    Without their teflon impregnated fabric, Gore-Tex now has to compete against a crowd of alternative coatings and I'm not sure they are going to be able to maintain their premium once cross testing is done. Everything I've seen in mountain testing has shown the competitors and Gore are all basically the same in terms of their hydrophobic coatings.

    Good to see a review of the Gore Spin shift rain jacket. as I've been wondering how it compared.. I absolutely loved the performance my Gore shake-dry 1984 with hi-viz , although on gloomy rain sodden days, I always felt uneasy riding in traffic wearing a black jacket with a single rearward facing yellow patch. So will definitely be putting in an order for a Gore Spin-shift in YELLOW..

    Was this filmed on the X4? The shots of you in the rain talking to camera look brilliant. Have you colour graded any of it in the edit? And could I ask about the mic you're using? It's a fantastic review video Dave nice one.

    I have the Gore Torrent rain jacket and its very impressive, absolutely waterproof and breathable. And the price in Germany was about 100€. Absolutely no brainer

    Has a short rear, not good. It’s something gore improved from the original shakedry in later versions.
    As you show with your 2016 jacket, it’s is still going with no issues. was the original delicate? I haven’t had any issues with mine.
    Also that doesn’t pack up half as small as the shakedry. Ok the newer versions of the shakedry did get bigger when packed compared to the original. But that was to be expected with the longer rear and the mix of materials they brought in for stretch areas.

    I enjoy your videos and when I see something I like I try to explore further. Your Castelli Espresso Jersey (Sage) outfit, for example. Have seen you sporting that in a few videos. Saddleback doesn't ship to Canada though....I feel like your sponsors should offer service to your global audience otherwise both sides miss out.

    I have a Castelli Idro 3 & it is absolutely brilliant for keeping you dry but breathable it is not. I keep hearing how great the breathability is on the Shakedry jackets but my experience is the polar opposite.

    goretex does not work anyways in most occasions, the breathable part of the jacket only works if there is a difference, in this case humidity. Meaning if you are sweaty therefore have a high humidity environment between your body and the jacket and its very humid or raining outside, the goretex membrane wont breath. Goretex is just a marketing gimmick

    Does it need reproofing like every other jacket? I know the Shakedry didn't as it was just two layers.Also like to know the durability as i wear Camelbacks and bumbags on most my bikes.Something you couldn't do with original Shakedry!

      I'm really curious about this too. I haven't been able to find any information on Gore's site or elsewhere.
      Also, am I correct that this new Spinshift jacket doesn't have a two-way zipper? If so, that is a big miss for a cycling jacket, both for ventilation and for access to rear pockets. Admittedly, the two-way zipper on my (Gorewear) Shakedry is of terrible quality, unbefitting of the jacket itself, but it's still very useful.

    One thing you're going to notice with the PFC free laminates and DWR coatings is that they get contaminated more easily and will need to be washed way more often. That's the big reason they can't put the ePE membrane on the outside like they could with the ePTFE membrane used for Shakedry.

    • @davidarthur
      @davidarthur  Месяц назад +1

      Interesting, will be curious to see how this does long term, and how many other brands utilise it

      @@davidarthur Gore and other brands have been working on this for years, partially to get out ahead of any legislation that would prevent the use of fluorinated chemicals because of the whole never breaking down and ending up in everything characteristic 😮‍💨. Great for performance outerwear; not so great for nature, unfortunately.

      First bought a Shakedry about 5 years ago and can honestly say it was one of the best purchases I ever made. It is so light and packs down so small you don’t even know it’s in your jersey pocket. When I heard last year that they were to be discontinued I went online and purchased another one in the sale’s, to keep as a spare for a rainy day! 😂

    • @mf0u3021
      @mf0u3021 Месяц назад

      It packs down almost the same. It’s 10g heavier than the 1985 shakedry in a size small. The pocket is bigger on this though so it ‘looks’ about 50% bigger when stuffed inside, but there is a lot more air in it and it can be squashed flatter. The 1985 shakedry is basically a brick when stuffed.

  • @mf0u3021
    @mf0u3021 Месяц назад

    The medium fits like a small? Really?! I have a small and it fits like a large! Gore have really messed up their sizing in recent years. The size charts are WAY off.

    Hi David; David here 🙂 While I couldn't care less about the "climate friendly" BS I am very interested in this jacket for my wife and I. Especially as we live in Germany and it's not so bright and sunny most of the time. I'm actually quite ready to pull the trigger on this not so cheap option, but if you have any further commentary on this product, I'd love to read any further thoughts since this video in a reply. Would you invest in this product yourself? Would you take this jacket to Flanders or LBL? Would you consider this a good option for late fall weather in central Europe? During your trials, did you wear warmer base layers or was the outer Gore jacket sufficient to keep you warm?
    Thanks again and as always; I really love your content!
