- The Alters may well be one of the best, if not the best game of 2024, at least based upon the demo. It's set on an alien world, and presents a unique game that is structured in a very compelling way.
The Alters demo (available until 17 June): store.steampow...

Hello Obsidian Ant! I'm a Lead designer of "The Alters" (and "This War of Mine"). I'm also a fan of your channel. I play space games a lot and I like to watch your reviews. I'm very happy that you liked our demo and I hope (and trust) that the full version will be as good as the premise.😊
It's awesome to hear from you! The demo was great, I'm really looking forward to playing the full game.
@@ObsidianAnt :D
Love This War of Mine. Can’t wait to play this, thanks for your work
Never heard of this game, saw this video, played the demo, day 1 purchase for me now.
I just finished the demo and your game is 🔥 ant is spot on when he said 'engaging' that's what I loved about it. Found myself really considering my responses when in conversation with the (first) alter. You know a game has got you when you are invested in the characters. I will be buying this 🤙
"Moon" 2009 Film Vibes 👍
What a superb movie Moon is! I´m just afraid some people might have missed this gem as it might not have been promoted that much.
Thought that aswell
I wish I could transfer my consciousness via cloning myself into many, got that "One Punch Man" young scientist prodigy vibes 🤔
Was that that scary movie where a team was going through an abandoned moon base? The music was awesome in that one!
@@Hombremaniac Just remembered the Movie. What a trip.
I finished playing this demo last night and it was awesome. The emotional state of the Alters intrigues me the most in that dialog choices I made did not have the intended affect until I started to consider what that Alter's life path meant.
The idea that you have to consider how your character would feel or respond to situations by having a different personality is very interesting.
Thanks for pointing me to this game. I did not know it existed.
Technically this game still doesn't exist; it's in demo . . .
@@zimriel Its branching out
This game doesn't need much marketing the same way Helldivers 2 didn't. Word of mouth was enough.
Wow this game has obviously had zero marketing, have never even heard of this.
Thank you for introducting most of us, this looks great
Yeah kinda shocking!
Much appreciation for all of the spotlights & recommendations! Will be checking this out this evening !
One of the Devs definitely spent time in Northern Ireland as a child :) To be more specific, The Giants Causway. To anyone who doesn't know what that is, go have a look...
This looks pretty good incredible! Thanks for sharing, ObsidianAnt.
I have been looking forward to playing this game since I saw the first trailer. I am a fan of the other 11bit games, Frostpunk, This War of Mine, and Anomaly. I am hoping to play the demo for a while this evening. The Alters looks like a mix of Death Stranding with the film Moon ( with Sam Rockwell ).
wow the concept how the the alters are formed is really interesting
Looks like an awesome blend of influences - from film to graphic novels, I certainly see echoes of The Martian and Moon in there. Looking forward to this (and first time I've watching this channel, so subscribing - like the Jonathan Ross doppelganger narration to your videos!).
This is a dream game for me. I love grindy sci-fi exploration games 🤓 lol
Loved the demo! Can't wait for release, it has so much awesome potential.
Demo is very promising. Interesting idea, very high production, beautiful UE rendering and amazing UI AND the story telling looks on par with the rest, can't wait!
Excelent. I finished the demo and can't wait to continue the story. Very interesting concept.
I played through the demo earlier this week and completed the devs survey. It is a fascinating game!
This looks fantastic, thanks for bringing this to our attention! Wishlisted!
YES! Exactly my thoughts, I´ve been waiting for this game since it got announced but was nto sure what to expect. The demo completely blew me away, this really is something special.
This looks freakin amazing! Can't wait for the final release!
Great video Ant. Thanks for highlighting this. I might need to take a looky.
I did not know that this game even existed. Thanks Ant. Definitely one I'm going to engage with and keep an eye on.
Looks great. I added to my wishlist on Steam. Thx Obsidian!
