Okay wow those rack mics are CLEAN. None of the resonance I would end up EQing out anyway. Missing sooome low end maybe for the floor toms. But much less messy source, damn. I'm impressed.
Sontronics Rack toms and Floor with the Audix.. I'd try to move the Sontronics closer to the floor and see what that does. Maybe the Sontronics might give you a better unmuddy mix and just add a little EQ to the floor. Thanks for the great videos!
Thanks for the video. I'd complete the test with a closer-to-heads positioning of the mics which in my opinion would benefit dynamics and also testing the bleeding difference of snare and cymbals on the two mics with also a risk of being out of phase. Thanks
I agree that the Audix, at that distance, sounded much better on the floor tom. I would have liked to seen more of the "off axis" rejection of cymbals by the SDCs. Great Video.
I also liked the Sontronics on the rack toms, I wouldn't need all that sub energy from the Audix in all cases. On the Sontronics the floor tom sounds like it's a different tuning and it has very short sustain, the fundamental frequency is very filtered, so it doesn't really work for me here

Yup, perhaps with a tighter tuning and slightly closer mic position, might be better for the floor tom!
The Audix sound like there is a blanket between the ears and the kit.
