I voted with my wallet after looking at all the options. We have a Telluride SX-Prestige on order. Quite frankly - the only thing I don’t like about the Telluride is the wait to get what you want. The biggest disappointment for us was the new Ford Explorer. Loved the handling - but the interior had the worst interior quality and control feel of all we looked at...at any price point.
Good review but consumers should do there own research. Some of the vehicles on this list were recommended by other reviewers. I personally think CR is a bit bias.
@ One good thing about the Kia CVT though, is that it's a chain design, usually the type they put on much more expensive cars. It has a better feel as well.
The Explorer looks finally grown on me. I like the Telluride it's nice that would be my choice Kia has gotten better even CX-9 too both manufacturers are highest on my list. The Armada is beautiful but interior looks outdated and Expedition is nice looking.
Keep in mind the Explorer shown in this video was an ST model, which looks way better than the standard version, but probably garners the same criticism.
This is definitely true about the types of vehicles Honda is producing these days although the Civic is still the Civic if you can stomach the styling.

After owning a 2018 Expedition Max Limited for two years I wouldn't buy another one. The unreliable engine was a huge disappointment. Never used for towing but had cam phasers go bad multiple times (always took multiple weeks to get replacement parts) and had a high pressure fuel pump that was missing a bolt and after 15k miles the second bolt failed. Ford service was a bright spot but I'd rather not have to get if fixed as often. I'd stick with a Suburban, Yukon XL, or Sequoia if you want something reliable and something that will hold its resale value. Expedition has more passenger room but its not worth all the hassle.
Where does the VW Atlas fall? I’ve owned many VW over the years, so I know they are quirky but man it’s a smooth ride and the interior quality is top notch.
Yes they're reliable, and things work like they're supposed to, but they don't really make "good" cars, they make a generalized car for lots of people, and for those who have no passion for driving. The crv is not for people who like to drive. It's for the very very old and lame.

Buddy your are the best doing reviews .!!!. I love the way than you exposed the car .. the pros and cons of the each model, so easy ti understand and give a chance to do my own research ..etc etc. Thanh you so much .!!!😉😉
I would appreciate this being based on your opinion from your reviews vs having you speak to Consumer Reports. Thanks for all your hard work Dave!
FEEDBACK: “under the radar alternative”. Nice! A second alternative! Thank you. A perspective unique to your channel. Now just don’t drown anymore 4runners and we’ll be good.
Poppycock. They take no money from corporations.
Is the a Hyundai / Kia commercial?
Japanese make not particularly good. All suv now average ok.
Kia sure has glowed up! 💙
@ Agreed CVT just got thing for cheaply Built but expensive to repair.
@ One good thing about the Kia CVT though, is that it's a chain design, usually the type they put on much more expensive cars. It has a better feel as well.
@ Yes. But in this post, we didn't mention a model. Just CVTs in general.
@ You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Kia Telluride worth every penny!
I have a 2020 Honda Pilot and I love it!!
Brandon H were looking at the 2020 Pilot. Scared to pull the trigger.
We have the Honda Pilot too! No complaints here. Super roomy & great car
Kia and Hyundai. Kicking butt again.
That ipad is a big eye sore. And a decent trim for $55k? Overpriced. Ford Co should get their heads out of their behinds.
I’m glad the one I want, the telluride, seems to have done the best.
It’s literally sold out in my state! It’s such a hot commodity
Yep. Best SUV.
Oh yeah I want one bad!!!!
Telluride was also an automotive triple crown award winner for 2020. No new model has ever done so well! I love my new Telluride! So luxurious too!
This is definitely true about the types of vehicles Honda is producing these days although the Civic is still the Civic if you can stomach the styling.
Love the new Civic....BUT... this is about SUVs and not cars.
One that will outlast all these: 4Runner!
But what if I was leasing
I was wondering why the 4Runner didn’t make the list! I’m getting this for my next vehicle!!
harsh ride
@@ashleycorbin5920 There is nothing wrong with the 4Runner it just isn't the most practical choice due to fuel economy and in many people's opinion lack of amenities when purchased primarily just to haul the family around in. If you need and can appreciate what it offers (true 4wheel drive system ect) it's an outstanding choice and one I am grateful hasn't been changed much by Toyota.
