    Found one of these beasts on a farm in Michigan for $200 with 256k miles and the same problems as yours plus other things. No rust at all,which is a miracle in itself,being in Michigan.We rebuilt the engine and it's going real strong. A great weekend project.

    So this video may have just saved a ton of money. Mine decided to dump coolant all over my exhaust making me think blown head gasket but there is no coolant at all in my oil. Now I have something to check before I pull the beast of an engine out of her. ( 97 f150 5.4 lariat step side. ). Thanks for the video.

    HELLO, I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT FREEZE PLUGS. THE VEHICLE IS A 2003 FORD RANGER. DURING THE WINTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND THE COOLANT WAS MISSING FROM THE RADIATOR BEFORE DRIVING JUST UP THE STREET ABOUT TWO BLOCKS AWAY TO REFILL THE COOLANT. I WATCHED THE COOLANT GAUGE AND IT NEVER MOVED FROM COLD. WHAT PROBLEMS COULD OCCUR IF ANY BY DOING THIS ??????

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  5 лет назад +1

      Howdy! If the truck had water in it before it was parked and then didn't after the winter, it is possible it froze and pushed out a freeze plug. If there is no liquid in the system the temp gauge has nothing to read and it won't move even though the engine gets hot. The obvious way to tell you have a freeze plug out or a cracked block is when you try to add coolant, it just runs out of the engine. If it's just the freeze plug and it didn't overheat significantly, you should be able to reinstall one and it should be good. Good luck!

      @@aaronsrose I HAD THE PICKUP TRUCK BROUGHT INTO A MECHANIC SHOP. THE FREEZE PLUGS WERE REPLACED, THE ENGINE STILLS RUNS WHILE AT THE SHOP, AND THE BLOCK WAS NOT CRACKED AND NOW ACCORDING TO WHAT THE MECHANIC CLAIMS BEFORE PICKING UP THE TRUCK FOR FREEZE PLUG REPAIRS COMPLETED. ( I NEVER USED THIS MECHANIC BEFORE HITS ME WITH THIS), SAYS THE COOLANT IS MIXING WITH OIL. HE ALSO STATED THAT I WOULD NEED A ENGINE REPLACEMENT. I HAVE QUESTIONED THIS WITH OTHER PEOPLE, BUT I NEED A STRAIGHT ANSWER. TWO SOLUTIONS HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED. THEY SAY THE OIL PAN NEEDS TO BE DRAINED AND HAVE THE HEAD GASKET OR VALVE COVER GASKET REPLACED. THEN POUR NEW OIL IN AND COOLANT BACK TO THE PROPER LEVELS. CAN I GO BY WHAT THE MECHANIC IS SAYING ??? I FEEL STUCK NOW. I JUST WANT TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A NEW MECHANIC SHOP. HOW DO I HANDLE THE NEW MECHANIC GETTING INVOLVED WITH EVERYTHING THAT'S HAPPENED NOW TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM, WHICH IS SUPPOSE BE A FREEZE PLUG PROBLEM TO BEGIN WITH.

  • @nzs316

    Aaron if i understand correctly, it was the press fitted "J"or "L" pipe that failed. I can hear air coming out from that area when i squeeze the big upper hose out of the radiator.
    I tried the bypass from the thermostat to the heater, still leaks like crazy. Tried to bypass the core heater, still leaks like crazy.
    So, im proceeding by process of elimination. I just tried Bars leak and still leaks like crazy. So, it must be that darn J pipe.

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  2 года назад

      Yes. Mine corroded from the inside out. I didn't feel like making a special press to to install the new pipe so I replaced it with threaded plumbing fittings. 332k miles today and still working well.

      @@aaronsrose Thank you for replying. I can't really complain, this 1999 f150 has served me well since i bought it in 2004.
      Although this darn leak is a beast to isolate and repair especially that it had to happen in December here in Canada.
      Your insight has been most appreciated, best regards for the holidays!

    • @nzs316
      @nzs316 10 месяцев назад

      @@brandoncook5424 The problem is that it is a 1999 and then that year they made a very specific model. The only replacement is finding a used one in the scrap yard or order a knock off.
      If I could find a used one I can make an attempt to make any repairs to it if I have to. I just don’t dare take it apart and then find out that I’m screwed and have to go and get one of these cheap plastic ones aftermarket.
      So I just keep chopping it up with water. I carry 6 to 8 gallons in my truck just in case and every time I stop I just had a gallon. If I have to. In the winter I just plugged in on the block heater.

    U don't have 2 take the intake off 2 fix it...and you'll still have heat...6 ft of heater hose was all you needed and 2 clamps.

    • @aaronsrose
      @aaronsrose  3 года назад +3

      If you're able to get your hands in that far beyond the #4 coil and injector rail and then ram a hose over a barbed fitting with a 90 degree bend in it about 6" to cover a rusted out section of pipe and then clamp it so it seals without crushing the rusted pipe, more power to you. It was easier for me to pull the intake and have room to work.
