When I grocery shop in the morning my heart breaks seeing all these hardworking men with wedding rings grabbing a couple donuts and an energy drink for breakfast. Maybe th wife is able to keep herself in shape and take such good care of herself BECAUSE of the husband being a great provider and enabling the wife to have time and resources to eat well and workout. It’s a lot easier to keep in shape if you don’t have to work full time and take care of everything on top of that. If he is working even 40 hours a week and comes home tired it can make it harder to stay in shape and healthy. Just some food for thought.

    I agree with the wife because if the role was reversed Dr. Laura would be telling the wife to lose weight. Men are typically vocal about not wanting a fat wife but we are suppose to be ok with a fat husband, even when their belly hangs over their genitals. • @angelagleason8095

    I've read that the number one cause of break-ups in marriages and relationships in general (and this could even apply to employer-employee agreements) is conflicting and unspoken expectations of what the relationship was supposed to be about. Dr. Laura talks about how you should date somebody for two years before you marry them. I will take it a step further; I think before you marry somebody you should have a frank discussion about commitment to physical fitness. If remaining in the best physical shape you can be at any age and leading a healthy lifestyle is a priority for you, but it is not for the individual you are dating, then you should NOT get married. This woman does not say HOW fat her husband has become, but if she has a healthy BMI, while he's morphed into morbid obesity, I am sorry, Dr. Laura, but I don't think that "love" will save the day. And seriously, how much does he love HER if he lets himself turn into Jaba the Hut, all the while knowing that she's making an effort to look good for him?

    • @darrenjorgensen1917
      @darrenjorgensen1917 8 дней назад +2

      Most of your comment is spot on but the last part was not clearly thought through. Yes, we should be our best selves for our spouses but life isn't always kind. Health issues come up and other events that change circumstances. That's why the wedding vows include the topics that they do. If my wife were to put on significant weight and have serious mental issues after giving birth does that give me license to walk away from the marital vows? If I am part of a layoff and have difficulty finding work does that mean my wife can walk away from the marriage? Marriage is much more than just a casual friendship or relationship. Our spouses happiness and well-being should be our highest priority, regardless of life's challenges.

    • @Viracocha88
      @Viracocha88 7 дней назад +1

      @@darrenjorgensen1917 I had a friend who was morbidly obese. which she blamed on her "genes," but the reality is that like the woman's husband in the above clip with Dr. Laura, my friend was seriously addicted to eating. My friend eventually died from uterine cancer, which is an almost inevitable consequence of extreme obesity in women. And having once been overweight myself, before I lost it all throught diet and exercise, I know enough about obesity to assert that the only thing that creates fat cells is an excess consumption of calories, ESPECIALLY carbohydrates. There is not a single disease or health issue in the world that creates this secondary health issue known as obesity. It's purely the result of overeating, and overeating is an addiction, just like an addiction to alcohol, pills, illegal drugs, gambling, and pornography - all of which involve making choices. That's completely different from post-partum depression or being laid-off, which are things that HAPPEN to you, not things like overeating, which you CHOOSE. Personally, I think this woman SHOULD remain in the marriage to offer her husband emotional support, but I don't think she's obliged to have sex with him. It's one thing to be about 20 pounds overweight, but if he's morphed into a massive, Jaba the Hut-like tub of guy because he keeps shoveling junk food into his mouth, no, I don't think she's obliged to have sex with him, and in fact, she'd be doing him a favor if she said that and she told him why, because it might motive him to get off his fat rear-end and change. That's why the analogy Dr. Laura used of "you probably have wrinkles and gray hair" is a false one. Aging does not involve personal choice - and in fact, I know plenty of seniors who look good because they stay in shape - but getting and remaining fat IS.

    This is an example why marriage is a bad move for both sides. You must accept/settle for the one you choose knowing full well it will never get better. It is better the live separately and see each other when you can arrange it.
