“That nickel and diming shit is for the birds.” The indie companies are carrying this industry.
They really aren’t 💀💀 what indie game is “carrying” the industry.
Every major current genre is a result of indie Innovation? Battle Royales, Extraction shooter, MOBAs etc. All ripped by corporations led by business majors too occupied mitigating risks instead of trying out new stuff. Indie games are carrying, hard!
@groekanne7765 well before indies all those innovations were from the mod scene technically, but indie devs are carrying that torch now that the big games are un-moddable live service platforms.
@@BeegBeegYoshi. When was the last time a big studio did something new or innovative?
@@bgl11 And we had more AA games that experimented more with new genres, gameplay ideas, etc.
One of the huge things I think isn't really talked about is how the peer to peer connection allows the game to be played long after the official servers shut down. The devs are making this game forever accessible and playable to anyone with a copy, and that's amazing.
agree
He does mention it in the video
But doesn't that become a problem when your host has crap internet? You load in with nice gear only for your lobby to lag out and lose all you gear.
@@saverx1775 It's a choice to either have peer to peer or use the games servers.
And if that happens, well that sucks, now go do another raid. It's just as if you died in that raid.
forever
It’s like the movie “9” but instead of us playing as sock puppets we’re people. Really cool lol
i always wanted a "9" game.
I was about to say this
Dude for real! Funny enough I just watched that movie again a couple nights ago. Such a cool movie.
@@nima.d7147 Isn't there like a ps2 game of 9? And I think the closest 9 game is Little nightmare, Wouldn't you agree?
Damn remember that gem of a movie. Why can't we get things like this movies and games 😭
The devs being no-nonsense and talking down about the current corposlop situation we're in is what made me instantly follow and wishlist their game. All they need to do now is follow-through.
Not enough. Anyone can talk smack not everyone can go through with it
@@MosinMan12 it's a first step if dev and a studio is aware of the current state of the gaming industry
@@mrhonkhonk6116 Yup. The first step toward correction is being aware that there is a problem. The fact so many other studios (and content creators) are pretending like there is no problem *IS* a chief part of the problem.
For $27 bucks they can. Be different if they were charging $100 bucks for a base Star Wars game coming out of a Billion Dollar company
no nonsense like making development promises in character lmfao.
Honestly what interests me about this game is not the gameplay, but the world and the art and environment and philosophy behind it. Saw a while ago a great video by a guy named Riloe, who talked a lot with the devs and was going into the background of the concept for this. Whether they can execute on this idea is really just a matter of “when” and not “if”… the passion and vision are definitely there, and the brutal grim-dark inhumanity of it all is really something beyond.
I kind of have this prediction that people will be buying this and playing it as a guns blazing looter shooter extraction game, then act like it's not good because they won't get far saying it's broken and unbalanced, DESPITE the fact the studio explicitly addresses staying out of sight off the radar and conserving your ammo for use only as needed will be your friend, the description states you are NOT that guy and I almost feel like too many will play as if they thought they were that guy anyway, this is grimdark war-torn survival fantasy which is a strongly niche underappreciated dark fantasy genre that these devs have beautifully captured in concept and design, and if they manage to make you feel immersed, hopeless, even powerless like a rat in the trenches just trying to survive the conflict around you then they'll have succeeded in execution. this is a genre that deserves a love letter like this and the art style story world building if taken in accordingly by consumers could spawn a huge renaissance for the genre branching into multiple mediums, table top will expand more, comics or novels, films/shows would gather interest, GrimDark deserves recognition outside the handful of themes it was inspiring fo in warhammer, and that franchise shouldn't overshadow anything else being some end all be all, new avenues need seen and heard, Forever Winter is one of them and Trench Crusade is another that deserves far more recognition.
@@cyanyde4950 I think some of them will run into that. That's kind of inevitable. Helldivers is caught between the 'grim dark fodder' that at least some of the devs intended... and the raucous black comedy horde shooter that they delivered at launch. Sadly for Arrowhead, there simply is a MUCH larger market for that popcorn flick action than for the high difficulty survival experience. If they wanted to succeed, they would have pivoted to what that larger market they accidentally captured wanted, then used the resources/momentum to make another attempt at their 'grim dark fodder' experience later.
Forever Winter's devs seem to understand that they're making a niche product and care more about the art than the possible money to be made. Being they're not tied to a publisher as Arrowhead is, they can remain focused on that and in all honesty I hope that they do. There's room in my gaming diet for both, and I would not ask any one game to be both.
The balance of 'helpless' vs 'weak' isn't easy to convey, but I am praying that Forever Winter comes out on that 'weak' side. Because winning fights feeling like a pack of rats taking down a Rottweiler or even a Tiger is an experience I do like. It's what drew me to Monster Hunter as an idea.
And honestly? My ideal experience in Forever Winter as I see it is carefully moving through a battlefield, grabbing juicy bits and ducking back into the rubble. Maybe picking off one random soldier, looting them and scurrying away rather than fighting. With the rare and memorable 'cornered rat' moment where I can indeed wipe out a squad and flee the reinforcements to live another day. Because that's the experience that appeals to me.
Riloe's videos are all pretty great
It would be just delightful if they could hire the same legendary devs/writers that graced us with classics like BulletStorm and Vanquish. The writing and dialogue in those games are literary masterpieces, after all.
