I used the 165, 180 in a 30-06 and the 200 gr in a 308 Norma Mag for quite a while, they always did the job well on deer, black bear, mountain goat and moose. The 140 gr G.S. is a favorite in 260 Rem and 6.5x55 for deer and black bear. One of the best bargains out there these days for reasonably priced bullets that perform well.

Thanks for another great video. This shows when and where to use a specific bullet. The bullet was made for a certain purpose. It works well for that purpose. Love the data with the associated pictures of the bullets. Very useful.

I used a Speer 180 gr GS on a small Idaho white tail. The rifle was an ancient Remington 740 30-06 and estimated impact velocity was 2330. One shot dropped it. I thought it was a complete pass through until I happened on the Jacket by the exit hole ribs. The 145 yard shot was quartering toward the deer. Jacket was pretty gnarled but had expanded. Core was gone (yes, gone) but it had done the damage needed. I think its a good bullet but not beyond that.

You guys so great work! I would personally love to see you test the old school 180 grain Hornady Interlock flat base bullet coming out of a 30-06 at around 2750ish fps.

As a new 280AI owner, thanks for this video. 7mm bullets are hard to find. The ELD's are the most common and what I am shooting.

I'd really like to see a 7 mm series of Federal Fusion or Speer Deep Curl if they ever become available again. Good Job.

Excellent information. Great choice. I am a big 7mm proponent and have been since mid 80s. My first large rifle was a 7mm Rem Mag. I have had 2 others since. I have never shot the Grand Slam. The low BC has typically caused me to shy away. Your perspective and explanation of such a bullet in it's place make good sense. I now agree with you and may give it more consideration. I would assume it is as accurate as it's competitors. Thanks again. Well done.

I have some 175gr 7mm Grand Slams. Their BC is much higher than the 145 gr (BC 465). The sectional density is 310 so this is a great round for a big 7mm cartridge. At 400 yards it is going 2100 per sec -- the same speed as the 145 they reviewed here with a much lower BC. Think it would be good for any big game in the 48 states. Read some reviews on Midway USA and one hunter shot an elk in the shoulder and recovered the bullet over 4' on the offset ham. Lost about 25% of its weight. FWIW.

Thank you for this. I'm looking to load rounds for deer and elk, and will be using a 30-'06 for both.
I see great utility in the Grand Slams, Hot Cores, and the Gold Dots.
A same-caliber and weight comparison would be very interesting, but would take time and money, to be certain.

145 gr out of a 280AI you still got more room for velocity to help with that 500 yd expansion. Try using N555 or H4350 if your not already. Great video guys and god bless!!!!

I used to shoot a 270 AI (back in the day) tried Partitions, too big an exit hole and major meat carnager. Went to the Grand Slam, never looked back I now have a 270 WSM and my 300 Win Mag. 140s in the WSM and 180s in the 300WM. DRT results.

Great video! You don't find many tests of these bullets. I was interested to see how the "new" Grand Slams perform. I have used the "old" style Grand Slam on two moose a few years ago. I had loaded some 160 grain ones in my 7mm-08. The old Grand Slams had a softer front lead core and a harder lead core portion of the bullet mechanically locked in the jacket. The first moose was close with not the best shot placement. I recovered the two parts of the core with the rear portion of the core still in the jacket and the front portion really close to it. It broke a rib on entry and broke a rib at the off side. The second moose was just over 200 yards quartering to me. It fell at the shot and never took a step. You can't ask for more. Two shots for two moose. BTW,, my load had a muzzle velocity of 2585 fps. Maybe they opened faster than the new Grand Slams with the softer front core.

      I always like their vids.
100-500 is where it’s at. Not point blank. Into gel. Those are cool too but this is more my format.

I haven't decided which 280AI to get. The Browning xbolt Speed 280AI 1@ 8 twist. Or Savage Ultralite 280AI 1@9 twist. Bullets i am going to try. Hornady 150 gr 162 gr 175 gr eld x. 154 gr 162 gr sst bullets. Berger 140 gr 150 gr 168 gr 175 gr. Nosler 140 gr 150 gr 160 gr and 175 gr AB. The 175 gr will only if i decide on th xbolt 1@8. I shoot the Speer 130 gr hot core in my 280 rem some.

First off, Thank you for another well put together test and presentation! Question, is that a Factory Remington 783 with a .280 AI barrel? (I'm contemplating a 7PRC or .280AI for the next bolt gun build) A couple thoughts, I never went the way of the Grand Slams because they're just such a tough bullet, which like you stated can be good for certain critters at close ranges. There price isn't too bad when comparing them to AccuBonds, but then again you don't get the BCs. Finally, would y'all have any interest in testing the Speer IMPACT .308 172gr. If I sent a box your way?

As usual I enjoy the video and very informative. I do have one question regarding seating depth I recently acquired a 280 Rem. and trying to load 145 hot core and grand slam. For the hot core COAL is listed as 3.160 that puts me .212 off the lands. I've checked all my manuals and that seams to be correct COAL for that bullet. Why so short? is that even safe? The grand slam in the same weight measures 3.275 still short but not as bad as the hot core.
    All the best

Do you have acess to a .44 magnum leveraction or semi?
The Speer Deep curl with the soft tip works really well, you would probably need to do a test like the 7.62x39 testing ranges. 50 100 150 etc
