Hello Mike I have enjoyed your videos, and find them very helpful. I have been to Cebu, and had planed on making the Philippines my home. One question I now have is I am now 65 and am wondering if I have waited to long. Also I see so many videos about the cost of retiring there, and I realize that is very subjective. IE: life style choices. One thing no one seems to talk about is their income. I understand that is a personal thing, but it would certainly help to know if my retirement income is inline with the expats that you may be familiar with. Thank you for any information you could provide.
Overstaying is no big deal morally. The attitude to overstayers varies from country to country. I overstayed by several months in the Philippines. They can black list you for a period of time and you will have to pay extra. Just explain in detail to the BI officer the what and the why, apologize sincerely and ask for leniency. A man over seventy is a senior. The Philippines authorities have a heart if you're humble and respectful with a reasonable excuse. Btw. You can get a passport by mail, no big deal.
I’m here for 2 years now, in Central Luzon area. I plan on making a “visa” run before my 36 month cap. I’m curious if leaving one or two days will satisfy Immigration for another 36 month stay?!? I’m current on all my visa obligations & have no other issues that would red “flag” me.
Question? I have watched a lot of videos about how great it is the Philippines and every video I see shows nice sunny weather. But I hear about the rainey the season and typhoons & earthquakes but never see those things mentioned so prob not a big deal? I live in Arizona where we have had record over 110 degree days for a long time and I have been here my whole life but is the humidity prob going to be a huge adjustment?
One of my mantras is take care of your business and keep your house in order. If you don’t , eventually someone else will intervene and it is unlikely you will like the result.

It's a sad story really if you think through. Yes his problems are solved but he ended up where he doesn't want to grow old. Even worse, he left people behind in the Philippines he cared about without the possibility to return to. And how in the world would you be able to bump up the income of little over $700 to lets say $1200 if he returns to the same lifestyle when you're approaching the age of 80+ ? oh man, he cannot even save up for a flight ticket now he is back in the USA. Just by breathing and waking up every morning would drain his $700 a month in the USA

Ted benefited for a caring lifeline and absolute money. He could have easily fall into the same predicament the UK gentleman that Derek at Q Adventures helped out last year especially if he lost access to his funds. If he is adamant about returning, he needs to make sure he is definitely not blacklisted by BI then pursue any extended Visa from the Philippine Embassy or Consulate in the US before purchasing a ticket. Other considerations may be pursuing a SRRV; conservatorship or power of attorney to handle his funds in the US to help build up an emergency fund to prevent him from getting into the same predicament in the future. Good luck Ted!

It makes a huge difference between whether you get caught in the wild or whether you surrender to Immigration. One time only i was one day late filing for an extension, due to El Presidente announcing an additional holiday closure for government offices at the last minute and I just never heard about it despite always checking the calendar for holidays in the days leading up to renewal time. I went to the Immigration offices and found them closed, much to my surprise! I went back the next day and explained and it was no hassle. They saw the funny side and I just paid a P500 late filing fee and filled in a form explaining why I was late and they processed my extension. And one key point: turn up and be humble, admit you screwed up and ask for their assistance to sort it out. Going in with the wrong attitude will cause you a lot of problems!

Mike, I have been thinking about visiting the Philippines for 3 weeks, I would be staying at the house of a neighbor on a small island near Leyte. ( the neighbor & family is a next door neighbor here in my hometown in Northern New York. Will I need a visa to visit the Philippines?
Almost hard to believe how some men can be so irresponsible and have to beg somebody to get you out of the legal problems your in, from your own doing. If he is stupid enough to come back and do the same crap again I would not help him the second time.
so true Bruce
The hospital doesn't care about overstay. They only care if you can pay the bill. Money is all that matters in the hospital. You can renew your passport. They don't ask anything about your Phillipines visa status. They don't do that. He just can't leave the Philippines.
could go to jail for a long time
Surprising amount of wisdom from an Ohio boy. Are you sure you're not from Michigan?
I will keep you guessing
Ted, is a very lucky man that he was able to get through all of his troubles, and be out of jail. A great story, that shows everyone that things can get out of hand ehen you don't take care of business, as a foreigner in a different country. We all need to take care of business.😅
well said Steve
Ted may want to call the lawyer and verify he not blacklisted.
Mike, you indicated that had a small 'pension.' I don't know how old he is, but shouldn't he get Social Security as well? Thanks.
that is his pension
@mikesphilippineretirement 700 Social security. Dang, that's low.
From what I’m hearing the guy screwed up and should deal with the consequences. Unfortunately for us other foreigners it’s people like that that screws things up for those who are following the rules! Thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Thank you Skip
Hello Mike I have enjoyed your videos, and find them very helpful. I have been to Cebu, and had planed on making the Philippines my home. One question I now have is I am now 65 and am wondering if I have waited to long. Also I see so many videos about the cost of retiring there, and I realize that is very subjective. IE: life style choices. One thing no one seems to talk about is their income. I understand that is a personal thing, but it would certainly help to know if my retirement income is inline with the expats that you may be familiar with. Thank you for any information you could provide.
income anything over 2k a month is ok 2500 is better the more you have the better it is
Overstaying is no big deal morally.
Btw. You can get a passport by mail, no big deal.
thanks for sharing
That’s on him

