Raiders fans, as chiefs fan the day we stopped trying to do the “patriots way” with gms, coach’s, and Matt cassel was when we finally got this train moving.
I would think that Josh firing a proven quarterback, Derek Carr, and bringing in a QB who has had severe physical problems... His inability to score more than 20 points in any game (except 21 points against his Uncle Billy's Patriots) might mean that Nephew Josh would be better off with Uncle Billy's team).
Carr admitted to playing poorly, but didn't take JMD brutal honesty and incessant need to have players do things his way. JMD shattered Carr emotionally and he quit.
Davis was having meetings with players like Jacobs and Adams over the last 2 weeks trying to get an idea of how the players were feeling. I think hes been thinking about letting McDaniels go for a bit now but didn't want to jump the gun. I think once it was VERY CLEAR that he had lost the locker room Davis was more willing to pull the trigger. I think Pierce is gonna change this team, maybe not win a bunch but im sure they will look much more competitive. Im glad we are gonna get to see what O'Connell can do for the offense as well, being able to throw the ball deep is gonna change things A LOT. Last year when McDaniels would let Carr throw deep the team put up points, but then he would get too conservative late in the games and not keep the pressure on while the defense would struggle. Then he got a QB who was a "Yes Man" and look what happened, the offense STINKS even when its got some very high end talent. This team is gonna look much different the rest of the season.
Rich broke down just some of the reasons why this has been a dumpster fire of epic proportions in Vegas since McDaniels was hired. He forgot to mention that the Raiders broke the record for blown double sigit leads last season. He really should have been fired at the end of last season.
@@Victor-cr5rrnot really, MD is well known to be the most cash poor owner in the league and he already has that mess with Gruden's contract to deal with
Same for the Raiders' management, they didn't need to do this. They should had taken a look at the Lions, who did precisely the same thing (trying to copy New England) with Matt Patricia & Co. and you know how they went.
I whole heartedly agree...Belicheck himself has said that he is there to win, not teach his staff to be head coaches of the future. On a side note, Matt Millen can now actually walk around somewhat unscathed in Detroit now because as much as the fan base still despises him, collectively, we the fan base have a blinding white hot rage toward Matt Patrica...I am sure he knows the next time the Eagles come to Detroit, he better skip the trip....or he'll a Detroit "welcome"....
@@jeremiahkinne5271 You are right, Millen gets a free pass when he should be put in the same bag as Patricia which I run into at the Orlando airport a couple of years ago. Seeing personally, made me dispise him more. At least, he didn't wear the pencil LOL.
Difference between Tom Brady and an average quarterback is that Brady will change the play at the line of scrimmage if he didn't like what he saw and call for different line protection. An average quarterback can't do that at an elite level.
In 2021, the Raiders lost to the Bengals in the Playoffs in OVERTIME. Bengals went to the Superbowl that year. The Raiders added Devante Adams! This was not the time to scrap everything and rebuild from scratch.
The fact his last game was against Dan Campbell who just about 1 year and 1 week ago was looking at getting canned at 1-6 last season and now is the darling of the league.
Takes time to create change. Lions only got better once they got rid of Stafford. Can't change nothing when the leader of the team is stuck in their losing ways. Raiders finally had a chance with Carr gone. Now they're stuck in limbo waiting for their Dan Campbell to finish what Patricia started.
That 1-6 is really misleading. The lions actually looked good in those losses/ were playing hard. The raiders have never looked good under McDaniels and he imploded the team.
There was no turning this around. Davis finally did what was should have been done last year. The thing is if this kept on for 4 more years it would have destroyed the raiders fan base which would actually cost Davis more the long run then just getting Mcdaniels out of there. Now you have a chance to salvage it and the fans will be there for the franchise since the owner actually listened.
@BigBrueser probably right. They would be the ones to say 'well, were both outta here this season, so we're going to just do nothing at the deadline' like some lazy bums. That or it was Mark telling them 'don't touch anything else' on the way out

@@UpsonPrattJr. I agree, I believe the chiefs statement was only out of spite. And as far as 8 head coaches go...AL did it too at the end of his tenure. Just hope Davis listens to the team this time instead of dreaming of Tom Brady.