@cyanyde4950 the game's atmosphere, the mechanism of the game have the responsibility to switch your "survival mode" inside you, if it can't do that then the game is no good. There are always some dumb dudes buy wrong game for him, but that's a real minority. The game has to steer out of the way of HD2, being marketed as a power horde shooter, and break its own neck to be a try-hard shooter. Also with the devs this transparent and seems to have solutions after witness the fall of HD2, i think this game will be all right if the devs don't stray out of their path. Escape of Tarkov was loved from the moment it released, and the only thing that prevent others to play it was the price and regional restriction. If this game do better, the sales revenue is the least thing they need to worry about.
These devs can talk the talk, but can they walk the walk is the question.
ON GODD
how did you get my old avatar picture?
Corny af
I sure do hope so!
Well the concept and design is all pretty amazing, but the gameplay during the beta was lacking. They have some work to do
TWENTY THREE DAYS AWAY. I've been following this since the release of their first info. I cannot wait to experience the early access and provide my feedback and see my vote actually matter to the development team. I'm very glad you will be following this now too!
It's early access, so my biggest issue is probably going to be optimization. Some of their video footage looks like it's running at 10 FPS, which always drives me nuts.
@@DemothHymside that's exactly why they do early access lol
Dude same here I saw this game I want to say last year and been following ever since
I was hyped for this game the moment the first trailer released months ago. I think EA is coming a little early and that may destroy their hype. As the game is very rough but playable atm. Im buying it simply because its the kind of devs and game style I want to support. Long as they keep long term content and late game playability in mind. It could really turn into a great gem.
That's a good part of what Early Access is for. You can't pay for a better randomized spread of hardware setups to test your optimization with.
I am cautiously optimistic. It looks great, the devs are singing sweet music to me. So i'm hoping and praying this is a good as I hope it is
The whole more loot you have in quality or quantity makes so much sense, as an unarmed human is almost zero threat, but a guy carrying a powerful assault rifle, shit ton of ammo, grenades, and a rocket launcher would be a high threat.
That is one system I hope they can nail down right. The idea of 'No, I don't want that big awesome gun' except as loot to sell. Being able to tell a new player "If you grab that rocket launcher, we're pulling out or at least you are. You don't want that kind of hurt, trust me." (Because being a threat to tanks/mechs should be a risky gamble.) The idea of weighing if I want to bring that assault rifle I've tricked out, or stick to the garbage SMG I've had for a while because most soldiers dismiss me as a threat? That is fun. Heck, the idea of having a 'weapon mule' who carries the good combat gear and spends a lot of time hidden, just so we don't get the heat? That sounds awesome. Imagine if a viable option is to dump your gun and run out with nothing into the middle of a firefight to grab something valuable, banking on that lack of a weapon making you unimportant long enough. If they can get that threat recognition system working, and avoid potential ways to cheat it that break the game? Gonna be a world of fun that will.
An example that makes sense: Weapon in your pack? Not as big a deal, especially when a fight is ongoing. Example that doesn't: Stuff gun in pack and immediately drop the heat you got for carrying it into the LoS of a squad.
@@Sorain1 would also be cool to have a hidden storage upgrade for the backpack to store weapons or specific high value gear that wont make your threat lvl rise...like say you find an AT4 and put it in there so the soldiers dont actually "see" it
@@1whitedan yeah but it would have very limited slots, so you have to pick and choose what goes in, and not just stuff every mid-high level weapon/item in there.
"There's only 3 types of scavs: the fast, the smart, and the dead"
Honestly, the themes alone are drawing me in. The gritty, hopeless, dystopian atmosphere looks amazing
I sure hope that item and ammo micromanagement makes up a big part of the way the game is played, similar to Escape from Tarkov.
@@Billy-bc8pk it sure does since added weight means less stuff you loot and every shot you take means your potentional death. You are not "that guy" as they say in the trailer you are just a mere human beeing trying to scavenge what you can to survive in a post apocalyptic enviroment
I love it
I have wanted forever winter since a decade ago, because a lot of the concept art from back then is finally being used to its full potential, by those very same artists.
where can i find more info on this?
wait I've never heard of this. Has it really been around for a whole ass decade?
@@carlosbisa3086not literally but its been planned and worked on for a few years
@@carlosbisa3086 the concept artists running the design team have been, yes. I cant tell for certain which it is, but the art for this game either is, or is reminiscent of the art I geeked out about when I was a kid on deviantart. It is without a doubt 100% the same people though.
"it's co-op so we don't have to deal with omni movement crackhead 14 year olds telling me to go fuck myself on the mic with a sprinkle dash of skibidi rizz, or whatever the hell that is" is such a hard line
I love how devs told us that we won't be that armored Chad but most likely that little sh*t on the background. But let's be honest guys : in a world like this, you and me, we're the bodies hooked to this giant canon.
I also like the premise that its a war being fought by two A.I's and those A.I's are just following their programming since their creators/countries are long since dead and they are just stuck in a stalemate for god knows how long with neither side gaining the upper hand. Its like the Blame! universe but with war setting
Did you just say Coop?! FINALLY!!!
❤
It’s coop your just a scav on an ongoing war
INDIE GOLDEN AGE LETS GOOOO
I feel like this guy would enjoy the Armored Core series
I was about to say. The style looks like a more gory version of Armored Core V/VD
Forever Winter does strike me as 'you are a random infantry scavenger in V/VD's world gone even further wrong'. Even down to the smaller mechs.
@@Sorain1
It really reminded me of the beginning cutscene of For Answer, where the normal humans fit the AC for long travel.
I'm getting more Fucked Up Front Mission from this, but yeah. Get this guy a copy of 6. Or 3.

