- In this video im going to break down how to get started, start cost, expenses and profits. And I’ll make sure to break down how royalties rights work and where to go and buy some
I love passive income, and I haven’t seen a video on how to make money from Royalties without having to make music. Because although I love music, I have zero talent in the art of making a hit record.
How to start a music royalty business
Royalties: are basically you getting paid rent to license your product ( music) to someone else.
Example: I’ll let you use my song for your movie but you have to pay royalties, and since I own the rights then I'll get paid.
Start-Up Cost:
1k to 150k although way up 47million on Michael Jackson bought the Beatles catalogue
Expenses:
Normal taxes on the royalties but that about it, unless you want to do all the work of actually trying to get the songs into tv shows and so on.
Profits
- Uncorrelated to market dynamics
- Yield is usually higher than bonds and stocks
- Consistency: you'll receive constant royalty payments for the life of the song, which can sometimes mean a day or sometimes decades
Real Example: going on today: Kygo is selling the rights to “ at least we stole the show” platinum record and bidding started at 150k for this platinum single.
- It makes an average of 40k per year
- You’re buying the rights for 10 years
- This is a 26% return on investment
- In the first 4 years you’ve made all your money back, by the end you’ve double your investment plus made an extra 100k on top of the double
Tip: Busines is business: you want to check the track record of the royalties, not just take 1 good year as the norm. ( because you never know if they might inflate the price)
How to Buy Royalties:
1. Visit a website ( where kygo is selling is hit single)
A. The Royalty Exchange: They consider themselves the best in the market
Info: with this website you buy: Book, music, tv shows and various other types of royalties
They're are more: Crowdfunding way to invest in an album and make a dividend/royalty.
- Usually, you're buying the life of the content, which is 70 years.
2. Why would an artist sell royalties
- They might need some money to buy a house or a car or some fancy stuff
- And sometimes they only sell the rights for a term Period of many 10 years or 20 years
3. Remember to analyze the Best types of royalties to buy
- Not all songs are created equally
Overall idea: it sounds good, but it's not simple and it's not the same as an investment into Spotify or a company for example, but it can be another stream of income if done correctly.

Would you pay 150k for 40k Passive income annually?
***Another Business " Atm Business"***
link: ruclips.net/video/5G9vsdBuZBA/видео.html
Yes, it will pay itself off along with having residual income for the rest of your life
I would, long term is worth it.
Acorns app giving $250 FREE if you get 4 ppl to sign up before Feb ...👀👀👀👀👀👀 where is the video #NotLoL 😂🚫😂🚫...
150k once, 40k annually...FOR LIFE?
10 years so total would be 400k 😎
I've purchased many music royalties since 2014. It's the best kept secret out there - 100% passive income, buy and collect. Very few know about it or how it works. My oldest songs date back to the late 70s. My most profitable are some mid 90s R&B songs - producing nearly a 50% ROI as streaming has skyrocketed the revenue in the music business. I have learned to buy on the financial data, not name value. It's enjoyable to own famous songs but they are not always the most profitable. Good luck!
Thanks for the info, it’s good to get ideas from experience. And yeah some times trendy music can quickly lose momentum
@@TommyBryson I had another investor reach out to me asking about my experience of investing royalties after I appeared on Dave Ramsey's show and talked about it. He said he bought a package and took a bath on it. I looked up his deal and it was pop songs that were only a couple years old. Fatal mistake. He overpaid. There is definitely know-how in buying them....no different than real estate or stock market.
@@amillionairenextdoor5813 where can you buy royalties on the cheaper side?
Jermaine Wright Very few places. RE is the main place. Songvest possibly.
Good Testimony
This is great info to know Tommy. There are too many people producing music, but if it's not a hit they are thinking that they can't receive residual income from it. Thanks for sharing
Always bro, and definitely the only thing : do you invest in music without it being a hit or after it becomes a hit 😎
Wow very interesting YES interested in all of the above, music, tv etc can't wait to see a video on it. Great video ty
Country and jazz music is king. U will still listen and see people performing 40 yrs later. Let's gooo
Exactly!
Definitely interested in television show royalties. Looking forward to that vid.
I’ll get to work
Looking forward to it myself
Same I like the option of TV shows over music
🔥
I love how you did this one chief!!!
Thanks 😎any ideas just send it over
Man I Just Thought About This Subject And Put It The Search And Found This Video 😎✋🏾 Thank You Baby Boy 👊🏾
😎😎
Hi Tommy, you really make a lot of sense. I will add: I like your voice! Anyway, thanks for sharing on the RUclips, very interesting things to think about.
Nice Video! Rare and nice topic... thanks for doing this research!

Fr
Do you have to market or sell the songs yourself?
Yes great video!!!
how can I sell old beats I made that never went anywhere to a royalty free source?
I just made a royalty exchange account. Have you bought any royalties and if so have any advice.
Yes make a video about tv royals ties and book also
So do u get ur 150k back or is it just to buy those right for only 10yrs cause that's a very high price and risk for hope that you will make return its like lottery buying almost
You can buy book or tv show royalties? Yeah make a video about that please!
You the best Tommy
So did you have to get a bank loan to get started in royalty investing or just saved long term? What's best? And can you even get a loan from a bank for something like that?
That’s what I’m trying to figure out 😩
The life rights are for the life of the person who owns the publishing + 70 years after they’ve passed away. Not just 70 years.
Good point and remember when Disney change some of the rules to keep Mickey Mouse out of the public domain 🙃
You’re awesome 💯
Ayeeee 😎
I wanna see book royalties and TV show royalties can you include both paperback and online book royalties I'm curious to see price difference
Kdp?
business is always business at any time of the day
Can you get paid in royalties as opposed to dividend distributions?