McDaniels was a good OC. The problem is that most players aren't Tom Brady. You need a leader like Brad or Brees or Peyton Manning or Favre. You need a guy that you can hand a gameplan to for them to execute. McDaniels and Belichick worked well together because Bill is defense McDaniels offense and you has Brady there to execute (and adapt when needed). No you see both coaches with below average crybaby QBs and this is what happens

I think his stars were about to quit on him... So he had a choice to back up his stars or back up his coach. And Davis chose his players over his coach.
I still can't believe how little importance Rich gave to the fact that Jimmy G was running for his life on Monday, he missed those throws to Adams because the protection lasted like one second, go watch the game again. And while you're at it, check the guy who went diving directly into his knees, ffs, how Jimmy G didn't end with a tore ACL, no one knows. He's a good QB but you can bring Joe Montana without OLine protection and he would look just the same.
Mark Davis is a terrible owner. He should've fired McDaniels and Ziegler when they tried to get rid of Carr. That decision ended anything the team wanted to do. But he also should've retained their interim coach who took the team to the playoffs during a very difficult year. Not sure what's more stupid: Getting rid of Carr, or people who think Harden is a good player and worth the drama and picks
One move that people haven't talked much about, in 2021 the Raiders D rode the skills of Maxx Crosby and Yannick Ngakoue to have the number 1 pass rush in the NFL while blitzing the fewest amount of plays. McDaniels got rid of Ngokoue (a team Captain) in a trade for Rock Ya Sin to make room for the "blockbuster" signing of ex-Patriot Chandler Jones. They made that move despite Jones being 5 years older and far less productive than Ngokoue. The Raiders 2022 defense had no pash rush. Ngokoue had 10 sacks with the Raiders in 2021. Jones had 4.5 sacks with the Raiders in 2022. Another move indicative of how McDaniel's "genius" brain could not understand how to use the talent the team had and how his answer was to jettison younger and more productive players for "Patriot" players was when McDaniels cut undrafted third year FB and team captain Alex Ingold in favor of a couple of old Patriot running backs who wouldn't have made any other roster. Indeed, McDaniel's petty and fragile ego caused him to cut almost ALL of the Raiders team captains from 2021 - Yannick Ngakoue, Alex Ingold, Derek Carr, Richie Incognito, Maxx Crosby, Josh Jacobs, and Darren Waller. Only Crosby and Jacobs are left and we all saw how McDaniel's tried to marginalize Jacobs. He is a disgrace and never should have been hired. It was a mistake to break up the leadership and coaches and front office that carried the team through 2021.
Working under Belichek fooled them all into believing they could make it on their own elsewhere. But long story short, after Brady left, even Belichek cannot make it on his own.
After Gannon and Before Carr, the Raiders won 4.4 games a year, scoring about 16 points per game. With Carr, the Raiders won 8.8 games a year and were scoring about 26 points per game. The Raiders are back to winning 4.4 games a year and are scoring 14 points per game.
And yet the media kept saying " Jimmy just wins ". Rich was one of them. That 49er Defense won most of those games while the offense under Jimmy limped off the field winning by FG's. I'm sooooo glad Jimmy is a Raider 😂
It was apparent and very obvious how poorly coached the Raiders were by game 3 of last season. How and why anyone else other thought otherwise is confounding to most Raiders fans or people who actually watched all the games instead of just the highlights like these sports personalities.
Jon Gruden, Derek Carr, and DeVante Adams would have been able to accomplish special things. Adams would have had his best season with the Raiders under Gruden.

Brady for gm

c'mon man, you're only saying that because it's true
Exactly. Without Brady, you have a below-mediocre coaching staff and franchise.

Shadenfreude. Good word
A change was very needed as things were getting worse every week in the Locker room and on the Field!!
It’s actually the “Brady way”…. Brady kept winning without Bill & Josh, got a Superbowl without those two…Bill & Josh have losing records without Tom…

It's actually the "Weis Way". Charlie Weis tailored a system for Tom Brady back in the early 2000s. It worked for Tom for the next two decades.
@@harryhanz1690 / This is ^ accurate - Charlie created the fundamental design and language of the offensive system that is still in New England to this day

You can't compare Dan Campbell to Josh McDaniels - his approach to coaching and building a team is completely different.
That was truly a great start to this take. Nice job Rich, had me laughing out loud for real.
Mark Davis smartened up and didn't succumb to sunk cost fallacy with McDaniels
He still has to pay him.
He still owes Josh $45 million. Plus he's still paying Gruden. And he owes Jimmy G. He's paying out million$ to guys who aren't coaching or playing.
As a Colts fan, I was so happy when McDaniels backed out. I knew he was a fraud.
You definitely avoided a bullet on that one.
Tom Brady made Josh McDaniels and Bill Belichick seem like geniuses. Without Brady, they look ordinary at best.

Bill is still a great defensive mind. Look at the defenses he gave Brady for 20 years … look what he did with the Lawrence Taylor giants.
Without the defense and oline and AND HERNANDEZ AND GRONK THEY COULDN'T HAVE MADE BRADY WHO BRADY IS ALSO BRADY GOES TO TAMPA AND GUESS WHAT WHO MADE BRADY THERE BUT THE RECEIVERS AND A GOOD HARD NOSE O-LINE AND A RUNNING BACK THAT IN YEAR 2AND3 OF BRADYS REIGN JUST COLAPSE PERIOD