One of the few real SUVs
This is way more informative than I expected. Good stuff
Buck enclave is the worst car u can buy. Gm can't get the engine and transmission right
I had the 2010 Buick Enclave and loved it. Just sold it when I decided to go to a two row.Went to the Hyundai Santa Fe.
I heard they are discontinuing the Buick Enclave by the end of this year.
Buick actually makes great cars.
I bought my 2009 Buick Enclave new and it still runs like a charm. Very comfortable. My only complaint is gas mileage
I bought the Hyundi Palaside and I love it. Only downside is slight wind noise when going above 60mph
Any update on your car? Still loving the Hyundai?
@@ashleyprophete1010 I am actually. It was such a huge upgrade from my old Chrysler 200 so I'm still enjoying all the bells and whistles. Very comfy ride and people always compliment it when they ride with me
@@Nicebitoftucka awesome! Thank you so much!
How the mighty have fallen. Remember when Honda dominated in quality and reliability?
Don't listen CS
The passport has a stiff ride for better suspension for offroading. it also has tons of ground clearance
The Passport was definitely tuned more for offroad use than the Pilot.
That Armada is a great truck. Gas mileage what do you expect it has a v8 engine with plenty of power.
Okay I guess my next vehicle purchase is another Kia SUV thank you for the information
I HAVE THE SAME OPTION FOR ME THE TELLURIDE........
Where does the Subaru Ascent fit in? It's probably the most underrated SUV. I own one with absolutely no regrets at all.
curious , no jeep mention ? wish I knew where the grand Cherokee fit in. ~. JDS/CT
Where does the VW Atlas fall? I’ve owned many VW over the years, so I know they are quirky but man it’s a smooth ride and the interior quality is top notch.
Kia Telluride & Infiniti QX60 great vehicles!
This is really helpful!! thanks and i got the new Ascent
According to a study Land Rover(s) has 179 faults per 100 vehicles. Please avoid these crappy, unreliable cars.
Big miss not recognizing the best on offer in the small suv category. The 2020 mazda cx-30.
2020 Mazda Cx-30 its nice.... I have one ride smooth interior design run excellent
I guess Honda’s check didn’t clear.
Says the drooling fool....
@@eskieman3948 ,great comeback fool
@@eskieman3948 u work at CR? Or have a significant relative that does?
And apparently Kia/Hyundai's did
Yes they're reliable, and things work like they're supposed to, but they don't really make "good" cars, they make a generalized car for lots of people, and for those who have no passion for driving. The crv is not for people who like to drive. It's for the very very old and lame.
Thank you for actually looking at consumer reports and reviews and reliability.!! It's the number one thing people care about but most reviewers don't even look at it haha. This was a very helpful video thank you!!
Consumer Reports is not the greatest source ,they are influenced by many factors ,take with a grain of salt
Just because they didn't like the car you like doesn't mean they are "influenced" by anything (which you fail to mention). It means they have a different opinion. People who have grown out of diapers should understand that not everyone who disagrees with them is not a good source.
Wow - stupid much? Try accusing them in public of that. Lawyer up, skippy….
CR takes NO corporate monies. Don’t think you have a clue how vehicles are evaluated. Probably miffed because you have a poorly rated SUV. Fess up Skippy!
I'm loving how triggered you guys are ,bunch of snowflakes,,and yes I enjoy driving my horribly unreliable Mercedes Benz around ,the haters just hate lol
Hyundai Santa Fe in the states lacks so much equipment compared to the Australian spec models, number one being the well proven 2.2L CRDi VGT Turbo Diesel, superb torque & decent power for a small 2.2L
They're solid, safe, reliable & dependable, suprisingly decent off road in mild/moderate situations with a good set of tires.
200hp/325lb-ft
Even better fuel economy
Combined: 30mpg
City: 25mpg
Highway: 37mpg
Vincenzo G...That's the one most people here in Korea buy too. I love that engine.
@@canadabear72 They aren't speed demons but they're solid engines.
@@ThomasFG Right! It's all that beautiful torque!
The Ford Explorer ST is great, fun to drive!
