Had a GW bike in the early 90's - columbus, campag chorus thru - quality machine in gios mettalic blue from brand new. regret ever getting rid. What a guy Graham is.
I confess I own a mountain bike with road tires on it, but don’t ride bikes. I love looking at these gorgeous bikes, that are engineered masterpieces.❤ I understand why people collect them, they’re beautiful.
Andy, these are oral histories with Graham. He's telling us his part in the history of British cycling. Might want to preserve them at an archive or museum. But we still need to see more of his bikes. Terrific.
I've watched all the Graham Weigh videos great content. I worked in a small bike shop in Belfast in the 80's that Graham supplied, I had vitus road and lo Pro, mavic ssc groupsets, delta brakes, Alan frames, watching this content brings it all back. I met Graham once and from memory he seemed to be wearing a fur coat (alf engers style?)
I would really like to see a video where Graham demonstrates the official factory technique for replacing a damaged lug on a Vitus alloy frame. I know in one of your videos with him where he was discussing the Vitus frames that he mentioned that he had actually been trained on how to do this at the Vitus factory. He is probably one of the few people in the world now who actually knows how to do this operation.
I am proud to report that that I have now officially joined the club. Someone in my area was selling an all original Gitane bike in my size! Surprised you haven't featured a Gitane bike yet! Either way, I might even turn this into a video! Looking forward riding it!
I have a Chesini Innovation, but mine doesn't have the engraved head tube. I believe that mine is a rare model, perhaps even a prototype or a professional bike (it has a number holder braze-on on the top tube). They are stunning frames, and as the name suggests, quite innovative with the sloping top tube. Great video, and GW needs to write a book to keep all of his anecdotes and knowledge for future generations.
Wow. Sounds a nice bike, yes I’ve got to agree with the book idea he certainly knows his stuff and is a wealth of knowledge 👍 thanks for watching and the support greatly appreciate it
When I was a young pup just starting out in cycling I had a standard off the shelf steel framed Giant Peloton . I used to buy Cycling weekly every week and would dream about buying some custom built exotica from Graham Weigh!!
Another top video, really enjoyed the look at the bikes and listening to some of the history of them is always good, thanks for sharing. Cheers from Australia
You guys will be the reason that I will come to England for the first time as a tourist (I was twice for courses when I was working) I am Swiss and was more in France and Italy I have about 30 road bikes the top are Casati and Colnago and a Carrera - I have also two Masi (Milan) but they were in my Racing times the work corses and Need Dome refreshing
I fitted some AX Dura Ace brakes to my more modern tt bike (Trek Equinox) just because I thought they looked cool.... modified them, made a 1.2mm (from memory 🤪) stainless steel shim that stuck out the brake a bit, put a bend in it, sanded a chamfer on the back of modern cartridge pads and glued them to the shim.......... I'm not sure if the pull ratio on tt brake lever are right for them but they stopped well and most of all, looked cool😎
😂 looks over functionality…I’m with you all the way 👍 I’m a sucker for my deltas….funny. Sounds an interesting modification. Thanks for sharing and tuning in, much appreciated
Re: Dynatech Frame - I've seen some Dynatechs that had an anodized patterned finish. I wonder if they simply tried to paint one of those in the the Super-U livery?
Totally understandable why you wouldn't ride the rare, valuable and fancy stuff and that's why I say to buy mid level bikes and groupsets. Not rare, not precious, don't need to be original, can have modern parts fitted without upsetting the purists and can be used almost daily 👍...would love a replica of the TVT low pro btw😎
Recycle ♻️ enjoy use better for all 🌍 I’m with you. Preserving and restoring old things in general is such a rewarding thing to do. Thanks for watching and the support it’s much appreciated
i have to say i dont like collectors they make it difficult for others to buy and price is over priced i dont see the logic collecting bikes your not using i got 2 bikes i used both but there hub gears i need a fast bike but turning 55 this year maybe ill carry on with what i got
To be honest I know have five or six bikes, however I am trying to simplify my life and want for less. It’s a state of mind that is in few but I’m sure with the present climate 🌍 will only start to increase🤞 thanks for tuning in and watching much appreciated
@@BikeItUK I had hernia 2014 it's never been that good must be careful e bikes not interested there too heavy don't see the logic I got a 50s mifa with rod brakes it brakes on tyres I got rid of it put cable brakes and a 3 spd gear hub I would like to put rod brake back with brakes on rim I also my comuter bike 7 spd hub gear I want a racing bike with straight handle bars with luggage rack or drop handle bars but fillet brazed lugs I think 3 or 4 bike be enough
Graham is a mystery. He sitting their wearing a Molteni jersey from the days of Eddie Merkx, he has a shop full of vintage bikes that only now at 75 years old he is thinking of selling but yets he insists on riding these carbon, disc brake, electronic rubbish, and compares it to electric windows on his car to winding down a manual car window. Has he ever tried to repair electronic electric car windows compared to manual ones? Many people are now saying on line that the technology has gone to far, its a racket, a scam, bikes are overly complicated and costing people hundreds in repairs. Fine for him to waffle on, he's got hundred's to choose from with a warehouse full of parts.
He certainly is a fascinating guy and yes he’s got a sense of mystery about him. He’s lucky and worked hard to be in a fortunate position to ride new and have the experience and in depth knowledge of old. I personally have had a few 11 speed chains now snap on me so I hear you. I completely agree certain things can only be taken so far and the UCI also control and restrict development in certain areas of the bicycle which is a shade and that has directed the industry on certain paths. Thanks for watching happy peddling 👍
@@BikeItUK Oh Scared of Jesus buddy don't say that. My steel Tomassini is my pride and joy. I put 11speed Shimano 105 on it and you have to be careful with these chains. Removing rivets to shorten or lengthen the chain is tricky. You must i repeat must everytime use a new Shimano rivet, you cannot re-use the old rivet. Years ago 6,7,8 rivets were reusable because the chains were really strong.
I will be re-watching this a few times, good lord, heaven...I would loooove to see his vintage MTBs, I can't imagine!
Thanks for watching and your support much appreciated
A series needs to be done with Graham he is a living legend. A fantastic contribution to world cycling.👍
Definitely 👍 I’ll have to get myself back down there

@@BikeItUK BTW, I have a Vitus 979 with a cracked seat tube lug if he needs one to operate on.
Excellent, I could listen to Graham all day, his knowledge is superb. Cheers Andy.

Another fascinating selection of bikes. Fondriest bikes still popular here down under and l ride a Moser mka 900 from around 2010.
I’m still to get my hands on both of them to feature as restorations. Thanks for watching and your support all the best
We’ve learned a lot from your talks! Thank you!
Our pleasure 👍
Great stuff as always , Andy. Greetings from Mexico !
Many thanks! Thanks for the long distance support. Much love my friend 👍
If I were buying one of Grahams bikes it'd be the red colnago super profil with the gold c record groupo, just gorgeous!

Old is Gold. Vintage bikes are works of art. Today's bikes are "AI" influenced, There's nothing like the work of a TRUE CRAFTSMAN
Completely agree
That first bike has a dirt and grime, the cogs look like Shimano Hyperglide, not era correct...I say this as praise, not criticism...it gets used!
Thanks no problem thanks for your support all the best