I was extremely poor when I was younger and only got to play a demo of killzone on my friends ps2 and loved it, this game looks so awesome and look forward to playing it especially since it’s dropping on my birthday!!
That demo was killer!
Space Marine 2 looks fun and all, but this actually looks more like it understands the essence of Warhammer 40k than an official Warhammer game.
6:15 They said that there will be character skins you can buy that will fund the character creation team
The commitment to design this game so it's playable without a always online connection is really the thing that sold me on this
If the future in Terminator was the backdrop for a Nightmare of War in Death Stranding.
So you're telling me that it's possible to create a game where you have the option to play SP/COOP even if/after the game is dead?
Giant Green Flag. They knew exactly what they were doing when they pointed that aspect out.
Yeah i thought that was cool cuz even if game dies people who still enjoy it can play it still. I wish marauders did that. I enjoyed that game but only few hundred players left
The real beauty of it is that you can play a game without cheaters everywhere.
Extraction like? Again? This feels like the Br phase all over again lol. But I’m open it looks solid and fun😂
the fact that it's coop has got me interested
the game is more like helldivers. you go in, complete a primary task and also collect things on the side. you might be able to do a "free mission" type thing like an extraction shooter, but you always have goals to work towards
No, you do not play against players. It is co-op.
You jump into a map, complete a objective while scavenging stuff and then you get out.
Also, it is not a live service. You can play offline.
I think it's more like a thing of the times. I don't have time to play for 3 consecutive hours anymore, I'm an adult. Having a ~45min mission time means you can plan your gaming much better. I hate the extraction concept, but the mission part of it fits better in my life.
Maybe you could just have one large map with a safe zone that you could run back to without "extracting", but that also means the Devs are forced to work with a single map, instead of multiple smaller ones, which is undoubtedly easier.
Idk, im not immediately dismissive. Let's see how it works first.
@@Ozzianman He obviously means it's yet another one of those temporary obsessions that exhausts the industry for a while. It has nothing to do with whether or not the game has PvP or plays like a BR.
Playing this with Pink Floyd - "Welcome to the Machine" on loop.
I’m with you, we need a book series of this and then animated. I love the storyline they’ve created
Man oh man, I really hope this game turns out as good as it looks. I'm also hoping that it will expand to console eventually. I just plain can't afford a gaming computer, but I can just barely slink by on console. It sucks missing out on such amazing-looking titles.
Save up and get Steam Deck... assuming this works on a steam deck.
@@Sekhattidk if it would, we’ll see
I have had this game on my wishlist for awhile and my personal appeal to the game is the world building and the atmosphere.
I love and adore games where it doesn’t feel like you are quite literally the only thing that exists in the world besides the enemies. Games like this where it’s two major factions at constant war and you are just a fly on the wall, witnessing their war and scavenging what’s left of the scraps.
I always love games that fill the world with action like this, like to roleplay that they are other humans or whatever life forms are out there living their own lives and doing their own things even if you aren’t there.
For example Astroneer is just you and you alone, even when you go to other planets but in a game like Star citizen or no man’s sky there are NPC’s just living their lives and minding their business while you explore and it feels like the world is more complete and alive.
I also like the premise that its a war being fought by two A.I's and those A.I's are just following their programming since their creators/countries are long since dead and they are just stuck in a stalemate for god knows how long with neither side gaining the upper hand. Its like the Blame! universe but with war setting

