I hope a lot of people can watch this video of yours. It's a good eye opener for those who are planning to settle anywhere in the world. This is a good precautionary measure for everyone's safety. Wherever you are there's always pros & cons...good or bad...so be careful...don't rush...take time to weigh your priorities...we only live once...and remember regret always comes last! Love yourself first! God bless ....thanks for sharing this video!❤🙏
I married a Filipino and brought her over here and it was very expensive and I also lived over there for about a month and I saw how the Filipinos try to take advantage of the Americans and overcharged so you got to think about that too
The most important decisions to be considered could be, 1. Compatibility (who we share our lives with,) 2. Budgeting, ( "the ability to live WITHIN your means.") 3. Financial Literacy - Cashflow, (having multiple streams of income at once.) 4. Healthy habits pay dividends. (Spiritual Emotion and Physical Health.) Synergy - "the combination of all of these together."
The heat is no joke out there. I lived in Vegas for 5 years and it wasn’t as bad as the constant, year round, humid heat of PH. Putting a fanny pack with a frozen bottle of water in it across your chest is a game changer.
Treating a woman to a week long trip for to Hawaii or Japan but refusing to buy her pricey jewelry (or treat her family to lunch) sends her the message that you are generous, but are not her personal ATM. If she leaves you then, it's because she wants an ATM.
Amen on NO politics. I'm in America and don't like politics at all. I'll keep my opinion and you keep yours. I don't want to change your mind and don't want an attempt to get mine changed. Nore do I want to hear someone complain about crap either.
Great advice video mike , hope people watch and take onboard your advice, ohh next month im upgraded for open heart surgery so early december going under the knife, but worried i must say but has to be done , got a lot more life in me to be done, cheers mike and janet ❤
Thanks Mike for the great advice 😊 I was making Cebu Pacific airlines tickets reservation for my travel in January has increased just from last year. Inflation in PH is on the rise. Boots on the ground is so important. Hi Janet 🙋
Best video you have put out so far. Well done Mike. Who knows. I may make a trip to the Philippines one day. I'm only 65 almost 66 lol. Take care man be safe, God bless. Peace
Mike, Thanks for telling it like it is to guys who may think the Phillippines is for them. When i first moved to Cebu in 2012 the exchange rate was 42-1. I am so tired of guys saying you can live like a king in the PI with 1000 bucks!
Eight weeks here in Lipa, Batangas and been to the SM a few times and we saw the JAG brand you wear. Shirts look great, have to get me one. Currently hunting for transportation, rental house, etc., and your so right take your time on everything you do, enjoy the ride! PS: My Best friend is married to a Filipina in San Antonio, Texas and a I hate to say it, a "BUCKEYE" fan! Good win last night for you all! 🙃
Good afternoon everybody i must say one thing first nice job again mike. I will say that you can never leave everything behind wherever you are from. I just got a notice from my insurance company bank for medicare back home and everything else like that and i've got them before from the bank condition that. So far i have lucked out and not needed to use mail except for a credit card. Took over 6 weeks to get here. I believe that even the nomads must have some kind of contact at least with their banking system. Unless maybe have some buried gold. Have a great day folks.
Something to really take a hard look at, some people need peace and quiet in retirement, hard to attain in the Philippines, investigate throughly where you are thinking of living. You could have added: don't stay beer soaked all day long, along with other bad habits in the heat and tropical sun you could be a candidate for a stroke, I have known several after getting stabilized had to return to the US. Moderate your beer consumption to just a few in the late afternoon or early evening if you enjoy the taste in the heat over there.
To get to know a person takes time, discernment and a good sense of judgement . Practical advice , know her through family & friends, too, once you are physically in the Philippines 🇵🇭. Hey Mike Adobo Joe here, can't wait to meet you when I get to Dumaguete. Retiring from the medical field, will be in Dumaguete late February. I've been working on this for about 2 years now, and I can't wait to relax and retire. See you soon. AdoboJoe