First one here again what can I say? Much love
Ayeee 😎🚨 always on
TommyBryson well I am a musician so as soon as I saw the title I had to click right away!
Ayeee what do you think about selling your rights, good or bad idea ?
TommyBryson depends on the person the rights are going to, I want the music to be in good hands that’s the ultimate goal
Personally, I think that artistic value should hold some importance in whether or not you invest. Why do anything at all if you don't like it? Although, if someone were to make the argument that money is awesome, I couldn't really argue against it, cause it's a big truth.
Also, I like your delivery, man. Earned a sub. :)
Vision board dope 🎯
Invests into yourself💯✅
Ok this is cool!
Lol yup 😎
Serious question. How can you loose money if you just buy it and do nothing?
Yeah can you do one on TV shows and commercials
I want to buy book and tv show royalties.
how would someone make enough money from royalties from drake to pay for the taxes he'd have to request?
Hey how is it only one expense for the taxes if you have to invest 5,000 to 1,000,000 dollars?
Expenses as business expense to receive royalties
TommyBryson yes I know...so the investment to purchase the royalties isn’t considered an expense?
Tommy, I have produced over 60+ instrumentals and I have no idea how / where to lease them. I can’t deal with rappers anymore.
Let me listen
Check out youtube channel sync my music....great info for music makers!!!
Let’s link !
Submit your instrumental to Artlist and Envato
I’m interested on book royalties! 😀
I’ll get work on a video
@@TommyBryson When Playa????
Your completely wrong, the money that comes in from the song is split up by % song writer, features, composer that money the comes in quarterly and is slip up by owners percentages, you also don’t just have the ability to give permission the other parties involved also have to give there permission, you also have to sign up for BMI or ascap and there is also fees involved with that especially when buying music rights
Depends on the negotiation of the deal, take a look at the financial details of the deal I was describing. It’s still active 😎
It matters
I would like to learn how to purchase tv royalties.
MUSIC IS US...YOUR WAY #1 BUSINESS #1 YOUR WAY....SONG I HEAR YOUR THE WORDS...
Dope info
Thanks
Yo tee shirt that vision board, please?
Where can I invest in royalties like stock?
Online. Royalties Exchange
Interesting business model, I’m sure drakes music ridiculously expensive.
Imagine the Beatles catalogue went for 47m 😎
zip zipp Not only a boss move, but a business move that would make him a billionaire. Michael Jackson owned 50% of Sony/ATV
they are. can't even try buying them yet. & Jay Z's and old school rock
Just saw one of drakes songs sell for 9,000.
Jermaine Wright haha wayyyyyyyyyy more than that
Do you have a video about loans/ recommandations /apps ect.
Personal loans or getting into a loan business ?
@@TommyBryson personal loans. I was curious about money lion but than i seen you did a video on that haha. But, yeah small 5k-10k and like would i need collateral. Is there an app like money lion I should go through.
I do peer loans. U can contact me if that’s what u meant.
How you get started
Quick question , Can you resell the royalties you bought ?
TJoe Yes, it’s called secondary market. You can sell and buy from it too. That is where you will find cheaper prices.
Tv and cartoons next and movies if you can bro
I’ll get to work
@@TommyBryson 👍💯
Wait you can invest in cartoons? And movie's? Well buy them? Please explain.
Video coming soon 😎
Are there loans for this type of investment???
Yup but never take out a loan for an investment. Unless it a business. Never take a loan out just to reinvest without a return strategy
I want to do this
To start small, it’s a little more hustle and it’s definitely possible 😎
Ayeeee
Ayeee let’s gooooo 😎
I was first right bro??? 😅
Day 1 fan bro I’ll always support you
Thanks bro and big facts 😎appreciate it
got anything on ride shares...
Shares of royalties or stocks ?
i dont like banks but im investing in sofi. it doesnt matter if you like it
What do you mean ?
@@TommyBryson You asked in the video "would you invest in music even you didnt like it. comment down below" My answer to that is yes. And my example is Im invested in the bank SOFI even though banks aren't particularly exciting to me.
#preefar 2020
Isn’t telling everyone this bad!? Bc now it’s gonna get over saturated with competition
Thinking about this as i sit here and watch other videos on this this is not realistic at least not your normal individual.
2:45 you just convinced me not to invest 😅
No taxes wow!!!!
Interesting video but your exclamation of royalties is very very vague
Any questions ?
You can come invest in music????
What do you think about selling your rights ?
Who’s going to sell me the rights to the music someone that’s in the desperate position that needs money who is super talented
Or someone that has a large portfolio and doesn’t mind selling a few
I make music can y’all check it out I mix and master my own music using my phone🤷🏾♂️
Ayeee that’s awesome 😎
No I don’t have to like the song I know what other people like
🤘🌏🌎🌍
i love your ant farm
Thanks 🙏, unfortunately it died. I may start another one, but once I gain more knowledge of taking care of them
During the winter they went dormant and I forget what happened after that
@@TommyBryson oh no! im sorry about that. Thats interesting though. I have a pet snail that came in the house to get warm from the winter. I have a lil habitat for him now.
Came here for an investor😭😂
Taxed on paycheck taxed on passive income when tf don't I get taxed oh ya dead or a child
What you're talking about here is being a music publisher
X12😂😂
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.
Why do you talk so fast. I can barley understand you bro. And add more pictures.
none of today's music is worth it, you'll be lucky if it last long enough to break even. gotta go ole school for the real value!
