At around 7yrs old, and as a direct result of watching him, i jumped off a homemade ramp of bricks and a plank of wood, on my Raleigh Grifter
I was seen as practically a two-wheeled 'legend' around our way for doing that !!!!
Ha ha ha ha ha - Cheers, Evel 🤩

I am a Knievel fan, since the early 70's. I used to get a ramp, jump with my bike. It was fun. I was, still am a huge fan. Robbie, Eddie Kidd. I am so sorry about what happened to Eddie. He was as good as Robbie. I was so sorry, when I knew Robbie passed.

The thing about Evel Knievel was if he knew he wasn't gonna make the jump he still did the jump. They asked him why and his answer was 100%Evel Knievel. He looked at them and asked what did you want me to do give them their money back

THE DIFFERENCE in Eddie Kidd and even Evel's son Robbie. THEY JUMPED bikes that were built to jump!!! Try ANY of those on a Harley Davidson, good luck.

It's absolute Insanity to think that back then you could do a backflip riders have accomplished a triple backflip in a double is now standard in the Motocross world

If you know anything about motorbikes you wouldn’t choose a Harley to do a jump let alone stunt jumps he truly was nuts but a world I miss

i am 70 and of course in my day Knievel was it...but with all due respect watching present Red Bull events what the modern day stuntmen do on bikes / planes / out of space / sky diving without parachute landing in a net / then watching a man take 7 or more practice runs to up the duration of the show to near an hour it seems now utterly vintage work sorry. In no way do i want to smear the memory of Knievel and his son but what i have seen now in the past years put these jumps over buses in a sour corner...

The Bikes he did those stunts on, are totally unsuitable for the task - Harleys, and Triumphs WTF ! . . . . . . . . . look at today's bikes for doing that kinda thing - they are purpose made & very capable
The bikes then, were practically just street bikes with a set of tall handlebars
50/50 Amazing bravery, Amazing stupidity !!!

    • @mazdarx7887

What other bikes at that time in the US could he have used?

    • @golic7123
      @golic7123 Год назад

      There was LOADS of choice.
Japan was making lots of powerful 2-stroke motocrossers !
      Spanish Maico off-roaders were amazing
      Swedish Husqvarna were winning titles.
All were half the weight, more power and far more capable
. . . . but i understand that patriotism was paramount - so he tried to use the home brand
In one of the jumps he's using a damn Triumph (parallel twin) which is a terrible choice for a stunt bike.
      Brave Guy

    • @mazdarx7887

@@golic7123 Yup, that would go go over great in the US. He got to be big because of the stars and stripes and the Harley. There were lots of other daredevils around that were better, but most were riding other bikes. Better bikes to use absolutely, but it's just not the same, which is proven by his success, (I don't mean jumping)

      @@mazdarx7887 - I agree.
Nothing wring with patriotism and being proud . . . . and he certainly promoted that 'Stars & Stripes' look, to the Max 🤩🤩🤩
