Attitude is everything. I use to do martial arts for fitness / hobby & I've been abused by some mothers claiming "we" just want to teach their children to hurt ppl. We only taught options ok, if your child is so irresponsible to want to hurt ppl then that is a poor reflection on their parenting.
As if you need skill or a gun to hurt people. Couple bike locks and a can of gas'll net a higher body count than walking into the building with a rifle.
Although it's completely possible to be responsible with martial arts, it must also be said that many do really just get involved in them to kick ass. After all, just ask the Asians. They have centuries of history of big dojo regions having Kung Fu gang wars because all the teenagers in the town know martial arts and want to use it and see who's is the best. My first firearm was a 1911 when I was 13. I was living in the rural swamps of Florida and the sheriffs knew I carried it on me all the time and never batted an eye because of the huge alligator population in our area. I ended up shooting 3 gators before my 14th birthday and one of the deputies was in the area when I shot my second one and we loaded it into the back of his cruiser and helped me cook it when he was off duty that night. That is how America needs to be again and it sickens me to the core to know one of my favorite States went democrat and is now erasing it's citizens rights.

I wish Canada allowed law-abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons and remove the restrictive laws. My province (Newfoundland) has had it's crime rate skyrocket in the past few years. Just last night we had an 18 year old teen jump a fence and stab an 11 year old boy in the neck. Our gang/drug violence has increased to ridiculous levels that it's hard to sum up the courage to walk into the capital city. So much envy for the USA.

Children are very creative and curious, neither should be underestimated...when they are people get hurt. In my opinion, leaving a gun out like that is a recipe for disaster. I don't see why a "gunvault" mounted near your bed is not close enough and accessible enough unless you are sleeping at a bus station where things like door locks, deadbolts, a dog, a house alarm being breached is not enough time to get ready.

Great video!!!! I'm a Philadelphia police officer (through no fault of ours) we always arrive on the scene after the fact. A cop's "immediat presence" is the only thing that really defers crime! Once a cop turns that corner and drives away, the public is on their own. If you can see a police car or an officer walking his/her beat....your safe. But if you don't see a cop car or police officer around you, then your on your own.
Freedom Inc. in Portland the cops have accepted the fact the politicians & prosecutors would rather throw a cop under a bus rather than support them... Many good officers have moved on to other opportunities... And your left with the ones hired to satisfy diversity programs.... Good Luck...

The woman he mentioned said she had a toddler. Rough definition of a toddler, is 2 - 3 years old. There's a big difference between very smart children and a toddler. As the toddler grows, she will need a better plan.
Teach them to use them and the dangers of them and you won't have to worry about them. My kids are proof of this and why even kids who are not around guns still should have some training like what if they find a gun while they are playing.

I live in the Peoole’s Democratic Republic of New Jersey…. And I was traumatized by a break in robbery we had when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. As soon as I turned 18…. I jumped all 50 hurdles NJ makes you do before you can buy a gun. I’m 37 now and thank goodness I never had to use it in a break in robbery or something similar. But I do go practice whenever the budget allows… things have gotten so expensive (May of 2023).

I strongly disagree with the "A child is not gonna figure all that out". I was building Lego from an early age on. If I had seen a gun with the mag in just once, and I would have seen them separated later? You bet your ass I would have stuck the mag in the gun. I am very much pro gun ownership, but that sentence up there? Yeah, that's bull.
The problem is that just about every kid has seen his favorite action hero manipulate a pistol slide. They WILL copy that. If you have firearms in your home, your kid MUST respect it's dangers. And if you have to go and buy a cute little piglet and shoot it in the head in front of the kid, that trauma is still better than them shooting one of their friends by accident. Personally, I will make it a point to give my kids the guns to hold (unloaded, of course) to lessen the pull of the forbidden and curiosity. I will also instruct them how to touch a gun that they don't yet know if it is unloaded or not. I will also teach them to put it down if it should be loaded. And if they wish to shoot, I will take them to the range. Children can be easily taught how to do things right. What is hard is teaching them not to do something they wish to do at all. That is why abstinence as a contraception method works so horribly bad.