Great video Mike. Making yourself number 1 is great advice. But I know I will struggle with that since I have always made my self second in my 67 years. I know it is different in the Philippines, and it is a wise statement. But I bet I am not the only USA veteran who learned that the path to honor was to make everyone and everything else number one.
I gotta freezer and I pack it full of fish in anticipation of the typhoons because when the water gets rough the fish in the market get SMALL and I don’t like the meat to bone ratio on the small fish 😎
Hey Mike, there is one question I feel is extremely important after 3 marriages and to actively really understand who the person is we are feeling is our dream lady. I have personally come to believe until a man lives with a lady for minimum 6 months he will never see what can be many reasons his choice is not a long lasting relationship/ No one including the lady can simply use the word love as a faith in a happy relationship. People are people, what one finds is not pulling on the others way of life will rarely happen naturally. When both care and desire to support even adjust our normal personal methods each within a true thoughtful loving relationship can succeed
Not a problem, as I only get US Military Disability (so money is normally tight)! As a gift for a family I'm visiting... maybe a 10kg -25kg bag of rice as a gift!
there another thing to Mike some houses /conos dont have a bed,yes you heard correct i didnt believe at first ,but me and my women were going to rent a place and many of the houses in a gated community ,theres no nothing to cook with no cuttley, and in some places your renting just the roof and the 4 walls, and of course you pay for electric and or wifi.and these places are not that cheap either, this is in Cebu where it is prob out side of manila one of if not the next most expensive placew next to Manila.
Being unrealistic about your budget is the biggest issue. Have cash in the bank and have an income.Look after yourself and then maybe the family especially with regard to education. We had the family over to the house yesterday for my son's ninth birthday. The family came over from the province, sisters, kids etc. and the event lasted a few hours, from morning to evening, and everyone had a good time, especially the kids. We paid for it since we were the hosts. My wife's family knows we are wealthy but they don't expect handouts and they don't take the piss. Someone tried it on once but soon got kicked to touch. My niece, whom I have known since she was a small child, made the effort to come here from Manila where she is studying at university. She ended up nurse-maiding all the little ones. Rent? Wasted money. If you can, buy.
One of the best decisions I have made in adulthood was to remain single long enough to be comfortable and happy alone. So many men and women believe they must be in a relationship to be happy and choose the wrong person out of fear of loneliness. Learn to be single, work on yourself (physical and mental health), find what truly makes you happy, then choose a partner that adds to that...
@mikesphilippineretirement Gosh, what a thing to say to someone. I was talking about everyone for one thing. And I have my own financial resources, odd you would assume I do not. But would feel horrible for those that do not if they became destitute because politicians stole their retirement income.
Budget, try to keep it under what you have coming in. If you get 2,000 from ss and that’s your only income maybe set your budget at 1800-1900 and bank the rest for a rainy day or if you already have an emergency fund have a separate account and use it for vacations and other bigger cost things.
But But, what if you get more than ss, like ss plus work pension plus your 4% withdraw from your 401k plan. Now you have breathing room on your budget. More likely above $5k per month. Just a thought.
@ Same thing then, just change the numbers. 5k a month coming in, then maybe set your budget at $4500. For that amount of money you can live VERY NICELY in many countries.
@@Mikeyyyy_L Food for thought, Average ss in usa is 2,000 Average pension in usa is 1700 500k 401k amount at 4% withdraw is 2000. 2000 + 1700 + 2000 = 5700 Something to think about, being the average joe.
I've heard tgi friday has gone bankrupt. I hope they don't close the one in Ayala mall. Yes, I was surprised a bit at the prices at western franchise restaurants. Luckily I like to eat more local most of the time.
I win some, I lose some, at the end of the day learned from my mistakes and hopefully not do them all over again. I find it easier to say No for quite something though did struggle early on. Western food like Chili’s are pricey but once in awhile doesn’t hurt.
Rule number one: you can never make a woman happy for more than a few minutes. Comparison is the thief of joy. And women are constantly comparing every aspect of life and are immediately unhappy and complaining.
1st mistake is going there at all. That is a very very poor 3rd world country, the people there will never get ahead in life by simply working hard. These cute little Filipina girls and their families just see foreigners as a way to a better life. People are people and they are just doing what they need to do to get by in life. Janet, Baby Mae and the millions of other Filipina's are gladly sacrificing themselves to these guys for the overall good of their families.

And do you think 2,000 a month would be enough to retire in CEBU
Better to get your mind on 55 Pesos to USD. If the rate goes up to 58:1, just put the extra 3 Pesos for every dollar aside as savings, and if the rate falls below 55:1, use the savings to make up the difference.

Don’t settle goes along with your happiness. Take your time and “shop around” when looking for a girl, motorbike, place to live and coffee!
Especially the coffee. I hate paying us prices at BOs when I'm there but I love the place. Sometimes it is worth it for the scenery:-)
Absolutely agree!
MPR with another informative video. Thanks dude

I have a question for you i have about 6 more years of working before i retire i would like to retire i do have a lady friend that we have gotten close but i am not rushing in to marriage neither is she so my question is do you need to leave the country every 3 months?
And do you think 2,000 a month would be enough to retire in CEBU
it is every 3 years on a tourist Visa. My budget is 2,200 USD
So i can get a 3 year tourist visa
Keep up the good work kid
Better to get your mind on 55 Pesos to USD. If the rate goes up to 58:1, just put the extra 3 Pesos for every dollar aside as savings, and if the rate falls below 55:1, use the savings to make up the difference.
thanks Jerry just to much math for me
I liked your advice

Big mistakes are unlimited. Most mistakes are from lack of commonsense. Also foreigners unable to accept and understand the Filipino culture.