By the sound of things, some very interesting concepts - thanks for shining a light on the ins and outs of this game, @OA
Looks incredible!! Haha they really went all in, I can see elements from..
- Three Body Problem
- Dark Matter
- Interstellar
- The Martian
Some of the best SciFi there is
Just played it and what a concept. Loved the demo.
I wish they went for a "dangerous but vibrant & beautiful" exotic alien world design aesthetic similar to the HBO show Scavengers Reign in crafting the planet as to me the desolation and constant rain/wind makes for an alien environment that's a bit boring IMHO but perhaps there will be more visually interesting aspects of the world that's not shared in the demo. Not suggesting a cartoonish aesthetic like No Man's Sky but rather a happy medium between harsh realism and the wonder/excitement of being on an alien world...
Thanks for this Obsidian, going to check it out
11 bit studios developed games have a distinct moral implications that I absolutely love. I don't want to spoil the gameplay by downloading the demo as all 11 bit studios developed games (which I bought on steam) is to my taste. Wishing it launch soon.
When customizing the traits of a clone, we would normally assume there would be some gene hacking going on. What is original and what I love about this game's premise is that the customization happens as a result of memory hacking in the "brain map" instead of gene hacking in the genome. Your clone is specialized not because of genetic customizations, but because of personality customizations. Taking a controversial subject and making it even more controversial. Giving your clones new emotional baggage or preventing them the opportunity to address their previous baggage definitely makes your choices more nuanced. Especially because it's _you_ you're messing with. My first console was PONG. Kudos to 11bit for continuing to figure out new and novel ways to get inside my jaded OG gamer head.
The base is shaped like a giant wheel for a reason, it moves. Other videos mention that one of your main goals is enabling you mobile base to move in order to avoid the sunny side of the planet. Certainly I would assume there is a point where you leave the planet entirely, but you are also regularly moving from one area to another, each time exploring, mining, and building pylons and other machinery. The original Jan is a miner, so I guess you remain the one responsible for exploring outside and collecting resources.
Thank you so much for sharing, I'll try it now!!
Wow. This is more intriguing than I thought
Best game of 2024? How would you know? The demo?
Here's an idea, stop sending explorers/colonist before making sure the planet is safe to land on, or AKA make sure there are no 3 stars, black holes or neutron stars hiding in the system. 🤔
Very few star types can be considered as "save" to live in their systems
Looks like how the dev of MAIA wanted his game to be like but the tech/tools weren't quite there yet to make it happen.
This looks like a good showcase of how much can be done with the UE5 basic toolset & assets. Which is in no way a bad thing at all. Quite impressive actually.
Remember the trailer from last year looked really neat, but somehow this game just popped out of my mind.
1:40 Some sort of geological survey / scanning? Really nice concept.
Best game of 2024 is probably a stretch, but I really enjoyed the demo and am looking forward to the final release.
Cannot wait for this game, it looks
Incredible
I was watching some streamers play this and was really impressed. This looks like the sleeper hit of the scif fi genre for 2024. o7
You''ve got to appreciate the "Dolly" reference ;)
So someone took the premises of Multiplicity and that Simpsons episode segment "Send in the Clones" and ran with it. Looks interesting. As to how I'd feel if I encountered my clone, I think I'd hate it, certainly some character traits. But if we needed to overcome a problem, having another me would be dynamite!
My first thought was the film 'Oblivion'. This game does look intruiging.
But what happens after you've solved the problem? What happens when you don't need that person any more? You've got limited resources, like food, so then what?
Or the amazing film called Moon.
@@richardconway6425 When one problem is solved we play multiplayer games until another problem presents itself, lol. I'm going on the basis that there will be many problem encountered (as in life) to be overcome. But like I said, I'd be lousy company with myself, great with other people, but not with another me, lol. Also you said something about limited resources, well that's another problem to be overcome. See, it all falls into place?
This game looks incredible
Interesting concept.
This game looks extremely promising
If I had clones with my memories there would be…. Debauchery!
