  • Alex Payne and Mike Tindall are joined on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast by England's most capped player Jason Leonard, to talk golf carts, old farts, World Cup wins, baths and blowing up granny. He also discusses what it really means to be a British and Irish Lion and why he's the goat. In more ways than one.

Mr Leonard is a legend. I recall the West Sussex schools rugby awards. We had tried various people and were being asked for limos, overnight hotels etc. Mr Leonard said make a donation to wooden spoon.
On the day he arrived gave the prizes and chatted with the children about their rugby. Not once did the world cup winner speak about himself.
    He even declined a beer......
An awesome day the club still talks about.

Absolute legend. Remember being a young kid at the stoop running on the pitch when that was allowed back in the day many a time and he would always stop for a picture and a chat. Bloody good bloke.

Jason Leonard attended one of our rugby matches in the Military. It was a game with a mix of lads from the Navy and The Royal Marines. He then joined us in the bar and gave a speech and said exactly what he said about his thoughts about sport and rugby. About being mates and having fun. I couldn’t agree more. He is not only a legend but a true gentleman. But with all his accolades from a World Cup winner to a true ultimate Lion he is still out done at every single Sunday lunch at home because his brother was a Royal Marine.
Guys the show is absolutely awesome and really enjoy the podcast.
    Respect to all.

I don’t think people will ever understand how great it is to have an Essex born son (a county that is far too invested in football) be England’s great rugby player, front row representative and ground roots ambassador.
The sport, like cricket, has been dominated by privileges southerners and northerners who are too good to ignore.
Essex has been ignored before Jason’s time and is only just being tapped into for the sporting talent it has.

My favourite Leonard story - and i hope it's not urban myth - is of an England team meeting where Jack Rowell was going through the video replay and there was a passage where Leonard had took the ball to ground where there was a man outside begging for it. Rowell said to Leonard: "Jason, that pass should have gone". Leonard's retort: "Jack, if it coulda gone, it woulda went!"

One of the greatest 'modern day' World Class props to have played the game. Could have walked into any International side and been an invaluable asset. Extremely, brutally powerful, yet mobile, linked brilliantly and had 'soft hands' in the passing role. Never took a backward step in adversity. Loved watching Jase play. Tindall was a tough bugger too.

i really enjoy this pod!! any chance you guys could get some women guests on? & next week discuss what’s been going on with Canterbury & the Irish RFU (using models instead of players to promote kit, whereas the men’s kit was worn by male players) and the #IAmEnough hashtag? its only happened today but would love to hear your input & to see this brought up on a platform as big as the one you guys have to encourage a discussion around sexism in rugby. thanks! :)

A real cringe when Tindall seeks to assert his local rugby club credentials, just one of the guys toughing it out....Minchinhgampton Club is positioned in one of the poshest villages in the Cotswolds, which is saying something. It is sandwiched in between Minchinhamton Common, 450 acres of elevated public grassland and right next door to Gatcombe Park Princess Annes country residence, an 18th century Manor 9 bedded pad with staff accomodation etc, snuggled in her own 730 acres of Parkland, which he lives next door to of course.
That's a more honest appraisal of where he and the Club are at...

Point 1. There is a picture of the person and their name under every podcast title page, so you dont have to “keep watching” to know which ones to watch.
