Why are you dinging these cars for being small?! They are subcompact! They are supposed to be small, and many people are looking for exactly that. Something easy to maneuver and park in a city, and slightly taller than a standard car. Dinging them for being small is like complaining a soft top convertible for not having a roof.

@@amada5891 I went from a full sized GMC 2500 van with a 5 liter down to a 2017 Mazda Cx-3 touring because I was tired of 12-17 mpg and knew gas prices were going to keep rising. I'm glad I did. Now it costs me $30 to fill up and I can drive around for 2 weeks on that. Plus it's much easier to park and much lighter so the handling feels very sporty. At first I was a little in shock with the change, but after a few weeks I feel comfortable and know I made a good decision. By the way, I get around 34-37 mpg on the hwy, and love seeing those numbers.

      A few things to consider:
Often, the crossover in question is built in a different plant for the European market.
Roads are different in Europe and even more, folks don't drive as much as the typical American driver drives.
Specifications are often HUGELY different for the American and European market.
European car buyers often buy a vehicle for the brand on the hood, NOT the price on the window sticker.

Bought a '20 ecosport SE and love it. The reviewer says awd is not an option yet with the 2.0 awd is standard. The other highlights are the 2.0 is a non-turbo engine with a good reputation. Less likely to need expensive repairs on that engine later in its life. The standard transmission instead of a cvt was a big deal because this means it can tow. It has a 2000 lb tow capacity where most of the others have none at all. I have towed two full size atv's on a trailer (maxing the 2k tow capacity) and it will handle it just fine if you manual shift it when needed for hills. I get 28mpg pretty regularly and I am happy with that. The seats are comfortable. My only gripes are no spare tire, the center cupholder location sucks (should have put it in front of the shifter), and I don't like the way the wipers go from the center of the windshield out overlapping in my view.

When reviewing a car such as a compact or subcompact vehicle you should never expect it to ride like a luxury car or have acceleration like a Bugatti. They are purpose-designed vehicles to transport people and get good gas mileage. There's too much snobbery on the RUclips reviews when it comes to saying how an inexpensive econobox should match up against a premium Lexus. The best way to know about any given car is to talk to someone who has owned it for a while ask them about their personal experience.

I wouldn't be giving mine up if not for the engine, I am currently babying it by not driving too hard and using 91 octane gas. I'm going to disagree with you somewhat on the HRV. We lived with one last year and long story short, it is not with us anymore. We ended up replacing it with a CX-5 GT just before Covid hit. There are actually things I miss about the HRV. As a second car it was great in the winter, as much room inside as the CX-5, actually more comfortable up front for me as the seats in the CX-5 are hard and narrow. Space wise, Honda finds space in a small package like magic whereas the CX-5 is quite a bit larger on the outside, but no different on the inside and without the magic seats, some things actually fit better in the HR-V. I HATED the CVT and will never buy another CVT based car... NEVER. HR-V makes a great second car, grocery getter type thing and great in the winter

While the video is clumsy and lacks depth it’s nice to see someone who isn’t just promoting vehicles and basically in PR or sales. I’d agree many of these cars are undesirable, but beauty is also in the eye of the beholder. What everyone wants is a reliable vehicle that won’t be in the shop regularly and cost lots in repair bills. Many of these vehicles definitely would fall on that list. Nissan’s CX-30 is one lower priced crossover that delivers. Step ups to the CX-5 or Subaru Forester are worth the money. Worth mention many newer cars especially crossovers have poor visibility in rear blindspots with the Forester being one exception.

And do better research because CH-R doesn’t stand for Coupe High-Rider like you said. It stands for Compact High-Rider. My aunt uses a Ford EcoSport every day and she has never had any complaints about the vehicle. I don’t get why you are so negative about these vehicles. Like is there something personal that you don’t like about them or...? I do agree that Nissans, Chevy/Buick, and Jeeps/Fiat are amongst the worst because of their unreliability. Nissans for their garbage cvt transmissions. Chevy/Buick’s for their horrible oil-burning turbocharged engines. And Fiat/Jeeps with both engine and transmission failures. Jeep Renegades are literally reskinned Fiat 500s. Toyotas, Hondas, and Mazdas are literally the most reliable car brands out there and the fact that you put them on this list just goes to show how this video is just a load of BS!

i know i own a ford so this will sound very biased but here me out.
here is what i got from your dislikes for the ford ecosport: it's slow, cramped, and gets bad mpg. every suv in this segment is slow and cramped, and while the mpg is not excusable (my escape gets the same mpg), there is no reason to not like it besides the fact that it's ugly, to me at least. it has one of the cheapest base prices, it can tow what's considered "ultra-lightweight" campers, which most if not all in this segment can't, and the 2.0 N/A engine that comes with the awd models is an old mazda engine, meaning it's a 300,000+ mile engine if taken care of. i would choose the kona/seltos and the mazda CX-3/CX-30 over it but that't about it, the rest are either unreliable, aren't rated to tow, or just not my taste. the HRV is a nice option, so is the buick but it lacks reliability.

While not sub-compact, I had a 2017 Mits Outlander GT and wish I wouldn't have traded it. Good mileage, would tow 3500 pounds, rode smooth, ample room and the best AWD system I've driven. Not to mention a 5 year BTB and 10 year drive train. Didn't hold value and traded it - should have considered it's good traits instead of worrying about retained value.

I live in Mexico and bought the 2017 Nissan Kicks manual transmission compact SUV brand new. In 4 years of ownership only had to replace the battery. Like central Texas, heat "eats" up batteries. I got a free 5-year extended warranty with the condition I bring my car in every 6 months for service. Get this, paid $12,417 USD tax, title, license out the door! The manual transmission has been fine. Fits 4 comfortably, 5 if smaller. Good trunk space. Absolutely no problems with the vehicle other than replacing the battery after 3 years which I always had to do in Texas (every 3 years).
The roads are narrow in most "Centro" areas of Mexican towns so this was a perfect little vehicle for my "narrow" street needs. The trunk lid lifts straight up which helps in narrow, tight spots.
Nissan also is one of the biggest car brands in Mexico so I liked that it would be easily serviced anywhere. It was also built in Mexico.

I walked right by the HR-V and bought a Honda Fit instead. Better (at least cleaner and more functional) styling, better visibility, a tick under 40 mpg in real-world driving (and still improving at 6k miles) mine is CVT-free (had to search for one with a manual) and $4k cheaper. That's a big payoff for driving a "hatchback" instead of a "crossover". So of course they're discontinuing it for 2021.

I bought a brand Jeep Renegade, 4x4, in Dec 2018, and I still don't regret it. I agree though, that interior cargo space is small, found this out when I couldn't fit a 70-inch tv which was new in box, I had to call Mom and her Rav4. However for mojority of my cargo needs the space is good enough. Ai like the boxy styling of the Renegade as I do like the interior layout as well. Also is the backs seat is rommier that it appears. Feedback from backseat passengers of all heights have been pleasantly surprised. I'm glad at least my Renegade was towards the bottom of this list. Don't shy away from this car.