Maybe there is something to be said with the Raiders NFLPA report card where the players said that McDaniels is less likely to listen to players and keeping them longer. Maybe it's another coach saying "I'm from the patriots and you know nothing"
Brady's legacy continues to be felt by those who are trying to win without him
Making a lateral (or backwards) move from Carr to Jimmy G when Carr was the heart and sole of that team was criminal mismanagement.. regardless of their lack of super bowl potential with Carr
Right. Made no sense to chase Carr out of town only to go sign Jimmy G, who's SF team won in spite of him and never because of him
If you still think Jimmy was a lateral move, you need a mental health check.
worse they were some decent qb in this years draft it seem. not having the capital to grab one of them while keeping carr
Unpopular opinion, but Mayock should've been given the chance to be a standalone GM for at least one more year.
IMO, He should've been the one to lead the search for the next HC, and I would've loved to see one of his drafts free of Gruden's meddling.
Not unpopular. I agree. I thought he was doing a fine job to be honest. Felt bad he left.
The first round busts were clearly gruden picking "his guys" and all the late round gems indicate gruden got bored and actually let mayock do his job. Mayock should not have been fired and bisaiccia should have been given a chance after rallying the team like he did.
I also agree, Mayock was a decent GM.
As a Chargers fan, this gives me an insight to the future of our HC. A fresh start is needed.
And now JM is available!

Raiders fans, as chiefs fan the day we stopped trying to do the “patriots way” with gms, coach’s, and Matt cassel was when we finally got this train moving.
Perfect opening sentence 😂
I would think that Josh firing a proven quarterback, Derek Carr, and bringing in a QB who has had severe physical problems... His inability to score more than 20 points in any game (except 21 points against his Uncle Billy's Patriots) might mean that Nephew Josh would be better off with Uncle Billy's team).
I still don’t have a problem moving on from Carr, but at least have a plan if you’re going to do that other than Brady.
Carr admitted to playing poorly, but didn't take JMD brutal honesty and incessant need to have players do things his way. JMD shattered Carr emotionally and he quit.
Even as bad as Carr was last year the raider’s still had the 11th best offense in the league… now 31st.
Derek's play suffered last year because of McDaniels poor schemes and coaching, not because he suddenly couldn't play.
Hope this means we can get jacobs a deal. ( if he plays much better)
Probably because he's still on the hook for about 45 million to McDaniels
Rich broke down just some of the reasons why this has been a dumpster fire of epic proportions in Vegas since McDaniels was hired. He forgot to mention that the Raiders broke the record for blown double sigit leads last season. He really should have been fired at the end of last season.
There were rumors that Davis wanted to do so, but didn't have the cash on hand to pay off JMD contract

Yep
In 2021, the Raiders lost to the Bengals in the Playoffs in OVERTIME. Bengals went to the Superbowl that year.
The Raiders added Devante Adams!
This was not the time to scrap everything and rebuild from scratch.
No the game never went into overtime. The Raiders lost 26-19
The fact his last game was against Dan Campbell who just about 1 year and 1 week ago was looking at getting canned at 1-6 last season and now is the darling of the league.
Main difference there was that they were 1-6 but were playing hard. These raiders looked like they had stopped playing.
One of the best openings lines ever!😂
I've been a Raiders fan for 50 seasons and the last few years have not been pleasant. A change needed to be made. It's been needed.
Rich Eieson is the best at monologues!!! THE GOAT

@BigBrueser probably right. They would be the ones to say 'well, were both outta here this season, so we're going to just do nothing at the deadline' like some lazy bums. That or it was Mark telling them 'don't touch anything else' on the way out
The same way Gruden and Mayock blew 7 straight first round picks. What they did was more detrimental than anything McDaniels done

You're going a little overboard with chiefs nonsense but I got your point. Just makes you understand how great Tom Brady really was; he overcame poor coaching to still win multiple Super Bowls.

IT WAS THE BRADY WAY. As much as hate the guy he was one of the best play callers the NFL will see
I think his stars were about to quit on him...
So Mark Davis finally caught up to what we knew a year and a half ago. What a goof.

I don't really see how anyone could have predicted this to end up any other way then it did.
If the franchise has this many problems, year in, and year out, ownership is also the problem.

WINNER OF BEST OPENING LINE FOR NFL 2023
Thank you Mark
This is the best move Davis has ever made! There is know such thing as the Patriot way, its the Brady way....PERIOD!!!!
You forgot the 72 million to Jimmy Garoppolo and also signing Brian Hoyer. And not picking up Jacob's fifth year option
Working under Belichek fooled them all into believing they could make it on their own elsewhere. But long story short, after Brady left, even Belichek cannot make it on his own.
Had to listen to that amazing rundown twice, hilarious
After Gannon and Before Carr, the Raiders won 4.4 games a year, scoring about 16 points per game.
With Carr, the Raiders won 8.8 games a year and were scoring about 26 points per game.
The Raiders are back to winning 4.4 games a year and are scoring 14 points per game.
Woah. Kind of didn’t see that coming. Probably for the best. He and Bill seem to do better with each other.