The game is literally lagging in their own gameplay. It'll be a blurry, DLSS-reliant stutter fest like every other game nowadays, unless you have a 4090.
That's weird, because it literally isn't lagging in any other videos covering it. This is genuinely the first time I've seen this thing lagging.

i never interpreted the low fps as lagging due to low performance, more like it's cinematic found-footage from a warzone.

It would be just delightful if they could hire the same legendary devs that graced us with classics like BulletStorm and Vanquish. The writing and dialogue in those games are literary masterpieces, after all.
They did say they will have ways to support the game after the initial purchase with skins. Nothing more, nothing less

What's funny is I think the devs have said those were some of their inspirations too, I could be wrong though.
@@taylorcrawford4387mad god, blame! and 90's mecha anime
I’m holding onto a lot of hope that this game will be one of the greatest. The feedback from the beta-testers has been overwhelmingly positive, and if everything they’ve said is accurate, it certainly has the potential to live up to the hype.
Helldivers 2 has proved there is a market for these types of games, we just need devs who know what they are doing
Love how they're trying to bring but the 90s, but the setting, the atmosphere is on another level! Two factions so focused on killing each other that they threw humanity away and went all in on the fear factor to create such horrific Automatons. As a mainly scav player in Tarkov, I'm super excited for this game. Seems like the developers have some real values.
holy shit he put the game name in the title of the video
Added plus that the devs have confidence in what they're making, they didn't ask for pre-orders only wishlisting and you know the price going in!. seems games can be good again when you have actual adults in charge of developing them.
Definitely something I'm watching
Like Helldivers except incredibly depressing :D
Helldivers Is just depressing for other reasons now
Everything about this game looks amazing.. not only the gameplay loop but even more so the vibe.. the whole aesthetic feels like a grim dark apocalypse that hasn't really been explored before, but then the art style also immediately takes me back to the early 2000's and reminds me of something I'd see waking up for a minute around 3 am and Toonami is on the TV still... This games just giving me a massive hard on for some reason lol
dude I want a tabletop game in this universe.
A co-operative game with some level of automation rules for the two warring sides could be really interesting. Plus, you know, let people play with the big toys in a regular wargame if they like. Edit: also, TTRPG could be amazing for this setting.
im as hyped as i am nervous, i LOVE the world that has been shown to me, now take me there.
It's the Helldivers 2 but devs are actually honest about what game should be in the trailer.
Helldivers 2 was advertised and popularized as coop fun shooter but then devs decided that it should be much more hardcore.
This game tells you everything from the start.
Arrowhead definitely communicate their vision very clearly over and over again. You are a grunt who will die and the enemies are big monsters which wont just get killed easily by a few shots. The balancing is not great yes but they are also trying to avoid some pitfalls which could long term ruin the game. The forever winter will also absolutely face similar issues of people complaining about balance and being discontent with the rate at which new content is delivered.

I wish there will be a chance for these machines to ignore your existance all together, i mean you pose no thread to a tank or a giant robot with your assault rifle,a chance of 3% or less would be a game changer especially when we are so used to AI enemies to be always hostile
That's actually a major mechanic of the game: you aren't considered a threat unless you make yourself one or your presence worries the AI. The less you shoot at enemies and the weaker your armaments, the more likely enemies will just run past you to fight the other faction.
The more you disrupt either side's actions, though, the more they take notice of you, and the more aggressive they'll be on sight.
Supposedly, there's a "threat rating" system in place that even makes it so that if you're getting chased by a squad from one side, and lead them to an enemy squad, they may forget you entirely and start fighting eachother.

