  • I love it when viewers send me suggestions for episodes. I mean, it's hard coming up with ideas sometimes, there's so many options!
    I always say 'fresh is best' so in this episode I'm making a Pistachio Orgeat Syrup! Typically Orgeat Syrup is made from almonds but I wanted to try something different. Let me tell ya it tastes amazing!
    So if you have the time and patience try this recipe. DIY is always better than store bought- that's for sure! Try it!
    Cheers!

    Bruce, I love your channel and wish I had discovered it sooner! Made your raspberry syrup and it was phenomenal. Do you have any tips for a good ginger syrup? I've tried several recipes, but they taste too sweet to me. Thanks!

      @BarTalkCocktails  6 лет назад +1

      I love ginger! I drink ginger juice every day so, I guess it makes sense that I make a great tasting ginger syrup too. It might not be until the new year as we plan our shows in advance but, look for it in the future. Guaranteed, I'll make you an exceptional ginger syrup. In the meantime maybe try cutting back on the sugar amounts if you’re experimenting. Cheers!

    Omg this looks delicious. I could eat it out of the pan! I bet this can be done with pecans if one doesn’t have pistachios.

      @BarTalkCocktails  6 лет назад

      I've never made orgeat with pecans. With their rich, buttery flavour, pecan orgeat sounds pretty good. I could go for some pecan pie right about now. Let me know how it works out.

    Bruce if you were doing this with almonds would you use blanched almonds with the skins removed?

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  3 года назад

      Blanched almonds are the preferred method with the skins removed. However, you don't have to remove the skins from almonds, it just looks nicer. Cheers!

    Not to sound boring but what If I just want this without any alcohol what can I use to perserve??

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  4 года назад

      The easiest way to preserve a syrup without alcohol is to up the ratio of sugar to water. A 1:1 ratio of sugar to water will only stay good for about a month. But rich simple syrup, made from a 2:1 ratio of sugar to water, will last a good four months before becoming cloudy. Another way would be to vacuum seal it. Bacteria can't multiply without air.

    Quick question: raw or roasted pistachios?

    • @BarTalkCocktails
      @BarTalkCocktails  Год назад

      Whether you choose raw or roasted pistachios, both are suitable for making pistachio orgeat syrup. Raw pistachios can give the syrup a more delicate and natural pistachio taste. On the other hand, if you’re after a bolder and richer flavour, roasted pistachios are the way to go.
      Cheers!

      Organics are, for the most part, free of pesticides, artificial chemicals, hormones, antibiotics or genetically modified organisms. In a nutshell, organic food may reduce your exposure to toxins. This is why I’m big on organics. Cheers!

  • @PiccJamess

    Hey Bruce - love the channel! I just wanted to give you a kind suggestion regarding your method in making any orgeat. You do not need to press through the cloth/nut milk bag the sugar! I noticed you were pressing really hard and even sped up the video because it was taking you so long to press the liquid through. The straining process is only necessary for the nut milk to remove the nut pulp. The much easier method is to add slightly toasted pistachios/macadamia/almond nuts (in butter) to a blender and pour in already hot water (but not boiling). Then blend for 2 minutes before filtering out as much liquid as you can. Then pour that mixture into a sauce pan and add the same equal parts of whatever sugar you want to use. Much easier to add the sugar last! Cheese cloth and nut milk bags are not ideal for pressing simple syrup and the like! Hope that helps. Make a redo video for your subscribers!

      The California pistachios I bought were already roasted. You could home roast them again. The end result may yield a bigger pistachio taste and a slightly darker coloured syrup. Cheers!

      +Faysal Shukri Hello! You can definitely make Orgeat syrup without adding any alcohol to preserve it. It's just as yummy without alcohol. It just won't last as long - perhaps a week or two in the refrigerator. I love to add the syrups to ice cream and sometimes my tea.