Sadly, the Explorer has many glaring weaknesses that make it a poor choice in this segment. But yes, it's fun to drive!
I didn't know it came with a 6 spd mt. The old Explorer sport 3 doors w/ 5 spd are fine as hell though
@@AIDAHAR210 It doesn't come with a stick in the US, or any market as far as I know.
@@canadabear72 sad
@@AIDAHAR210 It would be great to have the option, wouldn't it?! But nobody buys manual transmissions anymore. Even Genesis, the only conpany to offer a stick on the small lux/compact cars is getting rid of theirs this summer. Truth of our times I guess.
We've been looking to replace our old Ford Escape; I'm leaning to the Ford Edge. Our Fords have been very reliable over the last 30 years. We bought a new Honda Pilot last year - meh.
No mention of the Subaru ascent even though it scored 96 on safety
Transmission issues plague the Ascent.
Very safe.. But seems to be very unreliable. Boxster engine and CVT Transmission... Those 2 components overshadow ALL of the safety positives.
Safety and AWD is the only thing subaru has going for them. The cars themselves are not as good as they once were.
@@andybub45 The ones built in Japan are great. I have had a Forester for 10 years. Never had a problem. Had to get the gas in the airconditioner changed once . That's it.
@@comicpilot can you employ the proper word. You just seem underqualified to talk about cars. Boxster is a porsche model(that actually has a BOXER engine).
I have a 2016 Mazda CX5 and it has been a decent car over the last 4 years, good mileage and handles well.
So happy I chose the new Santa Fe..
Our neighbor liked the 2010 KIA classic body design, but did NOT purchase it because it did NOT have a 4-cyl AWD and timing CHAINS. He bought a used 2006 Honda CRV instead. The old Corollas just keep going and going, NOT anymore NO more.
Any models from VW has to be avoided as well because of poor reliability, poor acceleration, lurchy transmission, and poor customer service.
VERY helpful. Thank you.
I would not replace my Explorer with another one, way too expensive now. Kia for me.
Reason not to buy Kia telluride. Dealers are still selling over msrp. Wait a couple years for discounts to kick in. Would have already happened if production didn’t slow because of well you know
The Hyundai Palisade is also a great option
LOL ya if you want to pay their Absurd Limited Fee of 5k-9k for no reason other than its a "Limited" release. Buick Avenir is totally better and worth it than the Palisade.
Great summarized video. Thank you.
You have a Great voice
You didn't mention how many different vehicles were tested in each group. I just bought an Xc-90 Volvo that I think is pretty nice and it compares with the Audi and other luxury SUV's like Infinity and Lexus, BMW and of course Mercedes.
Did not mention price points for AWD or FWD or RWD and what is available on each
I'm amazed how low Honda has fallen. They used to be some of the most reliable vehicles and in recent years they have all kinds of reliability problems like oil dilution and oil consumption.
Cx 9 comfort fun to drive so much power n they more torque compared to telluride n palisades only d difference little more roamy than cx9.
no Toyota highlander ? I was hoping to see that on the list :)
He isn't allowed to drive one per Toyota. Till a dealer loans him one. Either way he is biased against Toyota after they screwed him.
It's Toyota, does not deserve to turn your head to.
Glad I saw your comment, I was looking to see what he said. Saved me time!
We should redefine the term "SUV".
I know, right? Most of these are either hatchbacks with the suspension jacked up an inch or two, or beefy cars with the same low ground clearance and street-hugging bumper shape as a sedan.
Thanks for alternatives!
Great Review! Are you ever going to review Awd/4x4’s at the ORV course again?
No
torn over the fact that the telluride offers more space however it’s a kia whereas the highlander is toyota 2 brands that are always thrown out there, hoping toyota adds more 3rd row space
What about the Toyota Highlander?
Horrible
The biggest problem with the HR-V is that a Honda Fit has all its' strong points and lacks several of its' weak points (orthodox rear door handles and better rearward visibility) for substantially less money ($17k base).
I would buy the new Telluride but my 2011 optima has 150k miles and is still running strong. Was debating on gifting it to my sister then buying a base model Telluride and lifting it with some large off road tires with mabey some roof lights.