There's a little bit of Killzone in there. The hanging corpses on the cannon made me think of Wasteland 3.
I mean, it SOUNDS awesome, but so did Hell Divers with its "We're not owned by PS, we have final say" until it wasnt true. And yes, these devs have the triple A talent, but we've seen that amount to nothing in the past too. Until we see the EA and see long term monetization, I'll hold off on getting too hyped

Looks cool but I hate the big dumb back packs. lol
that's actually the one reason i like it so much lol. and i didn't even like death stranding that much
I'm sorry to tell you this but you're scientifically provably wrong, it rocks.
I mean, the backpacks are a gigantic part of your character's role in the game. You're a scavenger, you need somewhere to stow your loot while you've got both hands on your rifle.
To each their own. I just think it looks silly. Looks like they're going to fall over backwards and get stuck like a turtle. lol..The unnatural physics looks goofy to me.
Anytime anyone refutes the fact that major corporations are effectively destroying the economy with a no holds barred winner take all policy, remember the state of AAA gaming. And remember that its indie devs like these guys that are the real innovators, not corporate suits with a mcmansion.

I'm normally that super cynical gamer that would be really hesitant to get on board with something new and cool looking, but Fun Dog are doing and saying all the right things. I'm head over heels for this studio now, and letting myself get emotionally invested in a game again. Could I get let down hard? Definitely. But so far, they haven't shown any red flags and I'm wildly optimistic that they can do the things they say they will and stick to the principles that they've been preaching.
Just cause a game is "Dead" doesn't mean it's bad. It just means mass audiences didn't consume it for not having enough hype
Peer to peer connection should be adopted for more awesome ideas like this that won't hit mass audiences. Sure there's risk but most people will only play with trusted friends anyway. Also as long as there are servers as well but peer to peer is an option I feel like that's the sweet spot for people who just wanna play
Seeing some devs worked on killzone 2 makes me more excited since that game is still one of the grittiest, feature rich shooters ever (games have only gone backwards since 09 somehow)
This game is even giving me some Lethal Company kind of vibes with the Map and that computer/security camera looking UI stuff. And I'm LOVING IT.
god damn i hope we get some more good ol coop back, been sorely missed this last gen.
They saw the world outside and said, let's make it hellish and give the middle fingers to other devs . Because sink or swim this game will keep trucking

Welcome to the fan club. This game has potetial to really be something else. And I absolutely love how open the studio is with us. Can´t wait.
There was a closed Beta with a bunch of the testers saying mostly good things about the game while mentioning the bugs that were found
I was actually surprised you weren't covering this. It's a dev sick of the coprorate crap that stifles creativity creating their own vision (which seems to be awesome). I've been watching gameplay over the last few weeks and I will be playing this asap.
Started following this game when I say Riloe's video on it. I honestly didn't think it would even go into early access until at least Q2 next year. I'm super pumped about this
I want this to come out on PS5 so bad.
Been tracking this game for the last few months. I'm excited. I want to play this.
It's been an extremely long time since I've been genuinely 'hype' for a game but I really am this time. It just looks so good and the dev team seems extremely good and transparent. The only thing I have any stress about the game is the system requirements, I hope they either change come launch or they can optimize it for "lower tier" cards. I have a 1080 TI but the game for minimum requirements is talking about needing a "NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Super (VRAM 8 GB) / Radeon RX 5700XT (8GB)". So I'm extremely excited for this game, but I suppose we'll have to see if us mere mortals will be able to run it.
The world building screams Ghost in the shell vibes, but what if it was all out war
theres another youtuber, hemade a 50 min doc about forever winter. it got me hooked. ill be buying this one.
Dude I have an Idea to do like video diaries for each character I have, they either live on and continue to write their stories or have their story end suddenly, can't wait to play this game
Only thing I'm cynical about is the "Loot only" concern, and how we may feel a bit dry on content.
Other than that, having no PvP extraction, but rather Co-op Extraction actually makes me feel like I'm working WITH people, and the loot ceiling isnt capped behind dealing with sweaty PvP nutjobs, and concerning cheaters using Aimbot or wallhacks, no, I get to work with people and maybe shit on a co-op hacker sometimes, but IM HAPPY.
[edit] holy shit i was writing this before hitting 2:30 and YOU READ MY MIND BRUV