I am 70 years old, female and I own a SigSauer 1911 3.3 inch barrel in .45 ACP. I chose it because I was trained to use the .45 when I was young (Army) and I can hit what I intend to hit every time. I too dont "want" to hurt anyone but no one should make the mistake that I wont defend myself and other innocent people. I dont show it (brandish) or threaten anyone. Threaten me or someone I care about and the last thing you will see in this life is that gun.
One thing that every person who uses a firearm to protect their home needs to remember. Identify your target before you fire at them. They might be your kid sneaking out of the house.
Terrible advice on the leave the magazine 10 feet away comment, get a portable gun safe, a small one, I think they make ones that read fingerprings, or at least a digital lock, trust me the extra 5 seconds is well worth the huge safety trade off.
Those are both bad ideas. Keeping your magazine across the room or keeping your gun in a safe are both bad ideas defensively. If you are not using your gun as home defense, then by all means keep it in a safe. If it is for defense than you need to be able to have it ready extremely quickly or it will do you no good. If you have children that you need to worry about than there are better options out there that meet both criteria. I'm not going to spend an hour listing them all here as it's easy to research. But if someone enters your home while you are sleeping you may not know it until they are opening your bedroom door. All the time you may have is how long it takes for them to cross your bedroom, sometimes less. Having a gun won't always save you either. But most times will at least give you a fighting chance.
You guys are spot on. I hear so many "I want to scare them." They want a shotgun because they think when they pump it, it'll scare criminals. While I think most agree on a shotgun for home defense, it should be loaded with one in the chamber. If I'm grabbing mine to protect my loved ones, someone will likely be shot. My goal isn't to simply scare criminals.
"The greatest victory is the battle not fought". Most criminals are cowards and if you can scare them off without shooting then that is much better result then having to explain yourself to the police who already label us gun owners as killers with itchy trigger fingers. I've had two break-ins in the past when I lived in a rough part of town and that son of a bitch ran out the back door as quick as a flash when they heard the pump action of my Mossberg at the top of the stairs. No-one got hurt and nothing got stolen and my landlord FINALLY replacing the dodgy back door that the criminal kicked in.

Philip D "Pelting someone into submission" is a great way to find yourself on the ass end of a civil suit. If a situation arises in which lethal force is necessary, you're better off using whatever level of force necessary to end said threat, and not worrying about whether they're alive. Just stop the threat, and call 911.
If you need a safety on your gun, you're not responsible enough to own a gun or have a child. That's a pearl of wisdom right there. I remember as a child, my dad setting a shotgun in a corner by the back door and telling me, "You see my shotgun? If you even touch it, I'll know, and I'll whip your ass." And he would have. He kept a fine coat of oil on it. Once a friend was over and he said, "Look a gun!" and put a hand on it. I had a hysterical screaming fit at him before he could even pick it up. Bravo, good, I did so several years ago and I recommend it. 357 is more fun to shoot (after a raisonable progression by 38 WC, 38 FMJ /SP and 38+P). But be aware, a 357 mag with 165 dB of noise for self defence without hearing protection will definitively destroy your ears, stay on 38 special, 156 dB destroys (a little) less...

Attitude is everything. I use to do martial arts for fitness / hobby & I've been abused by some mothers claiming "we" just want to teach their children to hurt ppl. We only taught options ok, if your child is so irresponsible to want to hurt ppl then that is a poor reflection on their parenting.
As if you need skill or a gun to hurt people. Couple bike locks and a can of gas'll net a higher body count than walking into the building with a rifle.
Although it's completely possible to be responsible with martial arts, it must also be said that many do really just get involved in them to kick ass. After all, just ask the Asians. They have centuries of history of big dojo regions having Kung Fu gang wars because all the teenagers in the town know martial arts and want to use it and see who's is the best. There's a reason why the military skimps on basic forces hand to hand training, they found that all the highschool kids they taught it to starting fighting and next thing you know your own forces are crippled because everyone was kicking each other's ass instead of working together.

I wish Canada allowed law-abiding citizens to carry concealed weapons and remove the restrictive laws. My province (Newfoundland) has had it's crime rate skyrocket in the past few years. Just last night we had an 18 year old teen jump a fence and stab an 11 year old boy in the neck. Exactly. Most kids figure out how to get around or undue child safety locks, while the parent/parents struggle with them.
Children are very creative and curious, neither should be underestimated...when they are people get hurt. In my opinion, leaving a gun out like that is a recipe for disaster. I don't see why a "gunvault" mounted near your bed is not close enough and accessible enough unless you are sleeping at a bus station where things like door locks, deadbolts, a dog, a house alarm being breached is not enough time to get ready.

There's adults that can't figure it out, and probably 90% of college students. I've seen adults struggle with slide racking. During the day, keep the gun on your person or up where they can't get to it.

I'm a Philadelphia police officer (through no fault of ours) we always arrive on the scene after the fact. A cop's "immediat presence" is the only thing that really defers crime! Once a cop turns that corner and drives away, the public is on their own.
If you can see a police car or an officer walking his/her beat....your safe. But if you don't see a cop car or police officer around you, then your on your own.
Freedom Inc. in Portland the cops have accepted the fact the politicians & prosecutors would rather throw a cop under a bus rather than support them... Many good officers have moved on to other opportunities... And your left with the ones hired to satisfy diversity programs.... Good Luck...