I’m here for 2 years now, in Central Luzon area. I plan on making a “visa” run before my 36 month cap. I’m curious if leaving one or two days will satisfy Immigration for another 36 month stay?!? I’m current on all my visa obligations & have no other issues that would red “flag” me.
Not sure but Heidi said be safe a stay a week. Be like a tourist
Looks like you can get a good deal for three months in Thailand at least at certain times of the year.
visa and taxes made Thailand very hard
Good video Mike. Hes really in a pickle.
he was
He is a TNT in the Philippines, Tago Ng Tago. Go to Guam to exit.
how do you leave without an Exit Clearances
You can't 😮
then how do you go to Guam?
You can go to cebu consulate they will send to Manila then goes to USA after that it will go to your Phil address in about 3 weeks
Thanks for watching and sharing your comment and info
Question? I have watched a lot of videos about how great it is the Philippines and every video I see shows nice sunny weather. But I hear about the rainey the season and typhoons & earthquakes but never see those things mentioned so prob not a big deal? I live in Arizona where we have had record over 110 degree days for a long time and I have been here my whole life but is the humidity prob going to be a huge adjustment?
if it is raining we stay inside
fallow the rules!!!!!.....no matter where you are
good advice
One of my mantras is take care of your business and keep your house in order. If you don’t , eventually someone else will intervene and it is unlikely you will like the result.

Hello Mike: I am curious, didn’t Bob received monthly social security apart from his pension?
no sure why?
Xpire US passport be do something must be renewed or consult US embassy ...pay the arrears can come back still dont pay the arrear he can not go out from phils.
Thanks for the info
I asked that social security how long i had the way for the guy wouldn't give me. But for my researches between 1 and 3 days. Why an agent of social security wouldn't know the answer to that i have no clue. However they also told me that i could get a six month extension at Manila only
what did you ask Social Security??????
@@mikesphilippineretirement i've been retired since i was 50 i just known that all along about the third quarter thing and how it works i just don't know 100% what the formula is. They don't count stuff like gasoline food other stuff in the cpi that jump 25 plus. The whole thing is stupid and 3% is ridiculous

It’s beyond the realm of my imagination 💭 that anyone in their right mind would ever put themselves in such a preventable situation with the clear understanding that you’re in a host foreign land with extremely simple requirements to be followed. People need to put their priorities in order. Shit, I’d go without eating if I had to in order to avoid such a situation. Sorry no excuses and I’ve got little to none empathy or sympathy with the exception the poor bastard is borderline elderly. Good riddance once you’re gone, stay gone as people like that are known to be repeat offenders.
Thanks Charles
What happened to his social security payments? $800 for pension. got it. But where's his SS?
@@SiLL-E-Meat That is his pension. The Social Security is his pension as Mike said previously.
@@charlesbronson5235 kudos!

Mike good story with a good end great for ted. Also good for learning as well.
thanks Judek.
So he didn't get to hang out
with Paul Cardwell or Barry Jordan . Nor does it sound like he had to pay all the extortion Paul blogged about after he got back to the US 😊😊
he got a lawyer and let the lawyer handle everything. paid the fee's and left the country. He understood what he did was wrong and got it fixed. How many stories have you heard like Paul's Story? Paul has been in many countries and was in Jail in 3 different countries. Philippines, Thailand and the US

How long stay on turist visa 6 month?
30 days up to 180 days depends on your visa but most are 2 months
You have a wonderful channel Mike. It’s full of content that is actually helpful and sometimes life saving for potential expats and expats. I appreciate you presenting all sides of life in the Phillipines. You’re a great communicator. Keep up the wonderful work 🙏🏼
I appreciate that!
no jail if your background is clean no jail you have to explain why you did not leave the country before the expiration of your visa you have to go true NBI to see your background if you owe any money to people or anything in philippines and also if you did not do any criminal deeds basically they will check everything on you if you owe money to any place
your a person who has been overstayed. Did you go to Jail?
WANG DANG SWEET POONTANG

jail for drugs. now way out
You are the third expat in the Phillipines that I have seen in videos that has a Christmas tree up.
and they come up in Sept. every year
If this guy is only getting 740 dollars for his pension
yes not much
something not right.. fishy
Like button disabled?
I do not think so
week or 2 week you have to stay in other country and come back , he has to go to manila embassy to ask for new passport is like 130 dollar it will take about a month or 6 weeks to get your new passport but you need to fill out some papers to show who he is .
thanks for the info
At this point just continue 2 lay low. Doesn't have thousand'$ 4 overstay. Even if he has current valid passport what good will it do. They will NAB him at the airport when he's leaving...
he wanted help to be legal
So he owe about 2700.00 USD. Could he talk to someone in the states. Get a loan. He could have taken a week vacation in Thailand. And came back.
his family helped him
I've heard that you must leave ph for 2
or 3 days before returning to avoid suspicion. Don't know if true but heard from another vlogger
sounds right I would stay a week
