will still get those slip stitches. Maybe in a later video of yours, I may find out. Thank you for putting this up.
hey, did you ever pick up the machine? are you still using it if so is it still good? i heard some FS models from brother also steer some to the left and doesent sew straight stitches how is yours?
@@aleneminovic6113 Yes I bought the machine. However I prefer the "Smarter by Pfaff" mechanical model. Still have the FS60 ATM though - maybe I will sell because of my preference.
Brilliant video thanks. About to order a brother machine for my daughters birthday and this has helped me decide this machine is the right choice as she’s mentioned wanting to sew denim. Quite reassuring seeing you put it through its paces.
@@aleneminovic6113 She's been very slack. Bought it for her - She experimented with the stitches on sample - Made plans - Did nothing. It looks good and seemed to work well but has had very little use. Now daughter has gone flatting. About to pickup a desk for it actually and my wife might start using it.
Hi - I am looking at buying the Brother Extra Tough FS60X. I also looked at the Singer C430 machine. Thank you for the informative video of the Brother machine. Out of those 2 machines, which one would you recommend? They are both a similar price right now through sales. Many thanks again for your wonderful video.
One if the best reviews i have seen.i am about to return my Singer so called HD machine as it struggles to do 4 layers of Sunbrella.😮.I suspect that the gears are still plastic on the singer. Should the tool be placed Under the material as it passes over the hump to push it up and keep it closer to the foot? Am looking at this or the 80 as an alternative? Does it has metal gears??. Thanks
I’m about to unbox my FS60S tomorrow! Wonder how’s your machine been after this video? Hope this machine can last for like few years… just worried as it’s computerised.. And I shouted when Molly’s tail 😹 And thank you for patiently making this video and sharing your knowledge to the world!
Thank you. Very informative and also excellent timing as I've been thinking about buying this machine but was not sure it really would handle denim. Much appreciated 👍
Excellent! Very helpful and instructive, and I like your cat 😊. I wonder if you placed your Husqvarna tool UNDER the material as you ‘come down off the hill’ whether you’d be less likely to gat the jump stitch? (Bit dangerous - easy to miss the gap, hit the plastic, and break the needle.) I’ll go hunting for more of your videos. Thank you.
Can you adjust the foot pressure with this machine? Is it big enough to sew bags etc? Cuz this one seems to be the best for the price for beginners and I want to buy this one.
@@InStitches I fully intend to as I have 7 pairs of jeans that need turning up. Was told £10 each, but decided to buy a sewing machine for £35 and learn how to use it, this issue you presented is my first mission and will report back on progress. Keep up the great work, already learned so much watching your videos from threading to stripping the machine down :)
wonderful resource - just what i was after as I consider this machine v the next model up - the FS80X. Great to see it put through its paces and your expertise is informative and sense-making and a Molly the pussycat assistant - who is 'very helpful' bonus!
Hello! I have an FS60X too. I am just wondering....is the thread tension dial supposed to be set at around 7~8? I thought for the thicker fabric, the tension dial should be set to a lower number? A looser tension is to be used for thicker fabric, am I correct? Please do correct me.
I think I have the US version of your machine. Looks very different, but mostly same features. Haven't tried denim yet, but it did well with thick foam and several layers of thick cotton and medium weight stabilizer. I know my older machine would have come apart at the seams, especially over seams. Found it much easier to use the handwheel over thick denim seams in the past. Will probably do the same with this machine if I remember. Now you have me wanting to buy denim just to test my "strong and tough" machine.
@@InStitches thank you, I was aware of the needles for leather but wanted to check the machine can handle it. The doubled over denim suggests it would but appreciate you confirming
I got one thing to say about Brother sewing machines they're no good how about one didn't use it to three times quit this is Jack and you got the same one that I have get rid of it
That was really interesting, but I wish you'd also shown how it handles fine fabrics. And LOVE Molly! Hope her tail stays safe. Thanks for your time.

This looks impressive to me, thank you. I'd be very happy with that with such thickness of fabric.
Love the review also love your furry assistant sitting there patiently observing.
If you knew her you'd know the furry assistant is not so patient :)

Loved the part and a hammer . I'm a carpenter. I have many sizes if a small one won't work . Do I need a bigger hammer?😅
Is it really heavy duty, is it good enough to be used on daily basis? Is it durable?

I have a Brother FS101 and that is just a plastic box with a motherboard in it. I wonder if this FS60s has a decent frame
Enjoy watching your videos, I just got a Singer Capri 163 to learn on.
The slip stitch, would the tool be better under rather than over the top?
I think the fabric will still flag in that position but maybe you could try.

Hi. Generally, for heavy work the tension needs to be increased, especially when using a heavier thread and needle.

How much does it weigh with the box?

We don’t have this in the USA yet
which size needle I can buy for this machine
Any size from 60-110 should be okay. (Metric sizes)
Can this do leather?
Yes it can. There are special needles for sewing leather.