Children are very smart these days. Never leave a gun on the night stand and the magazine on the other side. Believe me they'll figure it out, especially w/ these smart phones parents so reluctantly let their young ones wander off with for hours
Mine are smart enough to keep their hands off. I take them shooting any time they want, so I don't have to worry about their curiosity
The woman he mentioned said she had a toddler. Rough definition of a toddler, is 2 - 3 years old. There's a big difference between very smart children and a toddler.
As the toddler grows, she will need a better plan.
Teach them to use them and the dangers of them and you won't have to worry about them. My kids are proof of this and why even kids who are not around guns still should have some training like what if they find a gun while they are playing.

I live in the Peoole’s Democratic Republic of New Jersey…. And I was traumatized by a break in robbery we had when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. As soon as I turned 18…. I jumped all 50 hurdles NJ makes you do before you can buy a gun. I’m 37 now and thank goodness I never had to use it in a break in robbery or something similar. But I do go practice whenever the budget allows… things have gotten so expensive (May of 2023).

The problem is that just about every kid has seen his favorite action hero manipulate a pistol slide. They WILL copy that.
If you have firearms in your home, your kid MUST respect it's dangers. And if you have to go and buy a cute little piglet and shoot it in the head in front of the kid, that trauma is still better than them shooting one of their friends by accident.
Personally, I will make it a point to give my kids the guns to hold (unloaded, of course) to lessen the pull of the forbidden and curiosity. I will also instruct them how to touch a gun that they don't yet know if it is unloaded or not. I will also teach them to put it down if it should be loaded. And if they wish to shoot, I will take them to the range.
Children can be easily taught how to do things right. What is hard is teaching them not to do something they wish to do at all.
That is why abstinence as a contraception method works so horribly bad.

I am 70 years old, female and I own a SigSauer 1911 3.3 inch barrel in .45 ACP. I chose it because I was trained to use the .45 when I was young (Army) and I can hit what I intend to hit every time. I too dont "want" to hurt anyone but no one should make the mistake that I wont defend myself and other innocent people. I dont show it (brandish) or threaten anyone. Threaten me or someone I care about and the last thing you will see in this life is that gun.
One thing that every person who uses a firearm to protect their home needs to remember. Identify your target before you fire at them. They might be your kid sneaking out of the house.

Terrible advice on the leave the magazine 10 feet away comment, get a portable gun safe, a small one, I think they make ones that read fingerprings, or at least a digital lock, trust me the extra 5 seconds is well worth the huge safety trade off.
Those are both bad ideas. Keeping your magazine across the room or keeping your gun in a safe are both bad ideas defensively. If you are not using your gun as home defense, then by all means keep it in a safe. If it is for defense than you need to be able to have it ready extremely quickly or it will do you no good. If you have children that you need to worry about than there are better options out there that meet both criteria. I'm not going to spend an hour listing them all here as it's easy to research. But if someone enters your home while you are sleeping you may not know it until they are opening your bedroom door. All the time you may have is how long it takes for them to cross your bedroom, sometimes less. Having a gun won't always save you either. But most times will at least give you a fighting chance.

You guys are spot on. I hear so many "I want to scare them." They want a shotgun because they think when they pump it, it'll scare criminals. While I think most agree on a shotgun for home defense, it should be loaded with one in the chamber. If I'm grabbing mine to protect my loved ones, someone will likely be shot. My goal isn't to simply scare criminals.

My wife had a similar experience. 1 pump and they run. Can't always rely on that. Some people are crazy and high, but it's much better to not have to fight.

Many of us don't feel that we NEED guns to be safe. I use mine to hunt, but with all the guns on the market the last 200 years it is unfeasible to simply ban guns. Even if it happened, there would still be millions of guns out there.

Philip D "Pelting someone into submission" is a great way to find yourself on the ass end of a civil suit. If a situation arises in which lethal force is necessary, you're better off using whatever level of force necessary to end said threat, and not worrying about whether they're alive. Just stop the threat, and call 911.

I remember as a child, my dad setting a shotgun in a corner by the back door and telling me, "You see my shotgun? If you even touch it, I'll know, and I'll whip your ass." And he would have. He kept a fine coat of oil on it. Once a friend was over and he said, "Look a gun!" and put a hand on it. I had a hysterical screaming fit at him before he could even pick it up. Bravo, good, I did so several years ago and I recommend it. 357 is more fun to shoot (after a raisonable progression by 38 WC, 38 FMJ /SP and 38+P).
But be aware, a 357 mag with 165 dB of noise for self defence without hearing protection will definitively destroy your ears, stay on 38 special, 156 dB destroys (a little) less...