Love the 3-body problem, this game looks really promising. Keen for some more high-sci fi
This game looks great, can't wait to play it. I hope it will be available on geforce now.
OMG ive had alters on wishlist since last years game awards when it was teased. I JUMPED when i saw you post this enraged on steam that didnt notice me it came out.... but it didnt and i sat back to watch this.... im SO hyped for this game.
i try to stay away from the demo because im already set on buying it anyway, so i dont want to spoil myself and then get dissapointed when i reach the end of the demo.
And since This war of mine is one of my most favourite indie games, i know the devs care about their product.
Wow! Something genuinely interesting to play.
Looks novel and nice job. But I spend all day against time crunches and I don't want that in my games.
I had a dream where I WAS the alternate version of myself. It was the most real dream I've ever had, in fact it felt so real that when I woke up I doubted that my waking reality was the real one. It was a very strange and unique experience and I've no idea what brought it on. And that alternate version of myself... In some things I envy him, in others I do not. He was definitely not an idealized version of myself, but I could see those aspects of his life which could greatly appeal to certain parts of me.
I'm gonna play the heck out of this.
This War Of Mine is the proof that you don't need an over complicated game and a billion dollars to make an awesome game. You just need the game to have a compelling story, that can mess up with our emotions. This one's looking awesome and I can't wait to play it.
This looks really promising!
Wow looks amazing
Cool. You can make your own House of Evolution.
Looks great. But no more prerelease purchases for me. I look forward to hearing how it’s working when it’s fully baked.
4:02 would just endup playing multiplayer games with myself
As i would be aware of what to do right away based on what loadout i have and what loadout the other versions of me have, as not all games let you have completely the same loadouts
Amazing how people are just rolling with this. You could introduce the most exotic technology in the universe and people would be like….yeah, cool, but it still needs to be improved 😂
Is steam demo still available
Garry wants a word
Will it comes to consoles too or only on PC ?
Is there an actual release date yet. Does anyone know?
They should make the radiation seepage cause mutations through clones :D
It does look awesome.
Feel it will be pretty linear without replay value. But if priced accordingly I will give it a go
VR support?
I downloaded but still didn't play it, you convinced me to try it today after work.
liked and commented
Meanwhile one Starfield mission is 7 bucks
OMG, 80 mn in, and it's reallllllly weird and twisted!! Never seen that before..
the thing 2 could be best game..
Will this be on Xbox?
Never heard of it but downloading demo now to check it out thanks for the heads up. o7 😎👍
Looks interesting shame there's a time limit on leaving the planet tho hope they add an endless mode or able to extend the time before eveytime is killed 😂
Why is all that telemetry needed? It's basically farming all your data.
If there not gonna be evil Alter with goatee from the worst timeline it's missed oportunity
Why is the playable character sprinting around like hes Usain Bolt on the alien world? That looks ridiculous. 😂 Give him a motorcycle or something.
Gary...
I liked it but on thing pissed me off.

The AI or someone erased your crew DNA at the start. Why the F.
Well Colour me interested.
I think you are overrating it. I played through the demo, and there is plenty of things that need to be fixed/better. But it has potential. I hope it will be more open world, where you actually explore. They should take some inspiration from Astroneer.
I don't have this game...
Not my style but I applause quality games.
It's Death Stranding..nerfed
Look significantly like death stranding
looks great but feels clunky to play.
Mmmm interesting 🙏🏻
I just hope it's not going to be yet another $59 game with dismal mixed reviews.
I hope they don't go down the murder mystery route....you know venture back to your hamster wheel base one of your doubles is dead who done it types? Time will tell I appreciate devs trying something new.
If it were not for you, Obsidian Ant, I would have completely dismissed this game because of it's Cover Art.
No stop lying
Never any spacegames on consoles 👎🏼

Death stranding?
total sausage fest lol. no thx
Unfortunately its third person 😒
Smells like starfield
Ah no!! This is single player story game. 😢
