So true. Dude was so fast that UGA team didn’t even touch his jersey and UGA had solid teams back then as well. Everyone knew he was coming yet couldn’t stop him.
McFadden is absolutely the best Razorback of all time. The only other person that deserves to join the conversation is Alworth but he was before my time. People forget McFadden did not get the hoopla coming out of high school that say for example Cedric Cobbs did. I only heard Mcfadden’s name a handful of times during his high school era. My “this man is for real” moment was when he was a freshmen against Alabama & a crimson tide linebacker had the angle on McFadden by the sideline & McFadden tossed the linebacker out of bounds continued on his way down field & I thought damn that guy is something else.
@Ugly Hobo He was not a complete nfl bust he had an ok nfl career. That said he has very thin legs & taller thin legged RBs have a very difficult time running between the tackles in the nfl, he’s built more like a wide receiver than a RB when thinking NFL.
I'd say that the McFadden/Felix Jones tandem was one of the best ever in CFB - certainly in my lifetime watching the SEC. Never been so happy to see two dudes go NFL. Roll Tide anyway.
@@johnleon2594 yeah but Sanders didnt see much playing time until Thomas moved on to the NFL so for production’s sake the McFadden/Jones combo was better for obvious reasons Thomas and especially Barry Sanders are far superior players in general
IMO, that was the most talented backfield of all-time in CFB when we had Darren McFadden, Felix Jones, Peyton Hillis, and Michael Smith (who actually had a 1k+ yard season with 8 TDs in 2008 as well). Plus there's not much that needs to be said about the first three being NFL caliber talent. DMac was 4th overall pick, Felix Jones had a fairly productive career as a Cowboy, and Peyton Hillis even made the Madden Cover after his breakout season with the Browns. Regardless of how their NFL careers played out, this is no doubt my #1 CFB backfield of all-time -- hands down. And, as this season is continuing to demonstrate, you can't be productive offensively if you don't have some absolute studs up front on that O-line too. That's the biggest glaring weakness of our current team here in early October 2023.... But it's nostalgic to remember what once was though too! #WPS
@sleepyholloable That's a reasonable argument. I still vote for Arkansas' backfield being the best. Two first-rounders who had decent NFL careers and seventh-rounder in Peyton Hillis who did what he did. Also white ended up being a burnout. Funny, neither Bush nor McFadden realize their potential in the NFL.
Finished his career 2nd in rushing behind H.Walker. People fail to realize he shared carries with 2 other backs(Jones and Hillis) that went on to play in the NFL. I played against Dmac in high school. Ima huge Florida fan, but Dmac should've won that Heisman
D-Mac is the best RB Arkansas has ever had, and probably the best player the Hogs have ever had. He holds almost all of the school rushing records, and he is by-far the most decorated player to ever wear a Razorback uniform! He played for three seasons at Arkansas before leaving early to be the #4 player taken in the 2008 draft by the Raiders. 3-time 1st team All-SEC, 2-time 1st team All-American, 2-time SEC Offensive POY, 2-time Doak Walker Award winner, Walter Camp Award winner, Jim Brown Trophy winner, 2-time Heisman runner-up (was robbed both times in my opinion, especially in 2006), was 2nd in the SEC in career rushing yards behind only Herschel Walker when he left Arkansas (Nick Chubb has passed McFadden as of 2017, but Chubb played 4 years).
@@heatherphillips5983 no Collins absolutely did NOT break all of D-Mac's records. McFadden still holds the Arkansas record for top two single season rushing yards and all time rushing yards, and is #1 in the SEC for rushing yards in a game. Collins has the Arkansas record for most rushing touchdowns in a season. McFadden was 2nd all time in the SEC behind Herschel Walker in career rush yards. He's now 3rd behind Walker and Nick Chubb. Collins is 18th all time in the SEC. 4590 yards for McFadden, 3703 for Collins.
I heard someone call this man a bust. I don't call anybody a bust that play with an NFL team that had no blocking. You cannot call playets bust without calling the entire team and organization a bust.

I couldn't believe people were actually saying he was a better prospect than Adrian Peterson leading up to the draft. Everyone was enamored with his size/speed combination but when you actually watch their highlights you see McFadden running through huge holes and outrunning college defenses with the occasional nice stiff arm. On the other hand Peterson was running people over, juking linebackers and outrunning secondaries. He consistently gained yards after contact and was able to turn nothing plays into huge runs. Now with all that said, McFadden was definitely robbed of the Heisman at least once. Troy Smith had no business winning it in 2007.
Hindsight is 20/20. Oklahoma had a decent QB as well. Everyone knew McFadden was getting the ball and he still made nasty plays. Without a doubt the better college player. NFL… not so much.
He struck literal fear in opposing defenses. What a phenom. Should have won the Heisman. They got it wrong. Arkansas, as of 2022, still has not had a running back even close that can compare. Hell, I don't recall a running back in college football since that could do all that at warp speed with brute power like McFadden. One of the most thrilling, exciting, and electrifying college running backs of all time.
Greatest college football player in history. Yeah I said it! Even better than herschal walker. Damn, if only he could of stayed healthy. And I'm a Marcus Allen #1. is my favorite.
Mark May helped deny D-Mac the 2007 Heisman that went to Tebow. McFadden should have won it in 2006 AND 2007. The 2006 Heisman went to Troy Smith because of Ohio St bias...the Buckeyes went undefeated in the regular season, and OSU already had 5 previous Heisman winners with six trophies, while Arkansas was considered an upstart with 3 losses after the SEC Championship Game and zero Heisman winners.
No doubt, DMac definitely got robbed because of the bias that existed in favor of the 'best' quarterback playing for the nation's 'best' team, when it's said to be for the "most outstanding player in NCAA football". Darren McFadden certainly WAS the most outstanding player in CFB in both his sophomore and junior seasons, but especially the latter. It seemed like he got snubbed in 2006 because the Heisman had NEVER gone to a sophomore, but then they turnaround the next year and give it to Tebow, who becomes the first sophomore to win the trophy -- and that was just to add insult to injury of course after Arkansas got screwed out of the 2006 SEC Championship game against #1 Florida by none other than Marc Curles, our favorite repeat offender... The apology from the SEC, along with the suspension of Curles and the officiating crew, doesn't quite make up for that one either.