Do it 🙌
What about the 2020 Honda CR-V? Issues with fuel in oil for cars in northern climate is the problem resolved?
The white Telluride on the thumbnail is Booooooooyahhhhh hot!! ✌🏾✌🏾
Do you own one? If no....what are you basing your decision on?
I liked it so much I bought one! And I have to say I prefer it to the Range Rovers I considered. As a former Audi owner, I prefer Telluride. Local dealers are getting Range Rovers , BMWs, Mercedes, Cadillac , and Lexus trade ins o new Tellurides. That indicates it's market niche. Telluride in luxury oriented, not just a family hauler for soccer moms (although I'm sure it could do an excellent job). My friends describe my telluride as a luxury limo with suv capabilities. .
alowz18 puukalot read my lips...’the white telluride on the Thumbnail’
SAV XAV cheap doesn’t get the great ratings. Real world usage does. The telluride and palisade get phenomenal ratings.
@@humbolt45 I own a Telluride EX, it is indeed fantastic for its price & luxury
The Telluride is the first and only Kia i ever wanted to buy. Its even better than the luxury counterpart the Hyundai Palisade.
The Stinger?
A suggestion missed on the small SUV is the Kia Seltos, much better than the Honda HRV and Subaru Crosstrek.
I would include text at the bottom of the screen of what vehicle you're reviewing.
I thought you did your own reviews?? Not just read out others opinions. I've always been suspect of Consumer Reports. Always remember back in the day when they rated the Toyota Matrix highly but the Pontiac Vibe as poor. Same exact vehicle with different trim built in the same factory.
I have a 2020 Kia Telluride and love it. It has the 3.8 L V-6 FWD. I get 24-25 MPG around town and 30 on the highway. I've had it a year and had "0" problems. Very comfortable to drive. Lots of room in the back for all my fly fishing gear and my dog. The only problem that I know is that you can't hardly find them at the dealer because production can't keep up with sales.
Looks like I'm getting a Kia. Lol never thought I would have said that...
Don't. Lots of engine/transmission and electrical issues. Buy a Toyota HL. This guy is a tool in these videos, and no one likes him. He only spouts who pays him the most and Toyota banned him after destroying a 4Runner he had. The kia is cheaply built still. They give you a lot for the money (when it works), but the quality is not there. Also resale plummets.
@Darkivaz-AAA All he did was read Consumer Reports results to you. That's all he ever does. So as for that part of the comment, it's dead-on.
@@killabandit Toyota Motor Corp said Wednesday it is now recalling 3.2 million vehicles worldwide to address a fuel pump issue that could result in engines stalling. Don't get me wrong I still think Toyota's generally more reliable but it almost seems like it's hit and miss these days.
Christian Jardin everyone has recalls. Be glad they did it compared to other companies that sometimes refuse. Plus that issue isn’t serious vs an engine blowing up, transmission failing like Kia has.
@@killabandit of course it is, if the car's in motion and the engine seizes. And no! Recalls are not acceptable by any company. That includes Toyota Kia and whatever other brand that exists in the world. It's very strange to discriminate over recalls. All manufacturers are 100% responsible for such defects.
Great and Thorough Video! Thanks so Much!
Kia Sorento’s are smooth as well!
I just bought a Kona ultimate (top of the line) . It was $32500.00 Canadian. Not sure where you got the $40,000.00 price. The turbo is not slow !!! I find it fairly quiet and very nice ride.
So all he did in this video is re-hash CR's opinions. Why make a video at all??
Kia and Hyundai now set the benchmark as to what other carmakers should aspire too with reliability and good customer service as well as building great vehicles. That is why they sell so many vehicles worldwide.
Hi there , what do you think of the new Hyundai Palisade Limited trim test drove one today and was actually impressed mind you last time I owed a Korean vehicle was Pony in the 80s
How about Mazda CX-30? I cannot decide between sedan or compact suv. I live in Canada where 4~5 inches of snow during winter.
I'd, at least, get an AWD. Just because it's an SUV, doesn't mean it's AWD. Subaru does well with AWD sedans.
Ad argue that mazda has one the best AWD system in the sedan section..and pretty much more reliable than subaru according to consumers reports.
